  1. Oh my lord, just read the posts over on CourtTV. You have got to be kidding me! I'm a Federal Law Enforcment Officer BTW.
  2. Not being argumentative, but I truly don't understand (yet, that's why I'm seeking input) the problem with not registering or logging online. I don't log my finds as finds for other reasons, but I do leave a note and sign the log book. At first I didn't log online, but after reading some posts on the subject I decided to log and try and list what I took and left etc. as a courtesy to the placer and other cachers. What makes those you described above 'truly despicable'?
  3. It's not right, that being said, isn't it surprising that more caches aren't messed with? For the most part people on these forums are civilized and well... nice. But there are quite a few long timers with big numbers (maybe that is the problem) who are antagonistic, rude, condescending etc etc. Someone comes with an issue, a gripe, or even just a comment and they get bombarded with 'get over it' 'stop whining' and other here's why you're an idiot rants. Sometimes it seems caches get 'muggled' but it seems this case is probably someone who got pissed off after being ridiculed, ot by the cache owner but possibly by others in the geocaching community. This is of course just my humble opinion.
  4. I don't even know what you are talking about with the no tagbacks and shirt shields. Thanks tho, this has been informative. And no need to 'boohoo' it'll be alright.
  5. You'll pass? Whatever, most discussion is hypothetical. I don't own the fictional coffee shop nor does anyone I know, why not discuss it? You're the one who joined the conversation and now you'll 'pass' ....weak. And Mopar, Most here can agree that this topic has many grey areas, hence the 'debate' or discussion.
  6. What would I be trying to gain? It is a hypothetical question based on this topic. He responded to this topic and he would be the one to answer. LOL, I only ask that he respond in writing in blood and duplicate in stone. Sorry but that was just silly.
  7. Seems reasonable, I think I would enjoy something like that, I guess if it contained coupons for 'discounted' or 'buy a sandwich get a coke' coupons, as a cacher, I might be turned off, thinking its sole purpose was to drum up business vice support/be a part of geocaching. It definitely is not a black and white issue and I'm glad it isn't handled as such.
  8. Interesting about the interaction part.... Yes inside the store, I think maybe it would be hidden behind a display, in a wooden indian... something like that. Come to think of it, it need not require interaction with the staff at all, something like 'open wooden indian's head to find cache' or 'behind the large sugar jar in container labled *something witty*'
  9. When did we start talking about being required to make a purchase or advertising? The caches referenced specifically did not require purchase. The one in particular that I questioned (the pub in the historic building) didn't even mention the name (not that I recall, but some of the others did).
  10. MOPAR, Sorry you lost me, nobody owns geocaching, geocaching.com yes. You can try and try but I'm not going to see your way of thinking on that. I respect your right to your own opinon and hope you respect mine.
  11. Yes, I obviously thought it might be touchy .....I said more touchy..... Support what? That I think it's hypocritical to ban commercial caches outright? I think it is, that is my opinion. It doesn't appear that that is going on. I'm not entirely sure what looking like nascar would be, but it doesn't sound good. Clenched fist? Well, my account hasn't been suspended and I never feared it would, so we seem to be on the same page there. I don't know about TX, but in CA you need to purchase an 'Adventure Pass' to park. 'It's a recreation pass for visitors using the Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres, and San Bernardino National Forests. The Pass is to be displayed on visitors' vehicles and is available in two forms: a daily pass for $5.00 and an annual pass good for one year from the month of purchase for $30.00.' I gladly paid my $30 for a year (maybe not so gladly).
  12. Oh no, seems there are lots of 'touchy' topics/subjects... I said more touchy....
  13. My point was clear in response to the previous posts. Geocache clothing is sold, premium membership sold, tie ins with Jeep etc. Much money is being made off of geocaching, money makes the world go round and I have no problems with someone with ingenuity, incentive, business acumen etc etc etc doing well. The site is run well and it looks to take allot of time and effort. I would not have paid the membership had I thought differently. We were talking about caches placed in a commercial establishment and the 'legality' of them; I said that it seemed hypocritical to ban them. It seems this subject is more 'touchy' than I had imagined.
  14. That is my point. The money generated does not 'just' pay the bills. PROFIT. So a 'commercial cache' might make 'someoneELSE' money.... I see now. I thought it was about protecting the cachers from someone placing a lame cache in order to try and get them to buy something.
  15. The profit was made at time of purchase yes. The caches facilitate the demand part of the supply and demand scenario. I guess my point is that it seems rather hypocritical.
  16. Imaskeerd to bring this up but...... if there is a cache in the woods, noone around for miles and I put a travel bug in it..... well isn't someone making a profit off of that bug? Isn't that commercial? So what that you have to walk into an historical building to log a cache, so what if they happen to sell stuff there. Ok I'm gonna duck and hide now...
  17. Very interesting, I've been thinking about this alot lately. I have dreams of opening a little coffee shop. In those dreams lately pops up the idea that I could 'host' a cache there. The cache would have various swag plus coupons for free coffee or pastrie, not discounted but free, so no purchase need be made....just a nice coffee/snack break in a day of caching. No commercial gain intended, yet I can see that it may violate some rules or does it?????
  18. Emily Litella Called: What's all this fuss I keep hearing about ‘Microbe Catchers’ and those that want to ban them? I say if people want to go around catching microbes they should be free to do so. Why it’s outrageous that some people would try to take away anyone’s right to catch microbes! We live in America don’t we? We should do something about this! I would rather have people running around catching microbes then committing crimes, that brings me to another topic, what’s all this I keep hearing about ‘Saxon violence’ on T.V.? Why I’ve been watching and watching and I haven’t seen it once……
  19. After reading some of these posts, I have to admit, I wouldn't have thought a thing about it if I had seen a bumper sticker backing my political views, not thinking about how I would like to see bumper stickers not reflecting my political views (all in baggies of course ). Glad I will now be aware of leaving something like that, I guess it's the same with the religious literature.
  20. Totem, the only problem I have is with bullies like you who try to intimidate others and think they are superior to others as you so clearly do. YES I called you a name. This should make you jump for joy---run with it. Now you can think on it awhile, and dissect my sentences ignoring what doesn't help your antagonistic agenda and respond to try and make yourself look intelligent, well spoken and level headed. A discussion was being had, you picked and picked until you started the fight you originally intended to do. Then with what seems like glee you started the little holier than thou dance, baiting others until you got what you wanted so you could put your spin on it all. You are not better than everyone, you are not smarter than everyone.... live and let live, discuss and let discuss. I have a gift for you.........THE LAST WORD...... take it and enjoy.
  21. Dragon... again thank you, however I fear your attempts are to no avail. Dora.. Spot on about Target, the compasses and key chains are great! The kids I sometimes take often just want those key chains (go figure). And this has been said to death, but the dollar stores, I just had a particularly good round at the local one.... can't wait to get some catching in this weekend so I can get this cool swag out there! I'm starting to notice sticker packs at the stores now and from the posts it seem some people like them, I guess it’s all about keeping then packaged as was said earlier.
