  1. The way i have to add waypoints to mapsource is download the files into gsak then upload them into the gps from gsak. Then from mapsource download just the waypoints into mapsource. So in order its: Download from net to GSAK From GSAK to GPS From GPS to Mapsource
  2. I first heard about it when I worked for an internet company out of buffalo Missouri "PIP Internet" and a co-worker mentioned it after I asked him what all he does with his GPS. So he told me the basics and the website so I looked it up got more interested and registered. Its been really good other then I travel and seem to get really busy. I recently upgraded to the Vista Cx and am trying to get use to it. Will be going more now I wonder how him and his wife are doing they are really great people I know his username was something like jaybird or jbird something with J and Bird
  3. i thought maybe it would have been another bug with 2.70
  4. Hmm i'll see if i can get with a local cacher and maybe compare some readings. yea the merry go round was my obviouse spot and my cousin was digging all over and my mom actualy tried feeling under the green as well but she said she couldnt feel anything but that doesnt mean much. I live all the way in republic, mo so maybe a local cacher can double check that one sometime. I had my gps on for 45 min to an hour before we got close to the first cache. Waas is set to always be on. I expect the GPS to be off and even as much as i was off on the round and round cached but great clues would have put me under the merry go round too. I'm leaving for Allen, Tx for a week or 2 on business so I guess i'll have to wait till i get back to get with someone.
  5. I got to really try out my new Vista Cx and am worried that its really far off coordinates and hope there may be some answers of why. My family went to a few caches and the coordinates where off on all 3 of them by a long shot. Started with the Sherwood Cache "GCZTDE" and then did the Round & Round "GCZTDA" and ended with the mammoth spring cache "GCRTTZ" I calibrated the GPS before we left. The 2 cache sites from Jeremy42-08 had different coordinates that i entered and i know i was in the right area but they still put us way off. Here is what I logged. I dont know if you guys can actually help or not but its worth a shot. Also when i put my house coordinates in it actually puts me a little off on the gps as well more of on the corner of the block about 35 yards away give or take. Sherwood Cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...6d-6551767c6287 Round & Round http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d0-599055297895 Mammoth Spring Cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...12-07ae11bed23e i'm using mapsourse 6.12.3 and gps version 2.70. Thanks Guys
  6. That's Alledged rumor to you sir. They haven't yet responded to my email. So when did this turn into a bashing contest? Bashing? The OP quoted Garmin. That moves this discussion beyond rumor. The post I quoted makes the assertion that it is a rumor. That's their alligation. Ok the sir was in line with their post, but bashing? Ok now full blown bashing but theres no point in all the arguments. Just post your responses and everyone can email Garmin and give them your thoughts. I just hate reading the posts of one person trying to smart off to someone else

  8. You can call me the Guinea Pig...we bought a Vista Cx while on vacation in Louisiana and used a Motorola Razor power cord to power it all the way back to Virginia - worked fine. Bill awesome great thanks
  9. yea b/c my mp3 player, digital camera, gps and others have different power levels also.
  10. If it works let me know b/c i have the razr car cig adapter and some wall adapters i would like to use but havent tried it yet. I payed 230 bucks for my vista CX and cant afford to blow it into the sky.
  11. is that from the store or from someone here that has an extra one.
  12. Thats interesting thats what was wrong. Thank You
  13. interesting i have restore defaults restore all map defaults show all show none hide basemap hide americas marine point hide metroguide north america Thats it I have topo installed and I checked what map area "all of missouri" i wanted and transfered it but its not on the list.
  14. oh thats bluechart ok i thought it was just the topo version. I dont have a map segments option I have map setup - General I have map setup - Tracks I have map setup - Points I have map setup - Text I have map setup - Information I have map setup - Marine And none of those have map segments
  15. I have been able to load up a map of missouri, and also show gas stations and everything else. But i see these images on the web like this one but am unable to figure it out. Thats a topo map. I also remember reading someones post about switching to street view and topo view on the vista cx but am unable to find that as well. Does anyone have any idea where or how to do it? And I upload to the gps using the usb cable plugged into the gps. Every time i upload does it overwrite the last map i uploaded? Or does it just use up space and add to the other maps i uploaded? I also cant find an option for this on the gps. Thanks Guys
  16. That just Blows i just bought the Vista Cx too. Maybe I shoulda stayed with my magellan where the software worked great with the gps and they didnt charge you an arm and a legg for updates and stuff. Hmm i'm concerned now.
  17. We tried to remove ours. The funny thing was when we went to remove it, we couldn't find it. It really lives up to its name. What good does it do to remove this shield?
  18. i have a question about that. I hear if you want streets you have to go to the streets screen if you want offroad you have to switch to another offroad screen. So if i have a cach i am going to and i go from street to offroad will the cache stay exactly where its at so it only switches the map itself?
  19. yea it looked pretty bland but i did some more digging and the icons and such dont seem to be too entirely different. Just sucks if i have to actually spend another 100 bucks on another topo program just to load some darn maps.
  20. I thought in another post of mine we started a little off topic about this and well i'm still kind of unclear so i decided to make its own topic. Now Mapsend Topo is from magellan and i really like using this software specially since i paid a lot for it. When i get my Garmin Vista Cx will I be able to use that topo like i did with my Sportrak color gps? Or will I have to go out and buy the garmin topo software? What topo software do you guys use that works with the Vista Cx or equvelant GPS. I currently use MS Streets & Trips, Mapsend Topo USA Then of course Gsak I use streets and trips to plan out a route *trip*. I use topo to cut out a specific area and upload it to my magellan. It would be nice if i can continue to use this software that i use now. I have seen some screenshots of the garmin topo program and it scares me think its really that bad. Unless i saw some bad pictures. I hate to spend another 100+ dollars on more topo software just for a few areas. Thanks Guys (again)
  21. A map is more handy than a compass. You can ge the Venture Cx and have some money left for topo or city navigator. If you have a limited budget that's the way to split the decision. If you have enough funds to cover either GPS...well back to pondering the Compass or Not... LOL Thanks I dont have unlimited funds i wish i did but my wife would kill me. what i used with my magellan sportrak color was MS Streets and trips for route planning and a topo to cut and load maps and upload it to ftp. alont with GSAK. Is city navigator like ms streats and trips? or better? and will any topo program work with the garmen as well?' Right now i'm thinking the Venture Cx and if i need a compass use my regular compass.
  22. You guys have some really great answers and reasons, and every post i read makes me change my mind lol this is obviously a big decision for going with either the vista Cx or the Venture Cx and it all comes down to the compass. on my old one i guess i really never did use it a whole lot. And I guess my regular compass would do just the same if i needed it. I mean most gps units get you within so many feet of the goal. I guess to save money i would go with the venture Cx unless i can see a great price for a vista that i cant pass up ebay has a few vista ones at pretty goo prices. So i will see what other posts are made and i'll be watching prices still
  23. Well i already have this Card and would switch out the card that comes with it and put it in my motorola razr phone. I have several of the usb cables and not sure if i would use the altimeter so it all depends on the compass i guess I mean it was cool on my old gps just to see how high i am lol
  24. yea its kept me pertty good while out in the field
  25. This is the exact reason why I say get the Vista CX. Yea i'm stuck inbetween lol I like to have that option on the gps in case something happens to my handheld compass. Or if something happens to the gps compass i have the handheld in my backpack.
