  1. I have been geocaching for half an year now, and am interested in a dedicated GPS for my birthday. I am currently using an iPhone 3G , and would like to get something within by budget. The unit does have to be somewhat rugged and hopefully waterproof, but does not need to have a touchscreen. A colour screen does help but is not mandatory, and it has to be powered by AA batteries, as rechargeables don't work for my long hikes. Any suggestions? My friend is using the Magellan eXplorist 310, and it looks tempting.
  2. You cannot go paperless with the 210, since it does not have any connections to a computer. The only way you can find geocaches is by entering coordinates through waypoints. You have to either bring printouts or the cache description on another device, as the 210 cannot store this information. Also, to delete the cache, just remove the waypoint. There are many better options for geocaching than the 210, but if it is all you've got, it will suffice for basic caching.
  3. ditto here, but as with an older unit, be prepared to wait. Many budget models now are within the sub $200 price range and will be an affordable replacement for the 100
  4. I understand that the Jr. is an economical solution for schools, but you do have to post your caches in order to track them on the Jr.
  5. I triple boot Windows 7, openSUSE (KDE), and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and I mainly use the Windows Partition for geocaching for the same reasons as everyone else.
