  1. I notice that when you do a regular search for geo-caches using a postal code that you can specify a maximum distance you want them away from the center, say 100 miles - these caches also include those that you own and found. When you do an advanced search however, you can remove the found/own caches but you can no longer specify a maximum distance. I would like to suggest that they distance feature be added to the advance search. Thanks!
  2. When I do an advanced search and come up with list of the nearest caches I have not found, then hit "map it" the googel map doesn't show me these caches, instead it always shows me 20 of the nearest caches in my area, not the ones on the previous page. Will these two pages be linked someday so that the results of my search will show up on the map? Is there some way that I can that manually, remove found caches so that they never show up in map it again? It would also be VERY nice is google maps would show more than 20 caches. Thanks for all your hard work - geo-caching is the best!
  3. I really like using Magellan Geocache Manager (tried GSAK but was too complex) but I have found that it has one problem. When I download my geocaches (200 each time) I noticed that there is some missing! Turns out, that if there is series of geo-caches with the same name--plus a number eg "Woodstock geo-cache 1, Woodstock geo-cache 2 etc" that it interprets those caches as being the same one and deleats the rest. Obviously it is only looking at the first 10 or so letters but not the entire name of the cache. No matter how many caches there are in the series, (2 or 100), it deleates all of them but the first one, so I only get one waypoint for every series of caches. The multiple caches show up in the software on my computer but don't show up on my Explorist 500. Either the software on my computer is having issues or the software in the explorist. Can someone help me please! Johnie Cache (singing the blues! )
  4. Thanks I have downloads GSAK and am going to give it a try. I download waypoints to my palm and also to my explorist 500, I assume once I have figured it out I can have GSAK do both - right? I like the idea of having GSAK put groups of 200 waypoints into my gps in different files. Right now I do each on manually. Thanks for your help! We're all in this together (quote from Red Green)
  5. Peresntly I make up several files of 150 each, but that's a bit of a pain and seems to defeat the point of the whole thing. I have a large SD card, and I thought I could load a pile of files, each containing 500 caches. Is there an upper limit as to the number of caches the 500 can hold - even with an SD card? I tried the whole process again, erased ALL the waypoints from my GPS and downloaded only one set of 500 caches, still some were missing. There was a warning when I turned my GPS back on and opened the file, "Warning, some of the geocaching information was too big and could not be read" Does that mean that my entire file was too big, or some of the files has to much information and were therefore ingnored. Anyone else having this same problem? Never tried GSAK but hear good things about it. Is there a way that I can remove the hints and such from the geo-caches using Magellan Geocache Manager or do I have to switch to GSAK? Thanks!
  6. I bought an Explorist 500 (who didn't) but I can't download more than 150 or so caches at a time. I create a pocket query and ask for 500 caches, then I go through the process of using the geocaching manager and tell it to put the full query into my 500. Though the full 500 caches show in the geocaching manager, only about 150-180 actually are transfered. Any thoughts?
  7. I recently bought an Explorist 500 which claims to hold 500 waypoints. I use the explorist geo-caching software, choose 500 waypoints in my area and then click "transfer" it then tells me it has transfered all the waypoints to my GPS, however, when I was checking the list I noticed that some of the geo-caches in my area were missing! They are on the master list in the geo-caching software but they were not transfered to my GPS - in fact only 182 of 500 were. When I open the file (either on my GPS or SD card) I get a warning that says "Some Cache information not downloaded because of file size" or something like that. Any suggestion as to how I can get all 500 and not miss any? I was hoping to have 500 on the internal memory and then lots more on my SD card - but I don't want to be missing any. Thanks!
  8. I just bought a new Explorist 500LE and am thinking of mapware. Should I buy Mapsend and is it compatible? Some of the things I have read have said that Mapsend Streets and Destinations is NOT compatible with Explorist. Help!
  9. I'm with you, I just bought the Explorist 500 and wondered the same thing. Be careful though, the topo mapsend is not the streets and road mapsend. do you want the lay of the land or do you want the street names? Johnie
  10. Just bought a new Explorist 500 LE and was wondering about mapsend. The info on the product says that it has streets and such for the larger cities, but what about small towns and back roads? I want to get my hands on Mapquest Canada. Any thought on where I should buy it? Thanks!
  11. Just bought the same product, the DVD is just a intro to the mapsend program. You need to buy one of their products for the thing to be of any use.
  12. I just bought an Explorist 500 and I don't know how to get my waypoints into it. I do the pocket query and then unzip the files. Normally I open my cachemate file converter to change the files into PDB file for my palm, but what do I have to do to get them ready for my GPS. Thanks!
  13. I just got one for Christmas too and discovered that if I leave it plugged into my USB that it will charge the battery. I also discovered that I had the computer connection on the back of the GPS on upside down, the little tab thingie has to be at the top. I don't know how to get GPS files from my computer to the GPS however - I do a pocket querie, then what?
  14. I can't believe that Magellan would sell a GPS and battery without a charger! I was glad to read that if I leave my GPS plugged into the USB port that would charge it, because I was thinking of jerry rigging up an old charger that had the right voltage but I was afraid that I might get the + or - reversed and something unfortunate might happen!

    Maps

As a member - whenever I click "map it" I see the various caches in the area. I think that there should be a map in the background (like there is on the individual sheets of caches that we either download or print off) so that we can see where the various caches are - not just where they are in reference to each other. Your thoughts?
  16. I used a large mouth soup thermos for my underwater cache. I used a small plastic anchor that we had purchased years ago to hold some underwater hoops in our swimming pool. I then calked the inside of the thermos and the bottom - so that everything except the external lid was water tight. Inside the thermos is the log book and pencil - double bagged. So far it has worked pretty good on the Johnie Cache Revenge.
