Way cool!!!
Thanks Geospotter, recieved ours today, they look great. We're planning on wearing ours when we participate in "The Search" on May 4th. We'll probably post some photos after the event.
Thanks again,
Team Misguided.

Let me throw out another angle on this topic.
What if you visit a cache, and you are only the second or third cacher to find it, and it looks like it was pretty sparce on the contents right from the start? This happened to me over the weekend, the container was under a pile of rocks about 30 feet from the side of the road, it contained 5 items, 3 of which looked as if they had been sucked on by an infant and dropped on the ground a few too many times. The other 2 items looked like someone cleaned out the drawers in their bathroom old bathbeads that hadn't seen the light of day in about 4 or 5 years.
I logged it as TNLN, but I know some first time cacher would find this and be very disappointed.
Lost? I'm not lost. At least I don't think I'm lost, well............OK, maybe just a little.

I agree with feedle & Jamie Z, something needs to be done about abandoned caches. There is one near Seattle that has negative posts on the logs about it being soaked, the log entries went back as far as Nov 3rd. Checked the owners profile, his 1st. find was Aug. 7 and his last find was Sep 22, 2001. Obviously he lost interest. I went ahead and did some maintenance and sent the owner and Jeremy an e-mail, as of today I haven't heard from either one. I'll continue to monitor this cache, but it sure would be helpful if I could officially adopt it. Then I could move it to a little bit better spot, where thereis less of chance for someones kid to fall into a fairly swift moving river.

Besides there are more important aspects of this game to worry about, such as convincing the NPS that we're not all evil meadow mashers.
My appologies for quoting myself if its poor ettiquette.
Having read through all the post in this string, I find myself changing my opinions, somewhat. Virtual caches I think are a necessity as far as the National Parks caches go. I am also slightly amused by the "Where's In A Name" cache, but I concede that some guidelines need to be established to prevent the rampent spread of "trash-caches".
I still don't think that any of us are blatant meadow mashers

Hey Worldtraveler & ApK,
when I posted my golden rule statements, I wasn't intending to start such a heated discussion. Although I have enjoyed reading your banter. The point I was trying to make, was that I would hope that someone would be kind enough to fix any problems that they found in my caches, just as I would make an effort to repair any damaged caches that I come across.
BTW, I am inclined to agree with worldtraveler, and IMO Bach's "New" rule sounds a tad anti-social.

Jamie Z,
If you scroll a little further down the page, after the last post, you'll see a drop-down box with the words "Hop-To" on the left of it. All you have to do is click on the "GO" button, and it will take you to the main page of the catagory your in, i.e. -General, or -Getting Started, or whatever.
Just trying to help.

I feel that the "Golden Rule" of life also applies to GEOCACHING. Do unto other's caches as you would have others do unto your caches. I always try to leave something nice for the next person that comes along. And I try to remove items that aren't appropriate, such as candy, and other food items. In one cache I found a used tube of cocoa-butter scented hand lotion, not a food item, but to a critter it would smell just as good, so I removed it.
Another cache I just logged this weekend had entries going back as far as Nov. 3rd. stating that the logbook was so badly soaked that nobody could log their visits. I grabbed a spare notebook and some trash bags, and headed out to fix the problem.
In short, if it ain't right, then make it right.

I've been trying to convince my 5 year old that "treasure hunting" is fun. The few hunts that he has gone on with me, he has had fun, but most of the time if I ask him to go with me, he says "No, I don't wanna, its boring". So I go by myself and when I bring back some cool toy that he wants to play with, I tease him by saying that it's my treasure and that if he wanted something he should have come along with me. After which I ask him if he wants to go with the next time I go so that he can get his own toy to play with, he turns to the TV and says, "No Thanks, its boring".
Sometimes you just can't win.

Wander Lost speaks well for me (she is my wife after all). I would be more than happy to host your "poopers".
Besides, my family supports the COUGS of WSU, not them silly DAWGS.

Now that the price has come down to the affordable range, I think that Team Misguided (Myself,Wander Lost & Lost One) will be signing up. I couln't see spending $150.- for a 5 year old to be bored half an hour after we started.

Originally posted by Rich in NEPA:I, for one, am not convinced that it's such a good idea to allow Geocaches in the Nat'l Parks System, but (and this is important) _not_ for many of the reasons typically cited. Let's face it ... the Nat'l Parks represent such a tiny portion of the lands that are already available to us. The Nat'l Parks are more than familiar to all of us as places of uniqueness and nearly pristine beauty, so much so that we don't need contrived incentives to get us to visit them. What exactly is the point of placing a Geocache in one of them anyway? I see it mostly as a case of "placing caches on a whim."
I for one do not feel that a physical cache is appropriate in any Nat'l Park. Virtual Caches with "Cache In/ Trash Out" being the "physical" part of the cache is the ONLY way to go.
Wear your GEOCACHING logo items i.e. shirts, hats, tattoos, whatever. But also carry the trash sack with you and show the NPS officials that we as cache seekers are trying to make an effort to keep the parks clean and enjoyable for all who visit. And rather than waste time being upset with park rangers and their bosses for not allowing US to place caches in the parks, we should concentrate our efforts on caching in the Nat'l Recreation Areas, which would probably be an easier victory.

I think this is a great idea, especially after the "I Hate I-5 XXV" cache was confiscated by the WA State Police Bomb Squad. I just placed My second cache a couple of days ago, and made sure that I put "Law Enforcement Contact 253-569-XXXX" (phone #) on the outside of the ammo can, just to be sure they call before they destroy it.

When I'm out I usually take the obvious stuff, GPSr, trade items, printouts (so I can have the hints when I am totally perplexed), and my cell phone. The cell phone is great for calling the wife at work when I get off early, to see if there are any new caches posted that I can hit on my way home.
The ONE thing I have to have though is my Wallaby packs. They are better than a backpack and more convienient than a fanny pack.Check them out hereif you're looking for a pack.
I like the idea of the hiking stick, I think I'll have to locate my single ski pole, and start using that.
Lost? I'm not lost. I'm just using creative navagation.....yeah, that's it!
Food and other things that smell like food being placed in caches.

I just visited another cache that was laoded with critter-bait. Why must people put things into caches that smell sweet and tasty (especially to varmints). The first cache I found like this had cocoa-butter scented hand lotion in it and a packaged Pez dispenser with the candy with it. Acouple days/weeks ago yet another pez package, and today we found scented shampoo and a bar of soap. Why don't people understand that if it remotely smells like food, then it shouln't be in a cache.
Sorry for the micro-rant, but does anybody else see this the same way that I do?
