  1. And what does one do, if she checks the spot and there is one? Besides change her pants when she gets back to the RV?
  2. Ok, I live in Missouri, and I have been coming in sight of snakes here while caching....albeit, non venomous ones, but not my favorite site. I have been known to leave a cache area with hopes of returning to it in winter time. I am leaving in a few days for the Grand Canyon and all the desert lands. So many of the cache descriptions warn of rattle snakes...this is starting to wig me out. Does one come in contact with them often? Is there a primer on how to contend with one? My knowledge of rattle snakes is that what television and such have taught me.....and fear of the unknown.
  3. Nope, I can't get one done that has 5 legs. I just get the ones closest to where I am....if I eventually get them all, I might go for the grand cache. 51? The States and DC or the States and PR?
  4. Nice quality time for the family.....glad it's a positive experience.
  5. Yes, what they said. Now I learned a lesson, just because it has the TB icon next to the cache name DOES NOT always mean the TB is in there. I leave a note, not a find.
  6. Did you not think of geo-caching in today's gospel? I couldn't help but chuckle to myself that Jesus was geo-caching long before satellites. Well, I better stop now before I get a little sacreligious.
  7. I like to look at them square in the face, and say "Boo!". Then there is always the fallback of wearing a bright orange jumpsuit like those issued at the state penitentiary.
  8. Since my young sons geocache with me, and they want credit for the TB, I typically log it (picked up). But my sons each "grab" it from me so they get credit in their stats...got too keep them happy as well.
  9. Ok, I tried this, however, you have to have MapSource already....darn, never get anything for free anymore.
  10. Not if you buy a starter set at Target...it comes with a video and a case. I exchanged that for the set-up that Bass Pro was selling...only the unit and the cord.
  11. Those are great, and the frog would be even neater!! If you're going to do these, please make sure you put them in individual plastic bags....it disappoints me to find a neat item that has gotten damp or dirty. Great cache item.
  12. Almost always....and I also pan the logs and jot down the hints I find in there as well. For some reason, I don't find caches as easily as other people. Maybe I over think them or something....I need all the help I can get.
  13. I currently am holding: Bungee Cords Peace Sign Mardi Gras beads Premium Mardi Gras beads Ladies dress pins Patriotic pins
  14. Oh, forgot to add....I always let my sons play in the playground for a little while....but AFTER we find the cache.
  15. OT: I love the people who buy SUVs around here for "bad weather.".... Case in point; We had a bad ice/snow storm on a Saturday night, our church usually has around 500 people in it, only about 35-40 came. When we went outside after Mass, there was only one SUV in the bunch!!!! All passenger cars except for 2 vans. Irony. Oh well, back to the topic. I have always tried to keep my car trips down to minimum levels mostly for environmental reasons, but will continue due to costs. Amazing what you can get done on a bike!
  16. Hmmmm..great question, I thought I was holding it flat so my sons could watch the arrow, but I do it even when nobody else is around.
  17. I am still quite new at this....let me tell ya, you will know a run down cache when you find it. I cleaned one out about 10 days ago...broken christmas bulbs, miscellaneous pony beads, broken this and that and even an unwrapped bandaid. Maybe it wasn't my job, but it was terrible. You have the right idea. But I must warn you, it can get discouraging, it is for me anyhow, that some people just don't value the "trade equal or up" idea. Also, be aware that just because a cache says there is a travelbug, doesn't necessarily mean there is one. Just think of them as a bonus when you find one. And don't forget, there is the option of "take nothing, leave nothing, sign the log" otherwise known as TNLNSL. Make it fun for your daughter....that's where you will get your real reward. Enjoy, now go out and look for some really neat out of the way places, historical places and great scenery.....God made a beautiful world.
  18. I, too, am in an area that nickel nonsense is the norm. Meaning, I wouldn't pay a nickel for some of this stuff. I have been putting out ladies pins in little silk bags as swag, the other day, I noticed someone took one of the pins and left a fishing bobber!!!!!! ONE BOBBER, not a package of them. ONE BOBBER. How do people live with themselves? Grant it, I know the value of the pin was worth more than most swag, but ONE BOBBER? Geez, the silk bag was worth more than the bobber. For the men, I have been leaving a package of 6 bungee cords....they're a dollar at the dollar store for the set of 6, not the strongest, but I bet they would come in handy in a pinch! I would be thrilled to find just one bungee, instead of a plastic pig from a 100 piece farm set that they paid a buck for! To these people....I say "TNLNSL". I think I need to geocache in the KC area, they are always bragging of good stuff in their caches.
  19. Along with the truck drivers, which I have a great admiration for since we RV a lot and find them to be helpful and entertaining, I would love to join this type ad hoc group. We have a pretty decent size rig of 44' and a tow, so you just can't pull in anywhere. Right now we have a trip to the Grand Canyon planned, and all my husband would commit to is one in each state, and it better be close to the interstate!!! Oh well, one is better than none. Also: Hmm.....heard of LW Dairy?
  20. A mom here as well, and a scrapbooker.....Just a great group of people here!! Used to be a soccer mom. I am also a Webelo Scout leader. I really need to figure out how to make all this tax-deductible.
