  1. Why dont I see a coin in Battle Moutain Nevada!
  2. Yup! I am to sponsor it. We just have to make reservations far in advanced due to the fact the City sells out all the time. Battle Mountain is pretty much the middle of Nevada, center of the Universe and all around 'unique' town. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Mountain,_Nevada
  3. Congrats! Also felt the earthquake here as well.
  4. I had just gotten home from a family event, after putting gas in the car at $3.30/gallon!!! I quickly checked my email (my wife thinks the computer is connected to me) and saw that the CCC had left a Geocoin close to my work. So glad I keep this cache on my watchlist. Ran out the door, floored it towards the cache. Passed by the security guard as he was driving around the parking lot. As I got to the cache my heart was racing. I didnt want to miss my opportunity to get this cool coin. As I pulled the cache out, I noticed a coin in the cache! Awesome! Pulled the coin, number 27, gold! I had some of my personal geocoins in the car so I left it as a 'fair' trade for this geocoin. The way I drove I probably ate up about 3 gallons of gas! I guess it is back to the bike for me next week. Thanks again for the Geocoin. nielsenc
  5. I see #72 hasnt been found yet either! I have a whole stash of coins ready to trade for it if it happens to come to a cache nearby. nielsenc
  6. Not to nit pick, but the picture you post looks a lot like: So if you think anyone would steal your idea, maybe you should see who owns it first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_the_Red-Nosed_Reindeer "The story is owned by The Rudolph Company, L.P." http://www.cbs.com/specials/rudolph/
  7. I agree, Ebay would give you Fair Market Value. If you do have some rare coins, I would suggest you just list all your coins on ebay. Start the price out at 0.01 since you need the money and would want to get as much as possible. Good luck. If you have some coins you are missing, I will get some bids in.
  8. I am going to have to agree with this. Avoiding Holiday Weekends works better for our family.
  9. Nope. I guess he/she/they dont want a 1000 email requests.
  10. Are you going to re-mint more?
  11. Most likely after Thanksgiving.
  12. The way I read it, as long as the coin is not sold, there is no payment required. I assume if you were to trade 1/2 the coins and later sell the rest on ebay or the forums, you might get a note about having to cough up the money since you broke the 'spirit' of the agreement presented. Two Notes: 1) I am not a lawyer 2) I am not involved anyway with the planning of the event. This just how I read it.
  13. Personally, I really hope you dont try to file a trademark for the word 'geocoin'. If you do, I am sure there are a few people who would make sure that trademark never happens. You are just wasting your money since the term "Geocoin" has been in use for many years now. You are just wasting your money. As for GeoWoodstock, you can find it here: Word Mark GEOWOODSTOCK Goods and Services IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: (Based on Use in Commerce) Entertainment services, namely, participation in Geocaching. FIRST USE: 20030423. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20030621 Standard Characters Claimed Mark Drawing Code (4) STANDARD CHARACTER MARK Serial Number 77282122 Filing Date September 18, 2007 Current Filing Basis 1A Original Filing Basis 1A Owner (APPLICANT) William J. Armstrong INDIVIDUAL UNITED STATES 9725 Clovercroft Road Nolensville TENNESSEE 37135 Type of Mark SERVICE MARK Register PRINCIPAL Live/Dead Indicator LIVE --- For coins which are SOLD, esp those which are sold at the event, what is wrong with Giving $1.00 back? This goes to support the event which allows the seller to be there to sell. I think this is more fair than what happened last year where people who didnt donate anything were given free tables to sell their GW Coins while giving nothing additional to those who donated to the event. I even know of one vendor who donated and didnt even get a table to sell.
  14. I dont see it as a scam. From what I read, the $1.00/coin goes towards the event. Put on a large event and you will quickly see your costs go up and up. Those of us that attend rarely see the costs of those putting on an event. I have NO problem with the $1.00 fee going towards the event. I think it is fair and provides a good balance.
  15. I am pretty sure that the money is going to the GWVI committee for GWVI. That being said, I think the fee for people selling geocoins is reasonable as the money goes to support the event. We have done a few events and I know of others doing events where the cost to do the event was high for the number of people. If this helps the event breakeven, I am ok with it. Once again, I dont think the fee covers items like those Damenace brought up, small, trade only items. Of course, the best way would be for some clarification. As for taxes, I have my own taxes to do .
  16. When we first asked JoGPS about doing a GWVI coin, he told us we had to pay him $10,000.00. We explained that was too much and would increase the cost of a 250 coin run to $40/coin! He also explained that a non-trackable personal coin would cost $1000.00. The current 'rules' seem more in line with what is reasonable. You can find them here: http://www.geowoodstockvi.com/News/article/sid=5.html And from how I read it, free items, ie items not sold, will not be charged a fee:
  17. Most likely just packaged incorrectly. Congrats on your find...
  18. I would propose Battle Mountain NV. Close to Las Vegas and Reno. Well closer than any other location being proposed .
  19. I hope this continues to remain a mystery....
  20. Is that one big coin or just small hands! Nothing in my P.O. Box today. No cache drops in the area.
  21. I know where I am sending MY kids to go trick or treating! When growing up, word traveled fast which house would hand out full size butterfingers . In your area stay away from Saratoga, they are miserly scrooges! Maybe I should take my kids to Los Altos, Los Gatos, Saratoga and Palo Alto . I wonder what Steve Jobs hands out for Halloween, ipods anyone?
  22. I wonder where all the fair trading is going to be done for these mailbox coins!
  23. Are these mail coins or cache coins? It seems I miss the coins that are 'mailed' around yet I have good luck finding cache coins around the Bay Area. I keep watching for another coin to drop.
  24. There is one called Evil Empire right close to me. Hopefully I can find one there so I dont have to drive as far!
