  1. Back in 1980, when I just graduated from college, I hiked 2,106 miles on the Appalachian Trail. From Maine down to Georgia. I would bet that even if those across-USA folks knew about geocaching, they wouldn't go out of their way to find a cache. Would take more time than they would want to devote for a 'sidetrip'. When I hiked, about the only thing that would get me to take a lengthy side trip was if an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet was at the end of it.
  2. Sure would be be nice to be able to set certain topics in these forums to "ignore". It is getting tiresome scrolling a dozen pages of "View New Posts" daily when half of them are subjects I have no interest in, or in a language I cant read. This would be my Number One suggestion for improving these forums.
  3. I like this one - Ive seen plenty of them here in rural Ohio. Some abandonded, some converted to other uses. Most look about the same.
  4. Funny I should see this - just 2 days ago I used Gen. John Morgan as a "WOZZITT" in the geocaching forums. Took about a day for someone to get the answer.
  5. I use the 60CS Map gps in a cradle on the dash and it works just fine as an auto GPS. If I had the $$$ I would get a dedicated auto dash unit though.
  6. I sure would like a way to filter the "view new Posts" to only show categories I'm interested. Would save lots of time.
  7. Finally a Waymarking proposal I can get behind. 99% of the others ive seen listed I have no interest in. This one I would be all over. Natural springs are hard to locate unless you can find a local to show you the location. They are not normally marked in any way. I've been lucky enough to find a couple dozen over the years. ( but all before I had a gps so I have no co-ords for them) I LOVE drinking natural spring water - I usually fill up a couple gallon jugs and bring some home with me when I do find a good spring. Best water in the world! In fact I have a gallon here I got from a spring on Cheaha Mtn in Alabama last week.
  8. Caught a young lady just last week. See my AUg 2nd log about it.
  9. Hemlock- YES! that works! I had looked at that setting, under "SKin & Languages" the "Groundspeak (sizable)" skin setting was already selected in the menu-box, so I assumed that it was the default. Its not the default - but after I saved my setting there it does work! Thanks, I was getting a headeache looking at the teeny tiny text!
  10. Ok, Ive searched 'Help', tried everything in "My COntrols" but the text on my screen is still too small to easily read. Using windows "View/Text Size" strangley has NO affect on text in the forums ( though it works fine for any other web site ) Yes, I run at a very high resolution. Any ideas?
  11. I'm not really into making rules for this game. So I have no problem with his number of cache placements. just my 0.02 mudbone
  12. BVCY Swim - thanks for the idea - PewterZ's cache does look very good! I'll put it on the list! Any other suggestions anyone? I've heard that over in Indiana Daphne of Mysteries Inc has some very nice hides. I'm adding those to the list of 'possibles'
  13. I'm approaching the big 100 find, and want a great one for the occasion. Can be anywhere in Ohio, or adjoining states. ( like southern MI, western PA, etc) Looking for really special cache - want to make this a memorable hunt! Thanks in advance. Mudbone
  14. I'm a member of the Church of the Mescalaro, so if anyone wants to put some peyote buttons in a cache, I'd be all for that. Just kidding. I say go for it - sounds like a fine little cross, someone will be thrilled to find it! cheers Mudbone
  15. This kinda reminds me of the folks that hike the whole ( over 2000 mile ) length of the Appalachian Trail in under 90 days. I did it in 6 months. I wouldnt trade my 6 months for those 90 days for anything. It's about quality, not quantity (or speed) in this persons humble opinion. Cheers Mudbone
  16. I just bought my first gps this week - a 60CS. What a great unit! I'm having a blast traveling with it and starting this hobby. I wanted a GPS since they first came out, but just bided my time and waited for a unit like the 60CS - has about everything I could want. Only one 'con' I can think of is the price of the add-on 'Auto' kit - it runs about 180 bucks ( includes the detailed road map CD though ) I've seen the 60CS on some online stores with 100 bucks of rebates that bring it down to about 350 dollars. Worth every penny IMHO. mudbone
  17. Thanks for the responses. I was kinda bent out of shape, not knowing what if anything I should do in such a situation, being a noob myself. So I just dropped a short, calm note to the maintainer & let's let him/her decide. Just to clarify: it was not a disposable camera. It did have a label on it ( as you can see from the pic) saying "display" You can see these exact markings on display-model cameras at Circuit City. My guess? That it was a display-model digital camera that was being sold as such from Circuit City. Cheers mudbone
  18. Ok, I'm brand spanking new to this hobby, just started yesterday, but even I know its a huge faux pas to take the cache camera, right?? The guy who took it even mentions taking it in the online log! I'm thinking he's just a total noob and didnt know better?? ( he has 13 finds ) So - what to do? write him & tell him he blew it and needs to return it? Or tell the cache owner & let him/her decide how they want to handle it? I did notice the cache owner did not mention the camera in the cache description page. Maybe it isnt his camera? Tell a site admin & see what they say? Any ideas? It's not my problem of course I know, thats why I'm posting here. mudbone
  19. I live about 5 miles from this one - I'll go take a look for it and if found maybe I can take it over? Wish I would have thought of it myself! It really is in a beautiful & historically interesting site. The story I remember is the escape attempt in Mid winter where they tried to walk all the way across Lake Erie on the ice, to escape to Canada. Gotta give them credit for trying - it failed miserably of course. mudbone
