  1. We took this one yesterday while hunting for this cache. We guessed the wrong trail and stumbled upon this view
  2. We saw this modified stop sign on our way to a cache last weekend. It says "STOP EVIL" for those of you who are having trouble deciphering it from the lousy angle we got of it from our car
  3. Good thinking, no-one would remember Karen&Jake. The new one is much easier I was thinking the same thing! Karen & Jake pretty much spells things out. Just curious, how did you come up with your new name? Well, Jake is a code monkey (always writing computer code for his job) and knows a lot about computers (both software and hardware). I've also written code myself to run some statistics programs. We also frequently use leetspeak for fun, so it made sense to include it in our username -Karen
  4. Good thinking, no-one would remember Karen&Jake. The new one is much easier Yeah, it is hard to read/understand if you aren't familiar with leetspeak. It translates to "leet haxorz" or "leet hackers" depending on how leet you're feeling when you say it But it suits us. -Karen Disclaimer: the above link is provided because it gives a nice breakdown of most of what is involved in leetspeak...it makes some inaccurate assumptions about who uses it and who doesn't know what it is. It originated with computer hackers.
  5. We just changed our username a few days ago (used to be Karen&Jake). We changed the avatar at the same time so it was an extreme account makeover. But we're fairly new so I doubt anyone was confused
  6. Well, we just went through an extreme account makeover that involved changing our username from Karen&Jake to L337 H4X0Rz (pronounced "leet haxorz" for those of you not familiar with leetspeak). This was our avatar: We thought it was cute how it looked like Piglet was looking for a cache, but it didn't go with the new name. Our new avatar reflects our name better. Besides, we've always found this image pretty funny Here is a larger version:
  7. Our above post makes absolutely NO sense now that we have changed our user name from "Karen&Jake" to "L337 H4X0Rz" (pronounced "leet haxorz"). I said Karen&Jake was boring and that we would probably change it, so you were warned Our new user name is mostly in leetspeak and is a reference to the fact that Jake is a code monkey (I've done a little coding myself too), plus we thought it sounded a lot cooler than Karen&Jake. -Karen
  8. Welcome! And go Boilers!
  9. According to "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Geocaching" it was hidden by Dave Ulmer.
  10. I use Firefox and I've never had any problems. -Karen
  11. Ours is rather self-explanatory. Normally, I try to go by "piglet" or some variation of that, but since I wanted Jake to feel like part of the "team" and that he wasn't just accompanying me on my quests (as getting us involved in geocaching was all my idea), I decided to include him in the name. It is rather boring though and we may change it one day -Karen
  12. They mean "Thanks for the cache" and "Thanks for the hide," respectively.
  13. Awesome! We use Firefox and some of the extensions, but didn't know about that one. Download commencing... -Karen
  14. As a newbie, I have found lurking to be quite educational, and frequently entertaining...a very good combo -Karen
  15. I didn't see this one while geocaching, and didn't have a camera ready, but my favorite sign has always been the deer crossing sign I saw while driving with my family across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel in the summer of 1984 on one of the middle bridge sections. I love the mental imagery of a deer leaping out of the bay onto the bridge and back into the bay -Karen
  16. We ordered the Garmin GPSmap 60CS.
  17. We were trying to purchase our first GPS unit the other day and thought we would see what Wal-Mart had in stock. We did not find any in electronics (the electronics guy had never heard of GPS) or sporting goods (no employees in sight to ask), so we asked someone at the customer service desk to direct us to where they might be found. This employee had never heard of GPS either and when we tried to explain it to her, she said, "Oh, that sounds like stationary...try looking there." Needless to say we got quite a chuckle out of that, and thought you might as well. We ended up just ordering one online and are now eagerly awaiting its arrival so we can find our first cache
