  1. And it was not archived because?? The owner is not doing maintenance on it. They haven't logged in since September 23rd and there was need maintenance logs and shoud be archived logs. The cache may be there but the maintenance part is not being done. You left a note. What prompted Superfly's archiving, I saw no need's maintenance logs on the page and he seems to do maintenance. How many emails from someone that can't find my cache is enough, for it not to be there?
  2. Nomex did not lock the page when he archived it. It was locked at a later date by DeRock because people were inappropriately using the cache page as a forum. It should be noted that since SF/TDE received an email each time one of these posts were made, he was aware of the discussion on the cache page. He could have easily popped in and posted evidence that the cache did exist or invite the posting cachers to meet him at the cache site to prove it's existence. It would have been a convenient forum to use to exonerate himself. I popped over to the cache page to discover that SF/TDE did know that the discussion on the cache page was happening. In fact, he was busy fanning the flames. Still, he elected not to offer a show of proof that the cache did, in fact, exist. You are right he asked how to appeal, and all the locals that posted believed the cache was there and wanted to know why it was archived. I would tend to side with the locals, who know the hider. 18 pages into this thread and Groundspeak has not offered up anything as to why it was archived, or apologized for the manner in which it was archived. I agree it is rude to call a cacher a liar and then hide behind the privacy screen. If the shoe was on the other foot and someone said Groundspeak was going bankrupt and didn't offer proof, would everyone say well they must be, it is up to them to prove they aren't.
  3. Perhaps they can't do that because of a need to protect the source of that "extra information?" I think they gave up protecting the source, when they called(implied) the CO was a liar.
  4. I see a few possibilities here: 1) He wasn't lying and the cache was really there. - Groundspeak probably wouldn't have said and done the things they've done. They don't archive caches that haven't been found in years on a regular basis, right? Anyone heard of this being done before? There are several examples of long time unfound caches given in this thread and GS hasn't archived those, so they apparently don't have a new policy in effect. There was plenty of time for the cache owner to give GS a picture, or somehow prove the cache was in place before this train wreck got to the forums. I'm just curious why he didn't? 2) He was totally lying, but GS has no proof. - If for some reason they've been given reason to suspect that the cache was gone but didn't know for sure, it seems like they'd have the local reviewer ask for verification (A picture, or description in a reviewer note, or something). This isn't what happened as far as I know. 3) He was totally lying and GS knew he was. - If he was lying about it and was just hiding a cache for the sole purpose of collecting as many DNFs as possible, and somehow GS found out about it (I wouldn't begin to know how they would), I'd hope that they'd definitely archive it asap. Would there be any benefit to GS to comment publically about how they found out and show what a tool the cache owner was? It doesn't seem like something they'd do either. Any public angst was brought on by the hider himself at this point. I don't know which of these is the truth, but one of them seems much more likely to me than the others. 1) Groundspeak owes him an apology 2) Groundpseak owes him an apology 3) Groundpseak owes him an apology, unless they can explain how they determined he is a liar. I would like to see someone from Groundspeak either defend their actions or apologize for them.
  5. A'Yup. The tide is going out, ain't it? The issue for me is the way the cache was archived, and Groundspeak's response to the appeal. A simple response that it was a form letter, would have nipped this in the bud, or perhaps "Whoops maybe I hit the archive button to fast". Then the letter from Jenn calling him a liar again, and not offering up how she came to this decision. I would like to know how Groundspeak came to that decision, and a threat of being banned for appealing the cache being archived. I don't appreciate, Groundspeak calling anyone a liar, and not backing up the claim.
  6. I disagree, they are a listing service and can archive a cache when they feel like. To call a paying member a liar, requires an explanation, or cause for the statement.
  7. SHELTER III had over 160 DNF's before it was found Groundspeak called the cache owner a liar!! Once on the cache page ,and then again in a letter to the cache owner. Is that acceptable? I would like to see the proof there is no cache, they called him a liar, it is up to them to stand behind their claim.
  8. I am very dissapointed with Groundspeak's actions and would hope they publicly apologize to Superfly. Calling him a liar on the cache page and then again in the forums. Sounds like a great set up for a cache. If Groundspeak knowingly published the cache without a container being present, then I would hope Groundspeak apologizes to the community as a whole for being part of it. Either way Groundspeak has botched the handling of this.

  12. 6 are still unpublished?? How did you find them? Wouldn't that be testing it for the owner? Wrong topic. Use the "other" topic for debating whether it's testing or not. This is the SCORE topic. Thanks. I have "SOME" FTF's and "SOME" Finds, so I am 100%. I think that is pretty darn good

  15. Last year the Bruce Trail and KEEN Canada launched the Boots on the Bruce program. The program generated donations based on the number of people that snapped and submitted images of them on the Bruce Trail. Bruce Trail enthusiasts posted over 11,000 Boots on the Bruce submissions and KEEN Canada gave the Bruce Trail $50,000 to help the us secure more Escarpment land. Program Dates - May 1 - October 31, 2009 How to participate in the Boots Across Canada program 1. Enjoy some time on any Ontario trail. This year the program is open to all trails, not just the Bruce Trail. All trail submissions taken on an Ontario trail, will generate a donation for the Bruce Trail Conservancy. 2. Take a photo of your boots (or shoes!) on any Ontario trail. 3. Visit www.keencanada.ca and upload a photo. 4. For every pair of boots (shoes) taken on an Ontario trail, KEEN Canada will donate $5 to the Bruce trail. One picture with 1 pairs of boots (shoes)=$5 donation from KEEN. One picture with 10 pairs of boots (shoes)=$50 donation from KEEN. For more information (link removed.)
