  1. Update. Every time my son sees a bouncy ball in a cache he has to have it. So I stopped by the dollar store today and spent 5 bucks on: 2 bags of 1 dozen bouncy balls. I couldn't resist that one. I have enough right there to last me the rest of the winter dropping 2 or 3 balls in a cache at a time. girly flower power nail polish. 3 Crazy colors in a package. (hey girls cache too) 2 packages of silly putty. So for 5 bucks I got a lot of swag for kids and I feel pretty good about it.
  2. Looks to me like he traded up. In spite the title, my Don't Trade Up cache is intended for exactly this kind of trade tozainamboku = on the ball into his sport cacher Nice catch tozainamboku I always like to keep the stuff I get from the cache containers to put in the next cache. It's not so hard on my wallet this way.
  3. I'm on my first friend. Not sure if he'll get hooked or not. My 3 year old is hooked. So hooked that him and his friend will grab a coat, keys, boots, and hat, (and sunglasses) and go geocaching through the house lol.
  4. Awesome advice. But the first thing that came to my mind was Daffy Duck with his quarter staff (actually it was a buck and a quarter staff, but we won't tell him that) and it made me laff. Not dogging you. Just having fun. IR
  5. VERY COOL!!! I Can't wait to get home and check this out!!! I'm trying to find some in Michigan but all I find are underwater wrecks, any advice?
  6. Anyone have one they would like to sell? IR
  7. My experience is if I create a map file with GPS #1 I can't transfer that map file with GPS #2 because the serial numbers are different. This keeps people from mass producing map files I think. In order for me to load the map file on another GPS I need to plug the GPS (GPS #2) in to my PC, record the new serial number, and then load the map file. I can use the software on multiple Magellan GPSs. Which seems fair although this does not prevent you from putting the map file on everyones GPS.
  8. I use GSAK. When I export the caches to the SD-card, I delete the field "Cache Description Format". Other programs should have similar options. Awesome! Thanks!!
  9. How do you load the waypoints WITHOUT the description?
  10. I had the same problem with my Meridian. You can store 500 WPs, 200 with info (like street names) so make sure you don't have a lot of WPs loaded when you use DirectRoute. I usually load about 125 Geocaches and I can use DirectRoute flawlessly. We may be able to load more, I have not tried yet. IR
  11. *edited* I have nothing intelligent to say
  12. Wouldn't it be great if there was a Blue Tooth connection between your PDA and GPS? I have been pondering that for a while now. I should throw a patent on the idea although, it was probably too late yesterday.
  13. Hi Klemmer, I don't see anything wrong with a "healthy debate". I will lock it down if it does get "out of control". I am interested it what other's have experienced as well. Thanks for your input!!!! Nice guy that DiverMan
  14. Not being a smart @ss and I love kids (they go great with caviar) (no really I am ... err have a 3 year old cacher of my own) but shouldn't a scout know how to use a compass? Another thing to think about, how would you know which kid was going to get lost so you could let him hold the GPS? Don't get me wrong, I like the idea. Although my post may not reveal that. It would be good to have if the whole group got trapped somewhere.
  15. Are they worth buying or do they get stolen alot?
  16. Aheh thanks. That's a great boost for the ego!
  17. See if there is an update for your GPS and then reset the thing and set it outside in the open to "bake" for 20 minutes or so. Make sure you do a FULL RESET and don't move it during that time. This will let your find all the satellites it needs. As far as the button not working what button is it? For a starter GPS it's not a bad unit and if you lose it or break it it didn't cost that much so hey, no worries eh? If the button really doesn't work that may cause you to have a bad experience, unless it's something you would never use anyway, which is why i asked which one is broken. If you need that button don't waste time and contact the seller ASAP. I'm interested in hearing how it turned out. IR
  18. Yes I had that problem before also. I just reloaded the maps on the new GPS. Make sure the correct ESN of the new device is the ESN displayed on the map software (which I think will detect it as soon as you plug the new device in).
  19. I use an HP rx3715. I'm pretty nervous when I take it out but I have had no problems. With winter in Michigan I'm a pretty conservative cacher on the trails. Nothing to treacherous. I do keep it in my inside pocket of my jacket in a leather case. I have never dropped it or submerged it yet this winter.
  20. With DeLorme Street Atlas I could use my laptop, run the software, and plug in my GPSs via the serial cable. It works great but is cumbersome and the battery only lasts about 2 hours on my laptop. Will any map software work with any GPSr or BT GPSr on my PDA? I can buy them both separately fairly cheap if it's as easy as it was with my laptop.
  21. I have been looking for about an hour and haven't seen much. Pharos is the closest to what I want but I really want a kit that would include the software, GPSr, and mounting bracket (and maybe even charge the battery) for the iPaq. Bluetooth or wired. Thanks
