  1. I have a couple of out of the way uses..... I like to bicycle in Japan, especially in rural areas.... and would never even attempt it without my trusty companion.... (not a whole lot of English out there...) and I use it in large foreign cities for general direction and navigating back to a location... such as a subway... This works well so I don't look TOO much the tourist staring at maps and all, and even in Asian cities like Hong Kong and Shanghai. with the tall buildings, there is enough reception to get by...
  2. Thanks for that PDOP's!!!! That is kind of what we'd thought anyhow.... I guess we were just hoping!!!
  3. Sorry Stan (night pilot) I didn't see your reply before I posted.. Bartongang
  4. Just a quick additional note.... (from a guy who navigates for a living) The farther North and West you get in North America (at least till 65 or so north) the greater the difference between magnetic and true north. In the area of Calgary Alberta (Great Falls Montana) the difference is approx 25 degrees, while say Toronto Ontario (Buffalo NY) is around 5 degrees... Most people relate to true north naturally, as it just makes more sense, SOOOO I would suggest setting things up for true and avoiding any confusion.... Cheers
  5. Hi everyone.... We (the three kiddies and me) are VERY new, but entirely loving this 'sport'. We actually tried a couple of hunts without GPS (due unfortunately to financial constraints....) but after a fair amount of frustration.... we found a Lowrance iFinder at a local pawnshop. The problem is, (and I know we don't NEED maps) the unit came with a U.S. database.... Like I said..... I know we don't need maps, but, as this unit does support them I was just hoping!!!! Does anyone know where we might be able to locate mapping for Canada that isn't going to break the bank???? Thanks very much folks... 'the bartongang'
