  1. Look at the Delorme PN-20. $200 maps included. They have tropo and can download just about anything else. TigerGPS got them for $200. Or many one ebay for $200. Hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
  2. I am a late comer to this thread. But if I was the first to respond my response would have been: Hello welcome to Geocaching and the forums. I see you are from Dade Co. Fl. I used to go in and out of Brevard Co. Fl. (I use to work on the Eastern Launch Range). What you need to do now after contacting the owner of the cache is to ether email the reviewer or post a need to be archived log. I hope this helps you and that you continue to cache and not let this cause you to stop. As they sound like none security types. As security people have training on how to deal with people and not getting them worked up. As you know sense you are a medic/FF. I also am a volunteer FF here in Pa and we have training on how to deal with the public. Hope this helps Now as you can see I am welcoming him to this hobby. I am not flaming him. I am answering his questions. I am being nice. Some of this is lost here on these forums. Trouble is we are not facing one another to read the person. This leads to a less feel for what is being said and able to read more into the message then what one normally would. I hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
  3. When I see it is an activated geocoin and it is for sale I assume it has been stolen. I will NEVER buy an activated geocoin on ebay or here. Exception the owner/activator is selling it. Then only with lots of email and research. Of course if I see an item on Ebay without the box and manuals then I assume it is stolen and will not buy it. So their I hope my $.02 helps. kf4oox - Paul
  4. I just checked the Garmin site and both the 60CSX and Vista HCX have 1000 waypoints, 10000 track points in 20 track logs. They are the same in this regard. I have the Vista C (yes a couple of models ago) and I really like it. It is small and compact and light weight. Have put some miles on it. I have found a nice carrying case for it that will clip to my belt loops or some other thing so I don't have to carry it all the time in my hands. The only bad thing about the eTrax type GPSr is the rubber gasket around the out side of the unit has been known to come un-glued. I have heard it is related to heat. Like being on the dash of a car. (I have the mound for it in my car and that is where I put the GPSr when I am in the car.) Mine has started to come off and I called Garmin and they sent me the clue strip and a new rubber gasket to put on. They sent it free. I think they still have not the glue figured out but they do take care of this problem when it pops up. My unit is out of warranty and they still sent me that stuff (I got it today) free. I hope this helps you. kf4oox - Paul
  5. Oh I forgot, How much of an area do you want to cover? How long in the area are you going to be? How much time caching are you going to spend? Their are many micros in the Sharon area but just a few miles out you get more into the hike type hides. Hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  6. Hello, I am in Sharon, Pa so if you want to you can look me up and I would be happy to take you around. (You can find me at the cache Sharon West Hill - GC182F5). You can do a search on Zip 16146 for caches. In the Sharon area is many different caches. Some micros to some small hikes. We even have a cache dedicated to an Olympic Archer that is from this area. Witch ones are my favorites, well all with a smiley are my favorites . Some caches do have some history around them like the 444 Micro that is at the 444 Flag avenue. (A flag put up for every day Iran held US people hostage). With in a short distance from Sharon is the Shenango River Lake and their are lots of caches around it. Their is a serous of caches on a trail on one side of the Lake that is nice. (A Tree is one of them.) Sharon View is a good micro with a very nice view of the Shenango Valley (Sharon and area). KerBear did list many of the good ones. If you want to email me through my profile and I will be happy to meet up with you someplace and take you around. Hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
  7. You best bet is to go to Ebay and search for Palm. You can find many many of them very cheap. hope that helps. kf4oox - Paul

  9. Sent a couple of questions via email from profile page. kf4oox - Paul
  10. Wow, I like that. I could do it with both. Have a foot on the edge of the Logo and her reaching for the "Trackable at Geocaching.com" in the arch. Thanks for the ideas. maldar Hey you are welcome. I will be looking forward to this coin. Thanks kf4oox - Paul
