  1. 34 views - no other comments, I guess I'm the only one that thinks this woudl be a good feature
  2. A nice feature to add (IMHO) is the ability to schedule PQ's to run at some future date. I've had several occaisions where we were going on a trip and I setup PQ's in advance, weeks in advance, while planning the trip - but then I have to go back at some point and rerun the PQ so I have the most upto date info and status. Could this be considered in some future enhancement? THe current check boxes for the preceeding week could remain - just add a link for "Future Date" and put in a pick calendar to select the date. Thakns - Mark
  3. I often fumble around when writing HTML code - it would be nice to have a "Preview" button that could be clicked when submitting/editing a cache description - the result could be displayed in a new window. It wouldn't have to show the entire page, just the description. Could it be done?
  4. If your friend is still looking - I have a Whistler GPS 200 that I'm getting ready to put on eBay. It comes with the Complete US map set (2 CD's - West Coast/East Coast), USB cable and 32 MB Flash Memory card. A few draw backs to this unit is that it does not import standard GPX files - it uses a proprietary format rfom Holux (the actual manufacturer) and it only uses HH:MM:SS coord format. Otherwise, it's a great unit. I just took the plunge and bought a Garmin eTex Legend C because I wanted a color unit. Just let me know...
  5. I like Waymarking for points-of-interest and geocaching for the hunt. I do think there are a lot of virtual caches that could be moved over to Waymarking - after all, most virtual caches are pretty much a POI and really don't require much hunting. With Waymarking, you could find a lot locations just by mapping them and without a GPSr - so I think it'll bring a whole new crowd. I think i'll search Waymarking when going on vacation for those interesting/neat places that you would never find in a vacation guide... and keep geocaching for the thrill of the hunt!
  6. I just got a Garmin Legend C (can't believe that I talked my wife in to it ) and I'm overloaded with the documentation... so for all of the current users of the Legend C - can you offer some tips & tricks. I also have the City Select software. Thanks for your responses... Mark
  7. I think it would nice to have more than one "Home Location". It's nice to be able to use the "Search for nearest caches from your home coordinates", but it would be nicer if I could add other locations. For example - we camp, so I could set up coordinates for our favoriate campgrounds and search around them becore we travel - or I could add my work location. I would think 5 locations would be sufficient. Then on the "My Account" page, replace the existing "Search for nearest caches from your home coordinates" with a drop down box to choose the locaiton. Thanks for all that you do with the site... - Mark
  8. Whistler provied a program called WMAP - with it you build map list (lst) files from map card (crd) files. THe crd files are by state and county. So to get all counties for a state, you have to build a lst file to include all of the counties. Once you have the lst file, it can be uploaded to the gpsr through the serial/usb cable (slow) or transfered to a CF card and inserted int the gpsr (faster). Waypoints on the other hand, are only read form internal memory and cannot be placed on the CF card - they can only be downloaded to the gpsr using the serial/usb cable and WMAP program. Thats about it in a nut shell... -Mark
  9. I downloaded GPX Spinner sometime ago and nwo I'm beginning to play with it a little bit and I can't quite figure it out. I've tried a few time to go to www.gpxspinner.com, but it see,s that site is either down or no longer available. Does anyone have any documentation or instructions? Thanks - mark
  10. I can copy maps from my PC to a CF card that goes in to the unit. My problem is automating the transfer of waypoints - rightnow I have to manually enter the waypoints in to the unit directly or in to the included software (WMAP) and then transfer the file to the unit. What I can't do is use a pocket query and covert the file in to a format that will be accepted by the gps.
  11. Well @$#%^& I spoke too soon. I was so happy to get the waypoints transfered... after cycled the power on my unit - the screen came up with strange characters and only part of the screen was visible. After looking at the file in Notepad, I noticed there is a lot of estrainous characters that are different from the regular .wrt files produced by the WMAP. Although the file works with WMAP, it craps out on the unit itself. Back to the research...
  12. Wow - after 5 months I finally found a solution to importing waypoints in to my Whistler Galileo GPS200 - although most of you will say "big deal", you just don't understand the frustration. For those that understand... Here's what you do - you need 2 pieces of software - 1 GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) which you can download from Geocaching.com - 2 oziConvertData.exe, which you can find here http://www.holux.com.tw/Temp%20web/downloa...ConvertData.zip Download your LOC or GPX files from Geocaching and open them in GSAK, then export them to oziExplorer format (.wpt) - I chose to use SmartNames (%smart) and for the cache descriptions format I chose (%con) for Container. Then open oziConvertData and convert the .wpt file to .wrt and import it to your unit. Voila - you now have your waypoints. Sure save a lot of time when compared to manually entering them in to WMAP or the unit itself. Hope this helps you out! - Mark BTW - this should also work with Holux and Alan GPS units since they are all the same.
  13. I just run PQs for he area that I want, then converted using GSAK to a cvs file and upload it to MS S&T. then I can search from a single point for a raduis of x miles, or map a route and find all with in x miles anywhere along my route. Takes a few steps, but it works!
  14. I tlooks like the 1024 x 768 is wrong again... it's actually 1365 x 1024. Can you correct his? Thanks - I love the monthly wallpaper.
  15. hairymon I download all of my maps using a CF card reader - I bought one the 8-n-1 readers and use it for my digital camera as well, so the only thing that I use the direct connect for is to transfer Waypoints. I know that when you download a new waypoint file, it over writes the previous file - so i would assume the same for maps. If I could just automate the process of adding waypoints - I would be happy.
  16. hairymon - My GPS 200 is working pretty well - in fact a little bit better now that I did the firmware update. This is my second unit - the first took 10 mins to acquire sats and calculate location, if at all. Whistler replaced it and said it had a weak antenna. The 2 biggest draw backs so far are the fast that it only shows degree/min/sec (not standard for geocaching) and the lack of converting loc files. I've tried several possibilities, but you can only upload from thier mapping program - if oyu haven't tried yet, you cannot copy the wrt file that is created to a mem card and expect the GPS unit to read it, the file has to be uploded in to the unit using the USB/Serial cable. For a under $100 unit, I think I got my money's worth. - Mark
  17. I have a Whistler GPS 200, it is sized about the same as a eTrex. Thanks for everyones responses
  18. I've been looking for a way to mount my GPS on my bicycle securely. I haven't been able to find an aftermarket one, so I thought I would post here for any suggestions - someone out there has got to have one or modified something to work. Any suggestions?
  19. We are planning a trip to OBX from N of Charlotte and I was looking for places to drop a few TBs off on the way. Is there any way I can search for casches along a route? I've tried by searching zips & area codes but the criteria is too broad and I'm having to look through too many results. Thanks, Mark
