  1. I am one of many, who would like a better way of being notified of new geocaches to improve my FTF chances. I use my iPhone for paperless, and would love a method of a clear & distinct notification, instead of a standard Text or Email sound effect. Lots of Texts & Emails pass my way, and lost FTF opportunities slip past.. Ideas. 1. Add an Instant Notification option in the Geocaching App. Alert directly from the app in the background, even when the app isn't running. Use non standard sound effects and/or voice to alert me what the Notification is. "Published! Published! Published!" That would make me want to use the Geocaching App more often. It's an easy choice to just access it, rather than saving the .gpx or .loc file & mess with importing it to my gpsr and/or other iphone GC apps. 2. It's own separate app with the same features. Even if it's just an app that accesses emails, & alerts me if there's anything from 'noreply@geocaching.com' Then it would be like a Fire House Alarm. No pole to fly down from, but with my iPhone & Go-Bag, I would be out the door, off to a great start to get that FTF. James "Fraverco" Wyatt
  2. That's the problem I currently have.. I click on a pocket query & it downloads. Type - File I attempt to rename it, & add a '.zip' to it Type - Zip Archive Then it works fine..
  3. My Brain is too small to keep everything in there correctly.. Like when I pick up a Travelbug or Geocoin, and then drop it of a cache or two later. Gotta keep them codes to log it all online later. Also, I like to record details of the Hunt/Find so my online log is a bit more than TNLNSL, & if it don't get recorded on scene, the memory fades.. I like the idea of a Digital Recorder.. Thanks!!
  4. For about six months, I've been using a "Fat lil' notebook from Mead to take my notes. Until I get an Garmin Oregon & punch it all in, I'm not going truly paperless with my Colorado. I'd be sitting there for hours with the Rock-n-Roller. I used packing tape to strengthen the covers, but now there are stress marks on the area between the holes for the wire binding. I happened to be in our local Berean Christian Bookstore, looking for a Journal as a gift, when I came across this Dayspring Travel Journal. Leather Binding. The edges of the page have circles to fill in for the Day/Month/Date. Saves me the step of actually writing the date down. All I need is a rubber band to keep a Pen with it.. http://alturl.com/w5wz http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-9312810590081...11_22595696.jpg http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-9312810590081...11_22698278.jpg What do you use?? Small Clipboard?
  5. For two days I've been attempting to setup a TB. (Classic Dogtag) After filling out the Tracking # & Activation Code, Name, Mission, & Description, & clicking on the button at the bottom, I get.... 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. http://www.geocaching.com/error/error.aspx...k/activate.aspx I sent Groundspeak an email yesterday, but no reply.. (Dude! Help me to get out & Jam!!)
  6. Greetings fellow Cachers.. :::Spoiler Alert::: I had a Geocache called Well at least you're heading in the Right Way GCQYB1. It was a military container attached to a nice screw locking carabiner, attached to a steel loop welded to the lid of this water well in the parking lot where I work. The company next door was called RiteWay Janitorial. Someone took the nice carabiner, and replaced it with a cheap belt loop knock-off.. And when the next person lifted the lid.. "Splash!! lost cache.." That was over a year ago.. RiteWay is gone, but in it's place is a Sheepskin Seat Cover company.. So I want to put a new cache at the same place, naming the cache what the Genie told Aladdin after he got tricked into getting all of them out of the Cave of Wonders in the Disney movie.. I'll be having a steel chain welded to both the lid & the cache, so there's no repeat of loss.. So, my Question is, do i Create a new listing, or unarchive & modify the old listing?? Thanks for your input... James "Fraverco" Wyatt
  7. Twelve days of Anticipation until Kern County Cachers Pizza Meet & Greet... tick...tick...tick... Finally a chance to meet & greet some local geo-yokels.. Shake the Hands of the owners of some ingenious Caches that i found, and perhaps shake "newbie" fists of frustration to others. (S.O.S. - Shaken Owner Syndrome) Make new friendships, get advice, hear about Geowoodstock, & even get stuffed with Pizza... I'll be the short geeky guy with glasses wearing a "Sinner" T-Shirt thinking "I have no clue where to go, so I'll try the pointy finger resting on chin approach.." James "Fraverco" Wyatt tick... tick... tick...
