  1. Hi,

I thought this might interest a few of you, but you'd need to hop over to a different thread.

If you see the thread at:

Grand Experiment - Geocoins in the Wild

Several of us are required to send 3 geocoins for someone to put into the wild. We've run out of people to continue the experiment, and since I don't see anyone there interested in tossing a few geocoins into caches in South Africa I thought I would post here to see if anyone wanted hop into that thread and possibly offer to help distribute coins into the "wild".

If you are interested in placing these geocoins, please check out the thread!

    Thanks!

    ~Rose

  2. Hi,

I'm sorry I don't speak Spanish or Portugese, but I'm hoping someone here will speak English. (I'm running this through babelfish after writing to translate to spanish).

If you see the thread at:

Grand Experiment - Geocoins in the Wild

I am required to send 3 geocoins for someone to put into the wild. Since that thread has had no takers from Central or South America, I thought I would post here and offer 3 activated geocoins to go into caches in this area.

If you are interested in placing these geocoins, please let me know!

    Thanks!

    Hi!

Estoy apesadumbrado no hablo español, sino que estoy esperando que alguien aquí hablará inglés. (estoy funcionando esto a través de babelfish después de escribir a traducir al español).

Si usted ve el hilo de rosca en:

Grand Experiment - Geocoins in the Wild

    ¡Grazias!

  4. Ok I'm game.

I have the following to offer (one each) to those that need them:

    Not Another Micro! (2005)

    Kentucky Geocoin (2005)

    Opticsboy (2005)

And I'm offering the following 3 to be placed in caches:

    Alabama

    North Carolina

Christmas 2005 ornament coin (Winter Wonderland)

*Note that I'm activating all 3 of the above, and I hope to have them go international. Since I haven't seen anyone saying theirs are going to South/Central America, how about it - GEOCACHERS headed to/in South/Central America - you want some coins to put in Caches?!?

K two of the below coins are spoken for by:

    UOTrackers

    Zsandman

So, I still have 1 available.

I'm still looking for someone in or going to central/south America willing to distribute coins into caches. If you can do this, please let me know. (I may be willing to toss in an extra coin for you to keep...)

For those of you still seeking clarification on how this works. The best explanation is this:

You get: 1 coin from one of us giving them away. (one you don't have already in your collection.)

    You distribute:

    3 coins to caches

3 coins to others who do the same thing.

So, you will need to aquire 6 other coins on your own to distribute if you haven't already. (We don't care what they are, but we want to help get the coins in the caches).

    Kind Regards,

    ~Rose

  6. Too funny - where's the post for Women who cache alone?!?

I mean I take my dog with me most of the time, but for Urban caches, it's a no go - he's a husky and there's no way I can watch him AND find a cache stealthly.

I think it's funny because most women I know all say Oh what happens if you find a strange guy.. and that it's generally not accepted as a female to go out to places by yourself (as in hiking/etc) but oh well. Take your cell, your gps and a dog - most people don't look at ya twice.

  7. and I'm soo Excited and happy! :(

It looks like I'll be moving to Berlin area sometime in February/March. So, any geocachers in Berlin area want to stand up & be counted/introduce yourselves?!? I'll post more details as I get them, but it would sure be nice to get to know a few more people in the area before I get there.

Looking forward to the move and the change (I'm not the best at German - I had a year in college about 10 years ago) but hey, at least I'm willing to try, right!?!

    Gute Nacht!

  8. Hi Jeremy!

First off, I think that your proposal is a great idea.

I'd also like to add a couple suggestions while we're on the topic of travel bugs.

In the case of an event (I was recently the host of an event), as a responsible event owner, I try to take down a list of the travel bug numbers *BEFORE* they get traded off. Then, as people pick them up, I try to mark down who took them where so that no travel bugs get lost/left in the event cache.

    The problem is two fold:

    a) It is very time consuming taking time away from the event.

b ) Sometimes the bugs are grabbed/traded before I can get the number and/or who brought/took them. If in this case I happen to miss one and it suddenly gets "lost" I feel, at least as the event owner, that I'm partially responsible.

