  1. If Groundspeak's leaders are going to be consistent with their policies, then they will now need to consider whether Puzzle Caches are still tolerable. Maybe the puzzle ban, when it comes, will take the same form as this latest one: You can keep your puzzle, Mr. Cache Owner, but you are no longer allowed to withhold the cache’s coordinates from those who cannot (or will not) attempt the challenge; you must now post the solution coordinates on the cache page, and you may now only request that the finder work your puzzle. I mean, really, what does it matter? Even if there are "suggested" puzzles we will still do them ... right? It was the intent of the cache placer, and after all, that's what WE want, the total experience. EVERYONE will still work your puzzles ... right? If that's directed at me, you'll not get the answer you're hoping for....I HATE puzzles! A few would be fine, but comeon out here to my area and check out the multitude of blue ?....and some are just ridiculous! I say SEEYA to those puzzles as well!!! Um... there's a feature Groundspeak helpfully provided. It's called the ignore list. If you hate puzzles and ALR's, well, then it's very easy to use that ignore list to filter out any blue ?'s, since those made up the two categories listed under the ?. But no. Evidently that's not good enough for you. Since YOU hate them, they should be taken away from EVERYONE, whether they enjoy them or not. That is the mindset that Groundspeak has unfortunately chosen to cave in to. I appreciate that it makes less work on the reviewers, who have plenty to deal with as it is, but the door has been kicked wide open for the removal of puzzle caches as well. Me, I love puzzle caches... a chance to exercise my mental muscles as well as my physical ones. I don't want to see those taken away. You may note, I am not pushing for a ban, I am merely opining...is this still OK or will I now be burned at the stake? Some of you seem overly paranoid...the mean old cache patrol is coming to ban my cache...oh my! Ask yourself though, if, having to find and post a picture of a dead animal, having to find 100 micros, having to do any number of less-than-imaginative ALS's is fun, why wouldn't someone do them anyway if SUGGESTED? I'd be more inclined to at least attempt to do the suggestion! Oh, it's not all about having fun, but to see if your control can reach out to the finders??? I understand.... Truly, if you need to make ridiculous ALS's to spice up your hide, you probably have less creativity than most who place a cache without the ALS. If you can't make a hide fun without adding something non-cache related forced upon the potential (I say potential because some of us would simply ignore these types, as I do) finder, then maybe you shouldn't hide it at all...just saying! By the way, almost ALL my caches are ALR! Additional to finding the cache, on most of my hides, you may be required to be eaten alive by mosquitoes, torn apart by thorns, risk life and limb to poisonous plants and possibly the occassional snake, maybe get wet or at least sweaty and, on some, take long walks only to have to return the same way! You might even have to THINK and use your imagination at times!! But, not many of mine ever have been or ever will be a puzzle or have a blue question mark! Why would some of us think that cachers would do the suggested activity? How many people actually take pictures of TBs and post them to their page when it's requested? Not a whole lot. Just sayin'. Now that is not fun to me. The longer I'm in this, the less appealing the woods are. I've had enough of ticks and snakes.
  2. I loved finding that cache! Very interesting!! I just didn't like the driving to it. LOL! We took the indirect route.
  3. I had a PMO cache for a while. It was in a small park and was ALWAYS busy with people heading out in their boats. I didn't want a number of people showing up when it was first published, and I was looking to have the traffic to it in general not be too busy. It was also close to a bridge but not under it, so a lot of traffic wouldn't look too good. A couple people did get caught in the bushes by a police officer. There's a nice park a town over that pretty recently had a few caches disappear out of it. If I remember correctly, there was a cacher who came across the people at the time and wondered about a bag they were carrying. Apparently, a few caches.
  4. That's exactly why I archived the original and submitted a new cache. Personally, I love finding Unknown/Mystery caches! I don't want the count to decrease.
  5. Exactly. And it's not fun when I'm heading off a fire road, standing at the edge of the woods, and the GPS says it's a quarter mile into the woods...with NO trail around. No thank you! Safety is a big issue also. At the same cache that was .25 into the woods, there were two separate issues in the parking lot. And with the second issue, I was VERY glad to see a police car turn into the lot. There was a cache in a park where a couple was sitting. I said...Excuse me! I'm on a scavenger hunt, and I need to look for something on the bench you're sitting on. They moved and watched.
  6. The same and all the associated arguments and suggestions on how to keep them have been said many times about virtuals too. We all know how that has worked so far. Those of us that liked moving caches, virtuals, and locationless caches were all told to get over it or go elsewhere. Well, I guess it is time for the fans of required ALR's to do the same. Moving caches are history? They were pretty much before my time I think. When we were planning our trip to DC and Arlington last December, I was reading of a current moving cache in that area. Why would there be an exception?