  8. I've been "Out" of the GC scene for a year, and just got a blackberry.. Today a friend & I hit 5 caches today, (missed 2).. This one popped up, and I'm excited to meet the "locals".. Hope to meet all of you next month... James Wyatt P.S. Here are some Ideas for a Logo.... Idea 1 Idea 2
  9. All sounds real complicated.. Simplicity is the key.. Such as sticking your pinky in the air like an antenna.
  10. Jeremy... Thank You!!! Shivering with Anticipation!!! I wonder where on GC.com is this going to be shown? Is there a "New Features" area?
  11. Magellan vs Garmin Coke vs Pepsi Can't we just get along?
  12. Manual Entry. Eeww! How 20th Century... Paperless rules.. Pocket Query to Email to GSAK to Garmin iQue 3600 GPS/PDA to CacheMate/Nav. Manual Entry Stinks.
  13. I found this on another message here in our beloved Forum. ClayJar's Geocache Rating System
  14. I pray that Jeremy wont wallop me, but I had to resize the GC logo a bit.. sorry. MSPaint (streched) I - Google Image Search LOVE - and Logo. First Try... I would prefer to purchase an "Official" Bumper Sticker from GC.com
  15. Every once in awhile while on GC.com I see this Ad. That middle part is the best idea, I've seen for a Bumper Sticker.. Any chance that this might become available to Purchase??
  16. My Problem with using a gpx file with Google Earth is that all I see is the Waypoint Name. The Title would be preferred. I wonder if I can change that with GSAK? I can't wait for GC version of this feature for GE... Jeremy, please keep us posted... Thx! (Release Dates, Works in Progress, Beta Testing Drool...
  17. Pretty decent for MSPaint...
  18. I use my little Boston Terrier "Max" Who would want to see my Mug up there? Not me..
  19. Of couse... Re-Released into the Wild.. Born free, as free as the wind blows As free as the grass grows Born free to follow your heart (COUGH!) Spent Free........... O la paloma blanca, I'm just a buck in the sky.O la paloma blanca, over the mountains I fly. Yes, no one can take my freedom away...
  20. I hope I don't get flamed for this, but.. I believe that it's wrong for any Geocacher to use a WG$ in a cache. It's the Same as stamping & entering 100's of $1 and immediately depositing them into a Bank.. (Which is stated in the WG Rules as a no-no and grounds for account termination. Imagine scientists attaching a tracking band on a birds leg, to watch the Migratory patterns.. And some EVIL POACHERS shoot and Kill these birds, and put them in the freezer... Sounds familiar?? Another WG$ shot down.. If I ever find any WG$ in a cache, I'll make sure I'll set them free.. And I'll replace each of them with something from my swag. Swag In. (WG) Cash Out... To the folks who keep using WG$ for tracking Caches: Buy a Travel Bug ya Cheap Bum! Flame War Disperse! James.
  21. Does anyone have any ideas to improve on this??? Mine is you enter your Starting Point & Destination, and as GoogleEarth displays your route, GeoCaching.com displays all Caches along route. Now I can enjoy some caching all trip long.. Does anyone consider seeing the Location on (GE) as Cheating?
  22. The following is a request for a new feature for Geocaching.com The Following Image is a Screen Shot of Google Earth showing a part of Las Vegas NV. The Yellow Thumbtacks are Caches. Andy Fowler created a great script for Google Earth. EarthCache. (EC) EarthCache Google Earth (GE) Google Earth When you've stopped at a location in (GE), (EC) searches Geocaching.com (GC) listings and displays them on (GE) with direct links to (GC)'s listings. I believe (GC) should use & improve this tool as a Great Feature for Free and/or Paid Members.. PLEASE! consider this... Thank you.. JamesWyatt
  23. God, I love this script. Stop anywhere in the world via Google Earth and nearby caches pop up. Although Andy's server glitches up now & again... If Geocaching.com was smart, they should add this feature to their Paid Members. Better Server/Bandwidth. With GC's searches, you're limited to a single area, here just move around, and more caches appear. It's also a great way of finding caches along a route.. Show me another way of doing that here... James.