My suggestion would be that somehow the event owner be able to get a list of the travel bug names/numbers in advance (only what has been dropped in the event cache) to help save time. I know this won't completely solve the problem, but if I have 20 on the list, and 5 more get brought, 5 is alot easier to write down individually and then keep track of than trying to catch all 25.

*NOTE* that I only log the ones I move from the event, but I still like to know what went where in case the bug owner eventually comes back to me asking what happened to the bug.

    Thanks!

    ~Rose

  9. Hi,

My name is phoenix-rose and I'm located in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm trying to do a reversible cache before 2006 and am wondering if you are interested in helping me out. The name of the cache is Where's In a Name? and it is GC3153.

The first 6 letters of my name convert to 74* 63.6_ _ (N, S, E, W) You have to be able to use that coordinate as either your latitude or longitude. I'd let that be your choice and the other can be wherever you choose.

If you are interested you will also be able to log this cache as a find. To do this you have to send me a picture of the location and your GPS with the coordinates showing on it.

Send me an email at via the contact links above if you are interested in helping me with this. (Note I will be happy to send you a sig item in exchange for the assistance!)

    Thanks,

    phoenix-rose

PS. So that you are aware I am sending an email like this to a handful of geocachers in the area because this cache is soon going to be disabled and I'd really like the opportunity to log it. The first geocacher who completes the task will get the credit.

If anyone can help me out that would be awesome. I believe that it is the longitude that goes through India, Pakistan, Colombia and Eastern North America. And latitude falls somewhere in the ocean above Antartica or along the Northern Canadian border. I'm sure there are more places than I've listed, but if you can help, I'd really appreciate it!

According to the list, as best as I can figure the lines run through:

    Pakistan - Lahore 31° 35' N 74° 20' E

(3 caches in all of Pakistan!)

    Colombia -

    Baranquilla 10° 59' N 74° 48' W

    Bogota 4° 36' N 74° 5' W

(there are ONLY 2 caches in Colombia!)

Or, if I go with someplace not so exotic:

    NEW JERSEY

    Atlantic City CO 39° 23' N 74° 26' W

    Long Branch 40° 19' N 74° 1' W

    Newark AP 40° 42' N 74° 10' W

    New Brunswick 40° 29' N 74° 26' W

    Paterson 40° 54' N 74° 9' W

    Trenton Co 40° 13' N 74° 46' W

    NEW YORK

    Gloversville 43° 2' N 74° 21' W

    Kingston 41° 56' N 74° 0' W

    Massena AP 44° 56' N 74° 51' W

    Newburgh, Stewart AFB 41° 30' N 74° 6' W

    Thanks again!

  10. I have to say that I'm having a blast doing the coin quest, and that there's nothing like being addicted to geocaching...

ERM... You think there's help for me? I was out at 11 pm - 1 AM yesterday morning just to get a FTF cache. Note that I took a spotlight, my GPS, and my car.. then proceeded to be hunting in an industrial park (open fields near there) right under the landing area of the International Airport in the dark.. Humm.. Gee... COULD I BE ANY MORE SUSPICIOUS?!?

Note that I left the dog at home thinking If he was with me, he would draw attention... (Ya right.. like me with a spotlight wasn't doing enough of that myself!?!)

 Oh the things we do for a geocache!

  12. Would love to trade sigs with any of y'all.

I don't have pictures of mine yet, but I'd trade the nice hand sculpted rose sig coin made from polymer clay (they're about the size of a half dollar). If you're interested, drop me a line.

    ~Rose

  13. Nyet.

I would trade metal for metal.

Otherwise, a poker chip for my personal sig item (hand sculpted from polymer clay) is usually what I trade. I have two kinds of sig items. Ones that just get tossed in all caches I find, and ones which are really detailed that I mail out for trades and/or leave for first to finds and/or event trades and/or for really great caches. The others are smaller and very simple to make and are a little smaller than a poker chip.

    That being said...

I wouldn't trade a coin for a poker chip. If I found one in a cache I would add to my collection unless it was a TB. Here in the Uk a lot of us had geotags made of acryllic and in different shapes and colours I might trade one of these for a poker chip as they are also a personal sig item. Any takers for trades?

