  6. What would this be used for? It would actually put the quad map on yer GPSr screen. Its not as big as it sounds Dimensions: · Length: 5.25 Inches · Height: 1.75 Inches · Width: 2.25 Inches (front), 3.25 Inches (back) the referenced screen size was COMPARABLE to a 17"@ 3' "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." 7. I looked in my old 12 manual and didnt see any mention of any way to change it...I think you can still get a downloadable copy of the manual at garmins web page. On my G3+ it changes automaticly at .1miles to feet (~500') "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com
  8. Rather depends on where the cache is located...out in the middle of the desert here you could fill a cache with Hersey Bars and the rattlers and scorps would careless. HOWEVER.... it would be rather messy in Aug. Now if you added some grahm crackers and marshmellows.... SMORES! 11. I use my G3+ and my laptop with National Geo TOPO! in the Jeep for offroading and Geocaching all the time. This site has excellent mounts for just about anything. 12. Havent tried it but heres the GPSr you want (from a previous thread) its not released yet and was priced at something like $650 at a half off special. http://www.navitrak.com/handheld.html]see this "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." 13. As an alternative...if this is a one shot thing, pack a laptop along with Easy GPS loaded and do a screen capture, change it to a .jpg file, put it on a floppy and have it developed as a print....but of course youd need a laptop and a digital camera would cost much less. 14. I have the 3+ and the accurracy is usually about 10-15' in optimum conditions ( clear view of the sky in all directions ) It drops some in heavy tree cover or deep canyons ( say to 45' ) The 2 units are so simular Id expect you should see the same. As far as averaging....cant help ya ...I just plain dont use it! It should be an excelent unit for geocaching and I would also suggest the cable... allows upload of latest firmware from Garmin as well as waypoint upload with Easy GPS (free) and numerous other things if one spends enuf money. I see your a desert dweler as well, if you need anything else feel free to email me direct. "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." 15. I use National Geographic TOPO!. Works great for topo applications because its based on USGS topos. Its zoomable to 1:24000 and has excellent detail. Also manages waypoints and routes, has elevation and route elevation profile and is capable of live tracking (on a laptop) works great for offroading and getting close to a cache. Not real great for city use as the maps arent that up to date, but my G3+ maps are fine for that. It is pricey (about 100$ a state) but weel worth it. 18. Considering that the BLM in Az and Ut condones if not promotes OHV use in many areas I think it would seem rather silly that they would universally ban geocaching...perhaps its just BLM administured refuges and wilderness areas....which seems proper to me anyway. 19. You can do this using National Geographic TOPO!GPS and the appropriate NG Topo! area map. I have done this in the past but I know have it loaded on my laptop and actually live track as I drive. Then when I leave the vehicle I disconnect the GPSr and save the track of the hike then upload that later and you have the complete route...The software is a bit pricey though...about 100$ per state. 23. All Garmin receivers show xxd xx.xxxm and all have averaging I beleive, I know my 12 and 3+ do. You can get info for Garmins at http://www.garmin.com "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com
  24. OK seriosly, perhaps place a few caches in the area with raffle tickes in them and then have a raffle at a certain time for some prizes...simple stuff or good stuff if you can get donations....I wouldnt post them as real caches....just show up and get the co ords and clues...the harder the cache the better the prize....Now how do you keep the 1st dishonest person from taking all the tickets...oh well just a thought...
