  1. I just had my this years subscription deducted several months ago from my credit card account, and yesterday I tried to access a"subscription only" cache. I was denied access! I E-mailed the site, but so far no answer. This cache is a new one near me, but the site won't let me have access. Bummer Anyone else having a similar problem? "The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards"
  2. I was interested because, a friend and I got different coords on a cache he was placing. I wondered if, one of us was right, how many feet from being correct, was the other reading, if it was like .009 different. I will use 5 or 6 ft as my figure from now on, per .001. That's close enough to figure the error in feet, I think. So at that rate, a difference of .009 would be about 50 feet of difference. 3. What is the smallest unit of measure in feet for a change of one unit on coords of a waypoint. example: .001 vs .002 ?? I think it is 6 feet...right or wrong? "The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards"

  5. I own a GPS-V and I love it! The only problem I have is with their Metroguide U.S.A. software. From time to time, the autorouting will attempt to put me on an Interstate Hwy at a point that doesn't have any entrance or exit ramps! This often time results in a lot of lost time and unnecessary miles driven. As expensive as the software is, I would expect it to be a little better than it seems to be. 7. I think you are right. As I understand it, a passive antenna is a "wire" antenna. An active one has, electronics and draws current to operate. It also has increased gain. That Picture looks like my Mighty Mouse, when I had the back off, and it is an amplified ant. 8. We got it loaded! Thats what counts! "The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards"
  9. I finally remembered!!! If you leave any older ver. anywhere on your HD for some reason "updater" will try to load it first, instead of the latest Ver. you are trying to load. Either save it to a cd or something, or move it to the recycle bin if you want to keep old versions. "The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards"
  10. Downloaded it ok and now have a desktop icon. Trouble is when I run updater it reports that I currently have a newer ver. in the gvs (205) than the ver. I am trying to load. I had this problem last time but forgot what I did to fix it. Any idears? "The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards"
  11. What you are noticing is a normal. All GPS's do it. If your GPS will "average" you might try letting it do an average for about 30+ min. Another method is to make a waypoint at the cache site and then walk back and see if it takes you to a close spot near the cache. Try several waypionts until you find the one that works best. Close is about as good as it gets! You will never find the perfect one. Get someone within 50 feet and he will probably find your cache. 13. Go with the GPS-V! You will not be disappointed. "The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards"

  15. I bought one when they first came out and paid under $400.00 for it. Now the price is down to about $360.00. That's a great deal! I love mine, because I can load the waypoint in and tell it to go! It takes me as close as possible on the roads, then I switch to "off road" and close in for the find. Sure saves trying to figure out routes to the cache and printing maps to take. You just drive and it directs you. Sometimes it makes a error, but not anything major. You will however, enjoy it better if you go ahead and buy Metroguide USA and load maps for the area you plan to go. City Select is only "select" cities, and a lot of caches are not in the cities they give you. Metroguide has almost all highways, streets, roads, and even some dirt roads and park roads, and it's no unlock codes or anything to fool with. I really enjoy my GPS-V a lot more with Metroguide maps loaded in it. It also can accept and external ant., which is good if its inside a car, where it can't get good signals. If it had replaceable memory cards it would be the perfect handheld! (no... 19. Thanks for the info. I am new to this and still learning. I just noticed the icon, now that you mention it. [This message was edited by megatech on May 06, 2002 at 06:57 PM.]
  20. That's exactly Right. You can always go back and edit or delete things on a cache post. Don't think the same applies to a post on the forum however. [This message was edited by megatech on May 06, 2002 at 06:51 PM.]
  21. I just downloaded 2.02. The way it (updater) works, I wonder if I should send 2.03 to the recycle bin for a while during the upload, so updater will only have 2.02 to choose from? Do you think going back to 2.02 is the right thing or waiting for EasyGPS to fix their problem so it will work with 2.03? Garmin may not be at fault here. They don't write software with every other companys stuff in mine. The GPS V may be great with 2.03. Thanks for 2.02! Anyone...anyone..?????
  22. Just updated firmware on my GPS V to 2.03. Same problem with Easy GPS! In the future I will save my old update releases just because of stuff like this!
  23. The spring around here (SC) is when I start to notice ticks. I started geocaching several months ago and found none until recently. I came home the other day and found 7 deer ticks on me. The next morning,I found one more! This is after an almost inch by inch check, and a very thorough scrub down. Deer ticks, by the way, are the ones you don't want to find! They can carry Lyme Disease. They are small,orange/brown with a black spot near the head, and about flea size. Wood ticks are unlikely to cause problems. They are larger with a white head. Now I spray before I dress with "Deep Woods Off" and spray again after I dress. I have not seen a tick again! It works for me! Enjoy the hunt!
