  1. i bought a pn-40 and loved it! Right until I was burning through a brand new set of duracells in 45 minutes. I liked it so much more than my garmin but the battery life ruined it for me. I returned it after 1 outing becasue of the battery issue. if the pn-60 fixes the battery issues i would buy one in a heartbeat! the maps are phenominal compared to the garmin topo. just my .02
  2. i had a pn-40 for a week. I loved it and it was way better than the 60csx that i have but the battery life killed me. I was out riding dirt bikes for a week and regular duracells lasted 45 minutes in the device.. now if you spend money on lithium enigizers i was getting 3-4 hours of run time. obvioulsy everyone is going to say rechargables but that still does not negate the fact you will have to carry a lot of batteries around with you if you dont have a power source. Bummer. the unit is one awesome little devie but carrying aroung 5 times more batteries for the features isnt worth it. I am thinking about getting a pn-20 though as i hear the battery life is much better. little slower but still ahs the same mapping systems availalbe and they are only 130 on walmart.com. like abouce said the caching notes are awesome and blow away the 60csx. so does the maps. just battery is the only thing i did not like. it was a love hate thing.
  3. we really need a mod to close this thread. i have been reading pages of people blasting each other. i bought both a 60csx and a pn-40 yesterday and today and i will try them both out to see which i prefer. i like the maps on the pn-40 right out of the box better than the 1:100k garmin topo. i like the garmin screen better. I had serious troubles with the pn-40 right out of the box and didn't on the garmin but I am going to give them both a fair run. its funny how off track this went when he originally was talking about a 60csx vs pn-40. cant people just say yeah i like it and move on or no i dont like it. so many of you have so many posts that you all forgot this is about having a good time. and yes, i could have spell checked my post but i dont care I started reading this thread for an open review and not a smash fest. how sad.
  4. seems to be working alright today. bought some lithium batteries and for some strange reason it is working well... but iwas so frustrated i went to rei and bought a 60csx as well to compare alongside each other. one of them will be going back... we will see... I had a 60csx before so i know it is nice

  6. pulled batts 3 times now it is updating firmware cross my fingers..
  7. cool. i put the exe on the card but it didnt upgrade when i reset it... all i saw on the forum was 2.5 i;ll look closer thanks I'm re-reading the forum post where the upgrade was posted, and the HOWTO included in the download, and now I'm not seeing where you can put it on the SD card. I thought for sure that I'd seen you could do that though. yeah i got it on the card now.. now dang thing wont power up... batteries are good. the power is flaky ... I hope the firmware fixes these problems or i have to take it back!
  8. On the desktop, did you plug into a USB port on the front of the case, or the back (preferred)? on the back. two laptops and my desktop now same deal. i cant upgrade the firmware from 2.2 either without it being connected to pc correct? No, if you have a standalone SD card reader, you can put the firmware on the card, put the card in the unit, and next time you power it up it'll upgrade. Instructions are included with the firmware update. If you're updating, go all the way to 2.5b3. cool. i put the exe on the card but it didnt upgrade when i reset it... l got the 2.5 3. thanks

  20. how do you transfer waypoints using gsak?? I am set to usb but when i go to transfer it just stays at 0%. any help would be appreciated.. first time using this program.
  21. it seems like it gives a charge but the power drops off quikly after that. which is to bad because this would be an excellent feature. It was a showing a charge on the batteries after you unplug. After testing many times I think it isn't something that is working like i had originally thought. could have been the one of my favorite features.... I already use to many batteries on my digital camera!
