  1. Thanks to all for your help! Just in case someone has the same problem in the future and does a search I will explain how the problem was corrected. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You received a file converter call cmconvert when you downloaded CacheMate. Open up cmconvert Click Options Click import options Uncheck Decode Hints by default I believe that normally this box is unchecked but how I got into trouble when I dowloaded the CacheMate Quick Start Guide on the CacheMate Tutorial page and I followed the directions to check ALL on that page. I guess I should have looked at what I was checking and not followed so blindly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Again, Thanks to everyone for your help. I will check into GSAK and If it is real easy to use I will probably get it. I have to be careful though since I am barely a geocacher, more less a computer geek!
  2. I just bought CacheMate and it looks like it will work much better than my Mobipocket program but I have one question though: How do you stop the hint from showing on the overview page ( O tab) in CacheMate? I was trying to look at a description of the cache and read some comments and, YIKES!, there was the hint. I didn't want to see that and now it is too late... I will be cheating. Kind of like when a judge says to a jury to disregard that testimony!! Any help on blocking the Hint would be appreciatted! Thanks, Juiceman
  3. So I have to buy another program just to use the CacheMate program effectively?
  4. NightPilot, What is GSAK? I do not find that in my CacheMate Program on the PDA. Thanks for your help!!! -juiceman

  6. Can anyone tell me how to look for a specific cache that has been downloaded in my PDA to MobiPocket? For instance, Let's say that I have many caches that I downloaded into my GPSV. When I do that only the number of the cache (ie GCJK3H), not the description, will be in my GPS. So lets say that I just found a cache and want to ask my GPS where the nearest waypoint is and it tells me (ie GCJK3H) is the closest one to the one I just found. Now I want to search for that cache in mobiPocket to find out a description and if I want to go find it. I have tried this by searching and entering the geocache number (ie GCJK3H) and it does not pull it up. What am I doing wrong? I do not want to search by the name of the cache since I will not know what the name is in the field and my GPS will only list the caches by the geocache number. I said all that to say this: How in the heck do I look up a cache in MobiPocket by the cache number?? Thanks in advance to all who reply! -juiceman
  7. Thank you all for your help!! I will take a look at these programs. This may be off topic, but does anyone out there know why I would not get an email sent to me when the above people replied to my post? The page that I am now looking at says "You are currently receiving email notification of replies" ?????? Thanks again!!! -juiceman out
  8. Could some of you guys and gals out there give me some suggestions as to what type of software I might need to download waypoints? I need something that will work for both my GPSV and my Garmin IQUE 3600. I would like the software for the Ique to also be able to put the description of the cache on a page and be able to look it up by cache number and/or "nearest location" It is very important that the software be easy to use. The more advice and opinions the better! Thanks for your help! -juiceman
  9. Thanks for your reply. I called Garmin and got an answer. I will share it just in case someone else has the same problem. With the unit off hold down the page button the enter button (joystick) and the on button at the same time. Take care, -juiceman
  10. Does anyone know how to reset my Rino 120 back to factory new? Thanks, -juiceman
  11. Oh, I get it. Thanks for the quick reply!
  12. quote:Originally posted by Brainerd:Beta Version 5.0.3 was just released. http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=369 For me, 5.0.2 crashed during the searching capabilities. I hope this is fixed in the 5.0.3 . Happy hunting, Tom __Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.__ Henry David Thoreau Brainerd, How do I find version 5.0.3? The link directs me to version 5.0 and I can't seem to find 5.0.3 on updates page. Thanks -juiceman out
  13. Ok, you guys have me leaning toward the NG TOPO! now. I failed to mention in my original post that I live in Florida. Since it is flat and woods there is not much for reference points (i.e. mountains), so I need all the trail info I can get. Of course there are still some light elevation changes. (sink holes, etc). I will be obviously using the maps for geocaching but even more so for hunting, hiking, and just flat out exploring. The guy at Delorme said they also sell a product similar to NG that is just the state and it uses USGS maps but he thought the 4.0 would be more updated and accurate as it uses info from a variety of sources.(whatever that means) I am a little concerned that I will not understand what I am looking at without the 3D capability since I have never really understood how to read a topo map and even if I did I would think the 3D would make it easier. I think the 2D shaded maps on the NG would help me a little but I don't know if it would be enough. Delorme has a 30 day return policy so I, or someone else, out to check it out. I haven't heard from anyone who has the Delorme Topo 4.0 yet. Anyone out there? Thanks to all who posted! Please keep the comments coming!
  14. I would like your opinions on topo maps. I have heard good things before about National Geographic TOPO! but am leaning towards the Delorme TopoUSA 4.0 because it covers the whole U.S. instead of just one state and he has the ultra cool 3D imaging and a few other features that seem interesting. What do ya'll think? Any reason to not get the Delorme software? Anyone else currently using it? Thanks in advance! Topo USA® 4.0 National Geographic TOPO!
  15. FINALLY! I removed the program and re-installed it and now it works. I found it much easier to do a search for hints from the Apependix 1:Hints page, otherwise it took a heck of a long time to go from page 13 to 1977. Thanks for all your help guys!
  16. Gregory, Sounds like the same thing that is happening to me. I'll try to remedy it the same way you did. Thanks!
  17. I have version 4.5 on the palm and version 4.4 on the PC. I can not find a version 4.5 for the PC. It says you are downloading 4.5 but when you click to download it the file is actually for 4.4. Anyhow, I can get it to work on the PC but not on the palm, where I need it most. It seems like it should have a link to the exact appendix with the hint or at least list it encrypted like on the website and I could use my decoder on the palm to decrypt it. Funny thing is that there is a link at the hints that brings you back to the original cache but not visa versa. I don't want to hunt through the hints first as it will spoil caches for me that I may go on later. Jeremy, can you help us out? By the way, It may not sound like it but I am grateful for what I have but would like to see the bugs worked out and it would be awesome! -juiceman (proud charter member BEFORE the perks)

