  1. Who wait until they get home?!?! I read these at work..all day long!
  2. Congrats to everyone. Still waiting...it's nice and warm here. Though maybe too warm for a trench coat. Still in the 90s and it's almost Halloween! Go figure!
  3. Congratulations to all the recents, and the pictures are hilarious! I think it's still too hot here for the pumpkin...it was in the mid 90s today! I think our pumpkin melted..<SIGH>
  4. Congrats to all the latest. I got to see the one that Nero got. I'd love to add one to my collection...
  5. Congrats to all the latest. Cool stories, and I agree that I think the pictures of the kids are the best!
  6. Contrats to all the latest finders. Lucky beasties all of you!
  7. Congrats Cav Scout and 3Doxies! And welcome to the "finder's club".
  8. He's been quite all around recently. So I'm trying to keep my profile to a minimum, you know, keep off the radar just in case he needed to stop by in Az for some reason...
  9. Now that's a funny picture! Thanks D@nim@l! And congratulations to all the lucky recipients thus far.
  10. One of these coins would look great here in Az. And of course I'd be more than happy to be it's keeper! If one would so desire...
  11. I haven't REALLY planned a route yet, I just did a quick google maps from my house to there, and adjusted it to go through DV and YNP. I didn't even look at the roads to tell the truth. I'll look for your email, we can really start to hash this out. Not to hijack the thread completely, but anyone else interested in joining? PM one of us and we'll see where people can join up for the ride.
  12. Congratulations to all recent finders. Still sitting here in my dry pumpkin patch in Arizona. Weather is getting much nicer though! Only into the 80s recently.
  13. You're on now! At this time, I'm intending to take the bike. I'll likely leave Friday AM and detour through 2 major national parks (so I can get pins for my vest of course) and arrive some time Saturday. Sunday is the event, then Monday make a beeline home and collapse for the night and go to work on Tuesday! The route there from my house through Death Valley and Yosimite is about 1,000 miles. Back will be under 900 (or pretty close).
  14. That's too bad TGF, but I understand your reasoning and don't blame you at all. It's too bad that a few can spoil the fun and enjoyment of a large number of people.
  15. Congrats to all the recently bitten. And the good news, this bug doesn't carry West Nile!
  16. Congrats to all. A very cool coin! 23 days to Halloween...23 day to coax the Great Geo Pumpkin to Az.
  17. Doh, teach me to just browse the thread, just went back and actually READ the whole thing. Forget the question about the pumpkin, but let me add.. I BELIEVE TOO! I was always willing to sit with Linus and wait for the Great Pumpkin. Of course I wouldn't mind if Snoopy kept me company. The warmth of a great dog in the cool hours of the morning can make waiting for the Great Pumpkin bearable!
  18. Oooohhhhh!!! Can't wait to see that one!! Some very cool coins, I didn't realize there were so many different ones out there. I've got V1 and V2 of The Geocoin Fairy's coins, a red and blue easter egg and the G. O'Coin B.U.G. coin. I knew about the pot of gold and the secret agent coins. But that mickey diver is VERY cool! Now I have to ask...what's with the brass slug? Looks like a freeze plug. Where did those come from? And now you're talking about one that hasn't even been released? How did you find out about a "secret" coin that's not out yet? Or is it out and I just missed it (yeah, I so in the loop <sigh>)?
  19. Thanks all, and good luck to all those hoping to get bit still!
  20. Now THAT is tempting! I'll have to think about it, but don't hold your breath. These are one of the few coins I buy, and that's because of my heritage. Both of my mothers parents came from Czechoslovokia, so Czech or Slovok stuff needs to be obtained.
  21. Well, I read this thread when it first started, found it kind of cool, but had no way of receiving one of these coins. So I've never read it again. Then today there was in my mailbox an envelope to me, from me. Hmmm..I showed my daughter who was standing next to me and she got this puzzled look on her face. I told her I think someone sent me a coin. Her thoughts..."That's wierd" Hehe..go figure! So I open it up and low and behold, it's a G. O'Coin B.U.G. Esquire coin and card. I have NO idea where you got my address, but thank you so much! It went straight into my collection! Thank you thank you thank you!
  22. Sounds like you're getting there. My best suggestion: Use Macro mode Use a tripod Back up (you don't need the camera right on top of the coin, even in macro mode) Use low light (get rid of "hot spots") Turn that flash OFF Use manual exposure to get enough light into the camera Shoot in max size that is not interpolating the image, and preferable a lossless format (TIFF instead of JPG) White balance (auto WB is usually crap) Edit for color correction in Photoshop Crop to the coin and resize if necessary I use an old Epson PhotoPC3000z and take great photos of coins with it. I've even devised a way to take photos of those REALLY SHINY coins with minimal editing, but it's still a PITA.
  23. Sorry to hear about that, hope you are all doing well now. I've know people to have miscarriages and still continue to have a happy family.
  24. I suppose a quick spray of clear coat should take care of this problem, but would it yellow with age or affect the finish in the long run? Just thoughts.
