  1. I am guilty of not logging online, tho I have tried to rectify that. I really thought that the hard copy was what mattered and I didn't like the 'numbers' aspect. I now see that it is helpful to the next finders and enjoyable for the placer so I have tried to log everything. idiosyncratic, we are in the same area so maybe you will be finding one of my caches soon! CompuCash, I don't understand your statement
  2. Exactly!! It would be an interesting experiment. I am hopefully placing my first cache this weekend, I have decided to make it a members only cache, and I am now going to consider this approach, however it is my first cache so maybe I should just keep it simple .
  3. Yes, I know (as stated) that it is subjectable. So you’re saying that finders would downtrade and then so as not to be accountable would log tnln? Hmm, I think I have to agree with you (yikes) on that one, I guess maybe now I'm thinking of... how to word this, um what keeps popping into my head is 'keeping honest people honest' in that if there are those out there actively and consciously downtrading, well nothing will stop them, but maybe being required to log the trade would get those who just don't bother to think about it... well, thinking about it.
  4. Ok, so the cache idiosyncratic linked to stipulates 'no trade no find' could a cache owner stipulate that you absolutley had to list what you traded (TNLN not an issue) if not log doesn't count? I think accountability goes a long way. I do understand tho that there are logs out there seemingly admitting a bad trade.... it is very subjective and that is a can of worms, I'm more trying to get at the issue of those who know that they are downtrading. I'm not looking for the usual fight on this topic, just looking to discuss this thank you.
  5. Sounds cool! Now all I have to do is go buy an ipod (kidding, I understand you can get around that)
  6. These article are great! It was a trip down memory lane reading the Fairbanks paper, I graduated high school there!!!
  7. In my line of work, and being prior military (ok ok Air Force) trust me I am not thin skinned! Having said that, I don't have much patience for some of the B.S. that goes on in these forums, whether it be directed at myself or others. (watch the 'if you don't like it go away and don't whine' posts come like thunder) I won't be bullied.
  8. Is it any wonder more GeoCachers don't utilize these forums?
  9. Thank you Byron, I guess the best way to stop people from 'whining' is to come to the forums and whine about it.
  10. The target dollar spot is great! We got some of those key chains and some compasses. We also have a box of coins from when my grandparents went on a tour of the world in the early 70s. It's frustrating because when you complain or vent about the trash that you find it gets turned into you being greedy or looking for some high$ items, like you said dollar store stuff can be great to find, it's the trash and broken stuff that bothers us.
  11. Before I ask this, yes I have googled but without much luck A coworker of mine insists a friend of his was 'hooked up' with Rattlesnake antivenom by his doctor. He claims to carry this with him while hiking in case of an 'incident'. I have seen several Rattlers here in San Diego while hiking/caching and would really like to acquire this for my dogs and myself. Anyone heard of this?
  12. This topic does seem to come up allot. Obviously then it is an issue with more than just a select few. Why must people be berated and called belittling names? I like to hike, I like to see new places AND I like to trade. Some of us do, some of us don't, is any one group better than the other? I found a cache recently filled with what looked like someone’s junk mail. Being bothered by this does not make me greedy, or 'in it' for the wrong reasons or a whiner.
  13. We are back from our camping trip to Running Springs. Took a long look at the Infinity cache and felt sick . Decided to head up the creek to do the others. They were awesome! The Keller peak cache was not to be found by us . The best one was The Ole Swimming Hole by fishpoet, truly amazing swimming holes!!!! If you are in the area you've gotta check it out!
  14. This says it all. If someone wants to go to the same cache once a year or month and log it as a find each time, why not. The only place (imo) that the numbers matter is to the individual, unfortunately people try to use their numbers or other's lack of numbers on these forums to give or take credence from someone else’s point of view and that is a shame. When prizes or titles are given out in some official manner, then definitive rules for claiming a smiley face will need to be hashed out and set in place. I am new here, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
  15. Thanks for the help! We saw the Infinty cache and well, I can jump out of planes but get me on a bridge and I get all noodle like. We do plan on attempting some of the other caches by those evil hiders. We already printed out the Keller Peak, looks like a good one! We are thinking of dropping a bone onto infinity and seeing if Jack (other half of Birdie) will crawl down to it for us! (Dogs BTW ) I emailed one of the cachers on the list who was up in the area but got no reply... that's why I came here. We're actually taking off after work today. As for the picture of the perps: Yes they do look familiar..... seems to me my canine partner showed some interest in them down at the border, beedie-eyes the lot of em! Thanks again!
  16. Greetings San Diego GeoCachers! We are new cachers (letterboxers first). We will be going up to the Running Springs Big Bear Lake area and we are hoping to get some recommendations for caches up there. Caches to stay away from, also good to know. Thanks for any help you can give us.
  17. I like the idea of FTF prizes. The TB idea is great, I would love to find that, and come to think of it, I might just steal that idea! I thought about a Starbucks card but then realized not everyone drinks coffee. I also thought about having numbered sig coins made up in the future, the first of the series would be a good prize (but I might wanna keep it for myself ).. I wonder what the first ever FTF prize was?
  18. OK just chill. What does posting those pictures have to do with anything? Falls, slow down and reread what you type before you hit send. You seem to be trying to ruffle feathers, may not be the case, but it is what it seems. Take a breather and form your thoughts clearly. It is an interesting discussion and let's try to keep it from spiraling out of control.
  19. I thought he was joking, 6/6 caches? Real GeoCachers only hide caches that require more than a 20 miles rock climbing. And are able to fit a full-size pickup inside to cache. .????????? You taking this seriously? Trolling is a possibility
  20. I happen to have a problem with how the 'numbers' are thrown around in this forum. So for now I log notes. I think the problem here is the way you are expressing your 'issue'. Those who will do upwards of 40 caches a day in an effort to increase their numbers.... well that goes against what geocaching is to me/ geo=earth, ground, soil. But the key here is that it obviously does not go against what geocaching is to them and they have every right to feel the way they do). I'm not sure where you live, but here in San Diego there are some 'urban' caches that are very worthwhile. If you want to embrace geocaching and excel at it and be able to attain a ranking to reflect your hard work (what you consider hard anyway), I commend you, but--I am sorry to tell you that is not going to happen. Too many variables.
  21. OMG!!! There is a JEEP parked on my street right now!!!
