  1. I have relatively few finds right now and I haven't vetured towards micros as of yet. However, I did tell myself that I would look for at least 20 min and if I didn't find it I would use the hint. I have always found it after having to use the hint but if I still couldn't find it after say another 30 minutes I would probably get away from it and try again another time.
  2. I believe that a Charter member is a member who signed up at the conception of the forums. They were the first ones to join.
  3. This was one of my concerns. Thank you for explaining it. I think I will just bite the bullet and use the Tungsten I have now and pray It will hold up. I have it in a metal case so it will be pretty durable if it gets dropped. Thanks for all the replies and help.
  4. I own a Tungsten E2 which I know would work just fine for caching. However, I don't want to take it out in the wild for fear I will lose it. My whole life is in there right now and if I lost it or broke it I would be in some serious hurt. I was thinking about buying a cheaper Palm like a Zire22, M515 or something else I can find for a little less money and just use it strictly for caching. Do any of you Palm users have two; one for caching and one for everyday life? And, if so does it work well for you? Thanks in advance
  5. I and my wife have a Tungsten E2 and I love it. I haven't cached with it yet (a little scared to take it out in the wild) but I'm sure with cahemate and other programs out there it will work fine. Palm makes a metal hard case that would hold up pretty well. The Tungsten is relatively inexpensive for all it does. I think you will be happy with it. Good luck. edit: spelling
  6. I received a Garmin Etrex(yellow) for Christmas about two years ago. It set for a few months before I found geocaching. They are really pretty user friendly(the basic functions anyway). You'll have a blast doing this and as you can see from the previous posts, people here are very friendly and helpful. Good luck.
  7. If they lie around long enough the field mice and beetles will get to them. That's acually how a lot of hunters "clean" their deer skulls; They bury them for a few weeks and let the bugs clean them right up.
  8. If you decide to look around at other forums, no matter what subject they are based around, there will be discussions, opinions, arguments, resentment, anger, etc. As said before, we are human afterall and that is what happens when humans get together. It's what seperates us from the animal world. That, and the use of cutlery. I think you will find the people on this forum to be helpful and friendly in general. However, there maybe times when they will disagree with you and each other. That's life. I think that was Frank Sinatra who said that.
  9. I was thinking about placing a cache in my local park. There is a river right by it with some wooded area and I think I can place a decent one there. What's the best way to ask permission? I would probably have to go to City Hall and ask and I want to be somewhat prepared. Should I bring along the brochures that explain the game? How have you all dealt with this in the past? How have people reacted when you ask them? Thanks
  10. I found my first traditional cache this way. I looked for probably about 5 minutes around the same spot(where my GPSr was pointing) and then happened to look down a few yards and shazam there it was. A perfectly stamped down trail. I've always read that you should do all you can to keep the cache site hidden but sometimes it just can't be done I suppose.
  11. I think it's a great idea. I would love to find a good book in a cache as long as I had something to trade for it. I have a book and a children's Disney CD in my mess of swag. I haven't dropped them off but I would suspect someone would want them.

    Kansas

Extreme Southeast Kansas. Baxter Springs. I can spit and hit Oklahoma and Missouri. Not that I would. That would be disgusting and... oh sorry.
  13. Everyday. Wait, what is today? No, that's right. Everyday.
  14. Okay. I could curse myself for ever reading this post at all. I actually, maybe, kinda, might, could want to see this movie now. "Goin on a GPS hunt. Me and Andrew." Come on everybody join in. "Goin on a GPS hunt." AHHHHHHH!!!
  15. I actually think I saw one there the other day. Try here
  16. Thank you all for the great stories and tips. It really sounds like LEO's are very cool about it. It's definately eased my tensions about the whole thing. I'm going to print out some of the brochures to keep on hand just in case I have to expain it to someone. Perhaps I can even introduce someone to the game.
  17. I just wanted to confide some of my worries. I have only a handful of finds but I really enjoy geocaching. I think it is a great way to see new places and to get outdoors. I just started reading the forums again and I find there are a lot of articles about caches being seen as a threat to those who do not know what they are. I have read about how to deal with muggles in the event they ask us what we are doing. I, myself, have made up my mind to tell the truth, especially to the authorities. However, I don't want to be hauled in and questioned about something that is as harmless as geocaching. In my area, I feel law enforcement truly would not understand if I tried to explain it to them. One of my first finds was a cache hidden in a woodline along the side of a highway. I took my, at the time, 3 year old son with me. The whole time I was thinking what must be going through people's heads who saw me park along the side of the road, get a young child, out of the backseat, and disappear into a bunch of thick trees. Anyone would consider it strange around here. I guess what I'm trying to get at is should I really worry so much about it or should I simply just cache on and cross that bridge when I get there. I don't want to be the one who ruins it all for everyone else by getting pulled in and a whole big scene erupts over a little tupperware container. I really want to get more involved in this sport but am a little fearful in this post 911 world of ours. Thanks for your time. Neurotically yours Torchbearer
  18. I think this is why people on this forum would get upset. This guy may have said all of that about driving his jeep over bushes as tongue in cheek but the reporter would just want "juice" for his story and would take it out of context. I'm sure this guy is a hoot to be around when caching but I feel he could have chosen his words better.
  19. I agree that the hider of the cache should have told the police of his other caches. However, my worry now is that with this publicity some actual nut job is going to get the bright idea to actually put a bomb in one. I guess this is what "terror" is supposed to do; make us fearful of everything.
  20. I was just wondering if there were any Kansas geo groups I could join. I actually live in the very Southeast corner of the state and am a stones throw away from Oklahoma and Missouri. I've done some searches but haven't come up with anything local. This is a fun hobby to enjoy alone but I would sure like to meet some other cachers locally. Thanks in advance.
  21. Please let us know if anyone ever finds it. Aside from you of course. Nice avatar by the way.
  22. Thanks so much!!! I'm going to hit the Doller General today. I've never really been in there much and didn't realize they had so much. Thanks a million.
  23. I've read of several people doing this and it seems to work best.
