  1. I try to do things right. I only have one hide so far, and I got permission from the town to place it. I recently asked another Township here in Hunterdon County New Jersey for permission to place a HANDICAPPED ACCESSABLE cache at a local park. This park has TONS of parking and wide open spaces. The "Recreation Supervisor" says: Scott, At this time this is not a program or project that we would like to start at Bundt Park. Bundt Park is used heavily by township residents for a variety of sports events and programs, it would concern me a great deal to have people “wandering” around the parking lot looking for a Geocacher during one of our many events. Thank You, Tom I do a lot of work for and with the Handicapped and this really burns me up!!
  2. I always carry and use a Fisher Space Pen. The log can be wet, soaked, covered with grease or on fire and that puppy will write. And there's always the occasional time you find yourself in a space vacuum...
  3. Wear orange period. Why take chances? Last year I entered some County property looking for a cache. At the trailhead on an orange poster were marked the dates when hunting was allowed on County property. It was 4 days past the last day. Cool, right? I was looking for a good 45 minutes for this hide, which turned out to be buried....when a shotgun hunter appeared behind me. Startled me pretty good. He asked what I was doing and I explained.....I asked what HE was doing since I had read the sign....and he explained he was hunting the adjoining property. He was just SHOOTING from this side. Whatever dude.....you got the gun. This fellow assures me he will not shoot in my direction and sets off up the hill. I'm still looking for the cache and he fires about 40 yards north of me......that's it.....I'm outta here. Anywho........ I'm at the local sandwich shop for lunch a few days later and see a guy who looks familiar. Yep, it was him alright. In his COUNTY RANGER UNIFORM. Moral: You never know who's out there, don't take chances. You'll live to cache another day.
  4. LOL! You may not want to go too far into "What to pack". You could scare them away forever!! You'll be getting questions like "Now why do I need extendable mirrors and magnets again?"" "Bear WHAT?"
  5. Yeah, I get embarrased too when I can't find one but I don't mind poking fun at myself so I try to post an interesting log and pat the back of the hider.... Another good tip is to double check your coordinates! I had a great hike on Saturday at GCQ6XY. A much longer hike than needed!
  6. Log your DNF's! I also read a log today from a first time finder that they left a penknife in the cache. Trade etiquette as explained above is very important. Edit: And another thing I would touch on would be stealth. People get excited. I've had a few first timers out with me (my sister being the loudest) who screamed "I FOUND IT!!!" raising the curiosity of every nearby person in the park. Especially on evil muggle micros.....sometimes you should leave them alone and return another day.
  7. Working in the field of Land Surveying these terms are used all the time. "Dead nuts" simply means right on. "Balls" stands for zero zero.....or 00 And there's your visual.
  8. You have waders strapped to your mountain bike. And when you spell mountain bike, you almost do it with numerals...
  9. This is the first time I've been on this forum, and I'm not sure if asking this is within the guidelines.....but.. There is a new cache here in Jersey and I've never seen clues like this. What do you think of GCTT43?
