  1. Ah I see that old gypsy fortune teller is still around, she told me I'd be shot at the age of 98 going out of a ladies bedroom window by her jealous husband
  2. Doesn't matter what you believe, fact is I found over 500 caches in about 6 hours signing every log myself at GZ, no stamps, no throw downs and no moving the caches, even by Cezanne's standards, these would all be finds. And the best part, I had an awesome time with my kids. I did 450 on the 66 cache run signing the logs myself and stopping so the dog could check his Pmail all in about an 10 hr period. For all the naysayers look at Ventura Kids and see what they have done in a 24hr period usually a 3 person team
  3. I started in Feb. of 2001 and I'll be 75 next month, not caching as much as I did in the early years. I've been thinking about maybe hanging it up after hitting 10,000. It could be this year or maybe 5 years down the road
  4. You can be banned from posting in the forum, but not be banned from using the website. You can still find and hide caches. B. then it's not a total ban like I've seen happen to some
  5. just checked Toz's profile and he was on the site on the first of the month, also nothing posted in his profile about being banned
  6. There are other ways to give back to the hobby besides hiding caches. And for some, NOT hiding caches that they can't maintain may be a better way to give back to the hobby. Absolutely. Pressuring cachers to hide caches they can't maintain in the name of "giving back" just results in bad caches. Some people are more inclined to hide than others. Actually, I wish more people would exercise restraint when it comes to hiding caches. +1
  7. Oh... so you had fire then, eh? Lucky.... Oh... so, you had language then, eh? And it was so tiring to do a lot of caches in one day when having to carve a name into those heavy, stone tablet logs.Hey those stone mallets were heavy and remember it was uphill both waysYou had mallets?! we tied rocks to big sticks, and we were still trying to make round wheels the square ones just didn't roll that well.

  9. There does seem to be a lot of truth to this. I'm glad I grew up at a time when I would play all day, outside with neighbors, and only come back in when the streetlights came on. When my parents wouldn't be in trouble for just letting me walk to the park alone. I am 67. We had to come in when the lamplighters lit the street lamps
  10. I live in lake Elsinore, I think my coordinates are for the midle of the lake
  11. in 2008 we volunteered to guest host at Casswell memorial state park just outside of Ripon Ca. just so we could be close to geowoodstock VI, we had a fun time and also possibly saved the caches in the park, as the ranger was considering banning caches in the park. We checked the placement of them and let him know they were all within a step or two of the trails except one and it was in an open area
  12. it comes in different colors I have it in red blue and yellow, it will also hold up under light pressure like a temp fix for a radiator hose
  13. I've become a fan of using mechanical fasteners (bolts, rivets, whatever), and then using an adhesive as a sealant. But with that said, I've had pretty good luck with JB Weld, even repairing car parts with it (which then survived regular use for years until I sold the car). I would expect that a layer of JB Weld going all the way around the preform would bear a strong resemblance to a mechanical fastener. +1 or at least over half way
  14. some really good video productions have been done with geocaching. It can be fun, but don't post any spoilers! f you order the head strap you also get a clip that will fit on the back of a ball cap
  15. We did the first 300 in early October 2010 and the weather was in the 70's
  16. This is the perfect time for desert caching, summer it's just to hot. I did part of the heart of the Mojave desert a week ago and it was a perfect 70 degrees
  17. try opening file in the upper right hand corner scan down to export open it and scan down to gpx/loc open it at the top you'll see a box file type check and see if gpx is highlited if not click on it. If that doesn't work take the day off and go do the Camino Diablo trail
  18. How much temperature variation do you get in your part of California? Highs over 100,this January we had snow on the ground prob in the mid to high 20s,average winter lows anywhere from low 40s to below freezing, El. is about 1300ft
  19. Not a preform but a wallyworld orange match holder used enough epoxy to cover the magnet and partially wrap around the container. It lasted over 4 years until it was stolen
  20. I've seen some pretty big shrink tube at Interstate batteries where I buy smaller tubing for 2 gauge welding cable for my golf carts I'd check online for it. I've used heat shrink tubing on bison tubes but not preforms. Will the heat affect the preform plastic? I'm guessing not, but best be quick with the heat gun (or lighter). the shrink tubing I use has a sealant inside so it takes a little more heat I've seen some on line that look like a thin plastic which would probably work fine. I use a Harbor freight heat gun it has a hi and low setting

  22. I only found 44 caches last year and was debating whether to renew my premium membership this year, I've been caching for almost 14 years and it isn't as much fun as it used to be, I've been taking breaks of a month or 2 for the last 6 or 7 years. I've been think of quitting when I hit 10001 which may be next year or maybe 5 years who knows :D
  23. If I was Roman I wouldn't drive from British Columbia to So Cal for 100 caches either, I would if there were maybe other reasons to be in the area like work or maybe using vacation time. We go out to the desert 2 or 3 times a year to cache, at my age it's more enjoyable and easier on my knees then doing parking lot caches. Next week we plan on doing about 300 of the 29 palms to Earp cache run, I need almost 300 to hit 7000 and want to do it before my 14 anniversary yeah it's a cache run and will spend 2 days doing it. The idea of the game is to enjoy yourself and have fun, of course there are cachers out there that think if your not doing it their way it isn't the right way to cache
  24. Not sure about Roman, but when we did it we did it on 2 different trips to Laughlin, and had a ball both times Route 66 is a more enjoyable drive then Interstate 40
  25. If the park is like ours, it's park property all the way to the street, the city here has about a 15 ft easement but we still maintain it. If a cache was placed in that area we would probably leave it and cachers alone