  7. You realize that ALRs being listed as 'unknown' is a pretty recent development, right? In fact, I'm pretty sure that many old ones still exist as traditional caches. Either way, your example would not make the cache an unknown/mystery for anyone, since it is a traditional cache. How recent is pretty recent? This cache has been out over a year.
  8. Just today a cacher in our area informed me that "the reason" for a cache is to find the cache. It's apparently not to have any other possible fun associated with a cache.
  9. I couldn't agree with you more with what's in bold. Creativity will go out the window. What's left? A "creative" cache container? How many fake pine cones can we find in a pine tree before it's also run of the mill? I just archived my photo cache. And I've submitted a new one without the photo being a requirement. So now they can choose to post one or not. How does that make the cache an Unknown/Mystery cache for those NOT choosing to post a photo?

Then they also need to ban all "water" caches since not everyone has a boat.
  11. Why? The game is about finding hidden containers and a "found it" log means "I have found the stash. Geocaching does not mean to make people to silly things. Do you remove the log entry in the caches logbook if a cacher does not perform the ARL? To me and my sons, caching is about having fun. There are memorable caches and there are instantly forgettable caches. We'll seek out the ALRs and do them because it adds to the experience. Evidently from your definition, fun is not an important criterion to you. So ignore the caches with ALRs. Simple. But don't take the right of the owner away to remove the logs of those who refuse to play along. I've not needed to remove any logs from my ALR cache and I've not given cause to any ALR cache owner to consider removing my log. I've advised cachers who have signed my cache logs but forgotten to log online, I've advised cachers who have signed the first stage of a multi and claimed the cache that they have not completed it, but I have not deleted the logs. Why? Because I've had perfectly logs for legitimate finds of traditional caches removed by owners for their personal reasons and I know how aggravating it is. The reasonable man adapts himself to the world he finds. The unreasonable man insists on adapting the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man. What's significant here is the rights of owners over their caches. This is what has been diminished. Progress and innovation have been stifled further. The fundamentalists will be happy. Now I'm out of here. Thee's an ALR cache I want to log before the owner archives it in disgust. I've had one log deleted. That was pretty much when we first started caching. Darling son was in the picture, but I forgot to hand him the GPS. The owner deleted quickly! No chance of going back to get a picture with the GPS. Just...delete! They said having a GPS in a picture is a basic thing so...poof! Never mind that my son was in the picture. I think that alone pretty much proves we found it! Great way to be with beginners. With mine I will let them know how much time they have and/or e-mail them to see if they will get a picture posted soon.

Me, I love puzzle caches... a chance to exercise my mental muscles as well as my physical ones. I don't want to see those taken away. I LOVE puzzle caches also. I absolutely HATE multis! Puzzle caches are fun for me with the exception of the devious ones with who knows what code to find the solution. There are some cachers out there who love placing devious caches no matter what type they are. They are all on my ignore list! I really think multi caches need to have a REQUIREMENT to tell you how many stages it is on the cache page!!! A lot of them...you have no clue. If it's more than two or three, I'm not interested at all. If it looks like a quick one, I might attempt it. If we would get a smilie for each stage, that might help a bit. Can we get rid of all the devious hides? We have WAY too many in our area.
  13. Sad day. I have a cache out there based on one we found in Fredericksburg, VA. It requires a picture of something interesting in our area be posted along with your log. The PURPOSE of the cache is to have a "scrapbook" of interesting attractions in our area. There's only a log because a physical log is required...since virtuals are history. (We're missing a lot of interesting places without virtuals!) This change kills my cache. It will be archived as opposed to changing it. I really wish that what is out there would be grandfathered! They've already been approved, and each cacher has the choice of hunting for them or not.
  14. Aaaah! Too bad I didn't see this thread sooner. Had the timing been right for you, you could have joined a bunch of Hampton Roads cachers at a 5/5 in the swamps last weekend. GCTPE3
  15. I hadn't read that until after the coins I ordered arrived. Don't know how I missed it. I wasn't a happy camper though. You can bet I read EVERYTHING before "purchasing" now!
  16. Yup, dropped three bugs yesterday. Mileage isn't there for them. I'm guessing it will update at some point.
  17. Never mind. Google maps will work. I just have to wait a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally long time for everything to show up. LOL!
  18. Did the link vanish with the last update? That's the only map I have any luck with to get driving directions. I've tried 4 of the others currently listed. NADA! I can't get them to populate the "Drive to" area with the cache! Yes, some of us are STILL stuck on dial-up.
  19. Can you please share how you find 75 caches in a day? Some of us can't get past 20!!!!
  20. Okay, I see I'm not the only one. I didn't get mine either.
  21. I ran a PQ for my finds. I haven't received an e-mail with the query in it. I just checked to see if I need to rerun the query. The box is grayed out like it worked when I requested it, and it says it was done at 10:15 a.m. today. Anyone else with this problem today?