    Lynn

Lynn (Team Maddie ) Email me directly, and I'd love to work out a sig item trade!

Not to ruffle any feathers, but...

There's some mis-information on this auction:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8718588173

There were 500 Texas autumn coins made, *not* 300. Buyer beware

Also, there's still a bunch of the 2005 Texas coins available so there's no need to buy them on ebay. { http://tinyurl.com/cbzbl

Save yourself some $ and buy directly from us:

    http://www.texasgeocaching.com/coins/buy/Buy.asp

Just Fyi, I corrected my listing - Last Info I had was that there was only 300 when I pre-ordered, hense why I put it up that way. eBay won't let me change the title since there are bids, but I did email all the bidders on it telling them that I would be happy to cancel their bids if the info made a difference. (No takers.)

Finally, for those asking - I have nothing to hide. Personally, I recommend going thru the selling website and buying what is available for less money when possible. Thing is that not all the groups out there making coins are willing to ship worldwide, and as much as we don't want to admit it, GC.com isn't the only website for people playing the game.

As a result, if people are wanting to go to eBay (instead of doing their homework and/or finding the coins that are out there) to buy the extras I have available (and thusly can re-feed and fund my coin addiction) Well.. who am I to complain!

    Happy Caching!

    ~Rose

  15. Hi!

Ok Here's my take. Yes, I want a second in the series. No, I don't care which breed is on it.

I personally go everywhere with my dog, and he's most likely one of the best companions in my life - Geocaching or not. I got him from Pet Samaritan (a no kill animal shelter) which is a part of Best Friends (they did alot of animal rescues in the disaster areas).

I know I would be willing to buy more of this coin (and thusly maybe you'll consider raising the # in the edition) if you could figure out a way to maybe have the price be a couple bucks higher and part of it go to support one of the many animal shelters out there. After all, what are we as geocacher hobbyists with our dogs if we can't have a home for all the others out there?

Just my thoughts from the edge.

  16. Hi Guys -

When refunding via paypal - here's a couple things to note. (I'm giving away some info here since I work for/buy/sell alot on eBay here and have been caught in this conundrum - despite knowing how this works - and don't want to see y'all get in trouble with paypal or flagged by the cc companies for possible fraud)

    a) If, as in the example someone paid twice for the coin issue in 2 seperate transactions (see Damenace's post) of each $20 (equaling $40 sent)

You can go to paypal and click on one of the payments transaction record and at the bottom as a seller, there is a little link that says "refund". This will refund the transaction to the purchaser and ALL paypal fees to the seller so you're not charged ANY paypal fees for that transaction.

Technically, if paypal caught you in this case keeping their fees and manually issuing a refund, they could call it fraud and freeze up the account. (not turning you in - I don't care how you do it - just letting y'all know)

B ) However - if someone paid for say 3 coin issues in 1 transaction (as in they did a quantity of 3) - you will need to refund a portion of the payment individually.

So, say they sent 1 payment of $30 for 3 coins. In this case, you'd need to send them back a payment of $10 minus the paypal fees. Note, however, that when you do this you are (in paypal's eyes) sending that person a "payment" of $10, and thereby, person buying the coin is getting "hit" twice - once for the fees you're taking out thereby $10 becomes 9.50 or whatever, and once for paypal's fees AGAIN. This means they only get $9 back. In addition, the credit card companies and paypal in their user agreement say that as a seller can't charge a buyer your full paypal fees when offering a refund- this is simply a fee incurred by the seller for opportunity of use. (From what I understand you can do a "portion" though so you'd take the pp fees divide by 3 and then take out only 1 of the fees)

I don't necessarily like how this is set up, but wherever possible - just to save you possible future headache, I'd hope you would at least try "a" above where possible. No, I'm not gonna say anything to anyone, but having had my account froze for a while and also having seen people whom are unable to get their paypal accounts to work because the CREDIT CARD COMPANIES won't allow the payment acceptor to use Paypal (basically blackballing the account), I want to make sure you are informed.

Have a great one (regardless of what y'all choose to do)~

    Rose

    Ed to clarify.
