  1. Actually there's a link to that cache in my post above, and I had wondered what locals thought about it. JRR
  2. We think it's acceptable. For the benefit of cache owners (& others watching the caches), we'd recommend back dating your new finds to the day you actaully found them, and say something like "Found as part of TEAMXYZ, but have my own account now."
  3. I guess, "not everyone can find every cache" applies to events too. Though I had some of the same questions as the OP when I came across this cache. It required you to find caches placed by the organizer of the event in order to get the coordinates. JRR
  4. 0.9 miles south are the posted coordinates for a puzzle cache. We drive by there every single day, GCMRAQ Once we figured out that the "?" meant that the cache was NOT at the posted coordinates, it just taunted us. We figured we were either going to learn to solve puzzle caches or quit caching.
  5. 358, of which 9 are on other islands (Molokai & Lanai)! Some of those mainland numbers are scary.
  6. Nothing in the mail, but at an event yesterday: BikkiBikki! The new geoTiki coin. One of the few times we have something before everyone else. And it's the best one yet!
  7. Very cool coin, will definitely need at least 3, maybe all 4 depending what the copper looks like.
  8. Would also like 2 sets, nineteen and/or twenty-two if those are not taken. Otherwise any number will be fine.
  9. Dropping a coin or TB must be done in conjunction with a "log" for the cache. In the future when you enter your "found it" log for the cache where you dropped the coin/TB, look below the box and you'll see: "Dropped off any travelbugs? Here you can "drop" them into this cache so others know the travel bugs are ready to be picked up!" And below that is your "inventory" just highlight the bug/coin you want to leave in cache. Now when you submit your cache log a log will be created on the tb/coin page and the owner will be alerted you dropped off the bug/coin. However, once you post a log you can't edit it to drop off any bugs. What you should do now is select "log your visit" then choose "Write Note" and say 'Just droppin the geocoin' or something equally brief, select the coin from the drop downlist below and submit your log. Hope that's the info you need.
  10. We don't have that many milestones, but we like to make them extra memorable. For 100 we did GC23Geocache since it was the first cache placed in Hawaii. By that time we'd been caching long enough to have a little appreciation for "Geocache History." We met the cache owner at the event and he remembered how we'd saved his cache for our 100th. I like the number sign idea, maybe we'll start doing that for #400.
  11. We have only met this one: It's Alive
  12. Another option would be to leave instructions with the TB that it is to be left in the cache for the owner to pick up since it reached its goal. If we are leaving a TB for pick up by a specific cacher we place a note to that effect with the TB inside a plastic baggie.
  13. Which means there are plenty of JEEPs named for peaks in AK & HI, even though contest rules mean none of the JEEPs will start their travels in the 49th or 50th states.
  14. Many mahalos! Already decided the coin will start its journey here we didn't know motogrrl, but we think she would approve.
  15. We found a Tiki coin. We also once found an Oregon coin, at the time we didn't know it was trackable, after we figured out where to log it, we sent it on its way. Lately we've been leaving unactivated coins as FTF prizes. For a cache that required a hike we left an AT coin. For 867-5309 we left a "Phone a Friend" coin and for my piggy bank we left a May GCC "proof" coin.
  16. That would be great as we'd like one to attach to this coin before we release it to travel again. I did e-mail the person I think organized this coin last week, but I never heard back. So if anyone wants to trade or even send me an activated coin to travel with one Motogrrl released herself, please let me know via e-mail through my profile. JRR
  17. Your duplicate TB uses the same page as your "missing" TB, no need to register it, its number is already in the system. If you marked it as missing, you can move it back to it's last location and "grab" it from there to get it back into your possession. You can edit the TB's page to reflect that the duplicate tag is now attached to the traveler & that the original bug went missing. Of course the only time we did this, the ORIGINAL bug showed up several weeks later (even though it had been listed as being in a cache that got muggled). Fortunately the finders contacted us and we were able to retrieve the duplicate and let the original keep moving. Things could get confusing if 2 TBs are using the same number.
  18. We didn't think you were whining and we do have a similar story this TB was released here in Hawaii to travel the world. She turned into a boomerang as she's back in a cache not 5 miles from our home coordinates and not 2 miles from the cache she was launched in!
  19. The cache owner will only get your found it log. S/he will not be notified when you retrieve your bug from the cache. But since you own the TB you, will get two other notifications, one that you placed the bug and one that you retrieved it. jrr
  20. We've never found an unlabled decoy, but there are a couple very fun local caches that use them. The first, very near the posted coordinates is an out of place pile of small rocks. They hide a small decon container which when opened has the message, "This is not the the cache GCxxxx, but thanks for looking." There's a second decoy that just says "You're getting warm." There's puzzle cache that has more than one part to it, the easier part to find is labelled, "This is not the cache, but you can see it from here." In both cases you get that, "Aha, the cache" which quickly turns to "drat...grumble...sneaky hider...." which eventually leads to the , "AHA, you can't outsmart me! I'm a Geocacher." In other words, when done like we have encountered them, we like 'em.
  21. We call our Etrex Legend "Lil' blue." Our new Map 60csx hasn't had a nickname that's stuck yet, but some times she's "Mappy" or "Miss P."
  22. 1. Not sure, haven't had a chance to figure it out. 2. I would not pay ANY amout of money. The coin pages say they are not to be sold, so I wouldn't buy one. The exception of course would be one that Moun10bike donated to be sold to raise money for a worthy cause.