    Pocket query

Jeremy, Do I set up the query to run for the same day or should I not choose a day at all. Thanks for the help. PS. Can you take a look at the other question I posted today and advise.
  19. Thanks for the reply. I tried using the find feature but it just keeps bringing me back to the cache listing and not the hint. Any idea's?

    Pocket query

Is there a way to run a query and instantly dowload it to my palm or do I have to wait for a scheduled query to be sent to me? Thanks for your help.
  21. Can anyone tell me how to find the hints? It looks like they are there but there are pages and pages of them and I do not know how to go directly to the hint that I am looking for? I hope it's just me and someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in advance!

Just thought I'd start another new thread within a thread. Well, At least it will take the pressure off Jeremy for a while.

  24. You have not addressed this issue so I can only hope that you at least read the posts. I am a fairly new geocacher. I love the hobby and I love the site. I have recently become a charter member. I became a charter member to help support this site because I used it and I believed in it and I know that not too many things are free in life. I have a Palm PDA and since I have found the source to download the caches in my area to my PDA, my life, and geocaching, has been much more fun. I sometimes go to caches on the spur of the moment, when I happen to be in the area. Without the ability to download the many caches in my area, my only alternative would be to print out 100 caches in my area, each consisting of about 3 pages or so each. So that is about 300 pages to print out, that will soon go stale, just IN CASE I happen to be in that area at some time or another. Look, I will gladly pay for this convenience if it is necessary, but without it I think that my interest in geocaching will diminish, I will quit buying the geocaching merchandise from this site, I will stop turning all my friends on to geocaching, geocaching.com and Groundspeak, will cease to be a charter member of this site, and will, once again, shake my head in disbelief at what I see as people being so greedy that they would refuse to give their fellow man a glass of water, even if the glass or the water cost them nothing. I hope you can work something out with the guys that are writing the scripts. The suggestion that only giving the scripts to charter members seems fair to me. I ask that whatever you do, do it soon. And in the meantime, don't hassle the guys that are busting their butts to help us, without compensation. Jeremy, If you think that anything I have said seems unfair to you or this site, please respond, even if it's a personal email. Thanks for listening. -juiceman
