  2. I too will be in Las Vegas for the races. Last year was my first year there as a geocacher and I hit a few of the geocaches that were close to the track. Naturally, I plan to hit a few more this year. Is there a potential for an Event Cache this year or at least a get-together? Last year was the first year for the races for us too, but we weren't caching yet hopefully this year will be warmer, it was bitter last year! I haven't heard of an event down there yet. They should do something! I read on GBES that your March trip has been cancelled, too bad. Is anyone else going to be in Vegas for the races. I know of at least one other geocacher from San Diego that will be there and we plan on hitting a few caches around the track. It would be great to get together with other geocachers and at least share a brew.

Yikes! (well, ok, I did need the key right there and.. I actually TRIED to click Decrypt first ) Is it a big thing that I only needed the key to decrypt the last word?

  8. My current favorites are Caliente Mountain Goat and SECHTS . Caliente Mountain Goat because it was one of my first caches and I had no idea what a 3.5/4 entailed but I did it. SECHTS is a favorite because I had been swimming at Panaca Springs countless times, but had never been tempted to climb the nearby hill. My wife and I had a wine and cheese picnic at the springs and then went up the hill. We found the cache shortly before sunset and then we sat and watched the sun go down, enjoying the sunset, the after effects of the wine, and the happiness of our fourth FTF of the day. Everything just combined to end a perfect day and a great Homecoming weekend.
  9. You're right. I am currently located in San Diego County, California, but I also have some property in Elko County, Nevada that I hope to be occupying in the near future. I was hoping to follow the goings-on in Nevada through this thread. I know there are forums for GBES and NGA but one forum is about all I have time for and right now Groundspeak is it. I plan on being back in Elko this summer and I hope to hit either 10,000 or Slick-50 while I'm there. 10,000 is still waiting for its first find.

  13. I have been lurking in the forums for some time and I have met quite a few of you at events. Here are my adventures from yesterday. So after talking with Robyn of Team Reid at the "2nd Annual Christmas Lights Geo-Walk", my wife says it might be fun to geocache along the Bradshaw Trail when the kids are all home for Christmas. We have a Saturn Vue SUV so it should not be a problem. We decided to go from east to wast and count down the caches as we find them. We get up at 6:00 AM and and are on the road by 7:00 driving to Blythe. We log the first cache, #25, at 11:42 AM and we are off and running. We hit the first snag when I was driving and the navigator was having problems with the GPS. We drive right by LOST and in the process drive right by #21. We are only .15 miles past #21 and I want to turn around and get it. My wife is having none of that. I'm thinking the whole purpose of this trip is to find the Bradshaw Trail caches and I am willing to let LOST go (I didn't know at the time it was a possible FTF) but I want #21. She finally concedes to one "go back", but if we pass another, that is it. Anyone who has heard her talk about my incident in the Geo Metro convertible, knows she is serious and means that is it for geocaching this trip, not that one missed cache. We go back and get #21 and find the rest of the caches without incident. We skipped a couple of non-Bradshaw caches because I don't want to press my luck and get put on geocaching restriction again. The boys have fun climbing on the rocks and my daughter takes pictures all along the way. We found #1 at 5:10 PM and start for home. It has been a fun day. The directions from Google say to turn right on Coachella Canal Road and go 6.8 miles to Das Palmas Spring Road. It is DARK and somehow both the driver and the navigator (I was neither) miss the turn and continue on Coachella Canal Road. We know we have been on this road for too long but don't see any other choice but to continue when we hear a familiar rumble from the left side of the SUV. We have a flat tire. I change the tire and put on the temporary spare, you know, the half a tire, that comes standard now and I take over driving. We drive on Coachella Canal Road, on the temporary spare, for another 4 miles until we hit pavement just south of Mecca. We make it to Indio and all the tire places are closed. We are still 130 miles from home. We get something to eat and continue on home to San Diego, hoping the temporary spare lasts until we get there. At 10:00 PM we pull into the driveway and we made it. It was a LONG day. The end result: I can't take any of my vehicles off the paved road any more, but I didn't get placed on geocaching restriction and ... Dinner for ticked-off wife: $50 Two new tires for the Vue: $150 Logging 27 caches in one day and going over 250: PRICELESS For most things in life there are credit cards, for everything else, there's GEOCACHING.

  16. Don Coyote/ Moo Cow Sorry this took so long. I'm still not terribly happy with the mouth/nose area, so if anyone has suggestions, please share. Thank you so much, my wife loves it.
  17. oof.. I can try. I'm not really used to doing stuff like this. Yours was pretty easy cuz I just copied over your petroglyph charm. Do you want the cow to have a Gx body like the coyote, or solid? And thanks everyone *tries to fit her head through the door* I wanted it to be as easy on you as possible. I was thinking about using the first avatar you created for me (don coyote2.jpg) but white with a couple of black spots on it and some modifications to the head to make it look cow-like.
  18. I guess the votes are in and we have a winner. I have one last small request. Could you make a holstein cow (black and white, udders optional) similar to this? I go geocaching with my wife and her handle is "Moo Cow". I think she would love it.
  19. You're right. When I thought about the arms I was still thinking monochromatic and front view, like when I etch it. With the colors, it is a side view and the top of the G sort of looks like an arm anyway. It doesn't need more detail in the fur because it probably wouldn't show up in this size and it would detract from the petroglyph look. I like it. It is nice and simple; I can quickly etch it on a stone and people will know that I made that petorglyph. Thank you once again.
  20. More along the lines of the second image. I like it. How would it look with arms and maybe a bushier tail? I don't know what else you would want to add, but I use a GARMIN eTrex Legend GPSr. Thank you, GeoGIlly, so much for your efforts, you do great work.

  22. I engrave coyote petroglyphs on interesting rocks I find near caches and then leave them in the next cache. It doesn't take much time, but the next finder will know I was there and have an interesting item to take.
  23. There are several sources for my screen name. First off, I have always admired the coyote and its ability to survive no matter what mankind may throw at it. Although I am not a "Native American", I consider the coyote my totem animal and I am an avid collector of coyotes. Second was the book "Don Coyote" by Dayton O. Hyde. Lastly was the short-lived Hanna-Barbera cartoon series and its play on Don Quixote de la Mancha. Besides it sounds a lot better than Wile E. Coyote.
  24. i'm a newbie period. but man oh man do i know the above. i am soo sick of 35mm film canisters. ive even seen one hidden amoung poision oak. what the heck. guess the joke was on me, i got gloves and signed it. Cheer up, with the proliferation of the digital camera, 35mm film will soon be as common as a black vinyl record.