  11. I think it looks very nice. Does good for a child's geocoin. On the back how about showing her climbing the Geocaching emblem. Is it going to be trackable? If so how about having "Trackable at Geocaching.com" in an arch and showing her hanging from it. (Like monkey bars at a playground)? I think this is one coin I will be waiting on to get. Thanks kf4oox - Paul
  12. I just check my version of Mapsource and it is 6.13.7. This is the current version. I have the latest version of GSAK as well. Very easy to get. I did run Palm desktop (or what ever it is called) till I fell and broke my Z22. I had cachemate on it. Hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
  13. I have Vista Home Premium SP1 and I use a Etrax Vista C w/mapsource and GSAK. Everything works just fine. Hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  14. I have Vista Home Premium SP1 and I use a Etrax Vista C w/mapsource and GSAK. Everything works just fine. Hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  15. Well here is mine. Money, what is Money? Late last year my work cut me down to 1 day a week and with the economy the way it is I have not been able to find other work. Go to someplace hiring and it has lines like a Star Wars movie first showing and that is for 1 job. I do love those shinny little Geocoins and I am addicted to them. I have not been able to purchase one in many months and now I am going into withdraws. I could use one to help fend off the withdraws for a few months. Thanks for listing to me. kf4oox - Paul
  16. Well for my very lovely area of far Western Pa from the very megaloplis of Sharon Pa 1 mile = 11 5 miles = 99 10 miles = 187 25 miles = 716 50 miles = 2253 I hope this helps you. Have fun and stay safe. (or right now in N.E. USA stay COOL) kf4oox - Paul
  17. My longest finding streak is 8 days for 36 caches. Right now I am on day 6 of no finds streak. I was hoping to change that yesterday but the sun and heat got to me and I was not able to. Oh well such is life. kf4oox - Paul
  18. My nearest cache is .13 mile. My own in my back yard. That is the distance from my car parking to the cache at the back of my yard Nearest found is .3 mile Nearest un-found is .7 mile Hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
  19. Looks like a really nice geocoin. I am hoping to be able to get a couple. Thanks kf4oox - Paul
  20. There are many types of people out their. Most are good some are not. It is a shame that the bad make things hard on most people. Where ever you are you need to pay attention to what is going on around you. This was not from caching. I had a friend down in FL. Many years ago his wife and a friend of theirs were in a local park (to them) walking on paved walking trails. She had stopped to do something and told them to keep on going she will catch up shortly. When she left the Bldg she went into to she noticed a couple of guys that started to follow her. She speed up and meat up with her husband and friend. She told them she thought those guys were following her. Their friend turned and looked at the two guys and did not like their looks. She pulled the digital camera out of her purse and took their pictures. They turned and ran away. Their friend got on his cell phone and called in a couple of his co-workers. They then turned and made their way back to their cars. At the cars was a PD Officer waiting for them. They filled out a report. Their friend wanted copies of the photos when they downloaded them. They sent the pictures to him as soon as they got home. The next day their friend did some research at work and found out who these 2 guys were. These 2 guys are well known to PD. They have been in and out of the legal system so many times they know it very well. Their friend is a PD officer. You never know who you are going to meet up with when you are out and about. Not just caching but every day of you life. kf4oox - Paul
  21. I think this expresses what I like too. I think it depends on what you are trying to do. What fits the theme best. But I like all geocoins (just don't have the money for everyone of them) I hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  22. Just be very careful with that Z22 as it is not very robust. I slid down a hill and I killed mine. I was using cachemate on it too. Go to the upper right and select found. It will then display all you found caches. You then go to the menus and their is a selection to delete all. (If I remember correctly). I hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  23. Yes and No. I do not keep a paper log of my finds. But I do the paperless caching and keep it on my PDA. Many just keep it on geocaching.com. (The bad part about keeping on PDA is when you kill your PDA and have to get a new one.) Hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
  24. Their is many ways to add flashy stuff to your profile. You can go to http://www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com/ and upload your finds PQ and they process it and produce lots of stats and maps. You can also go to a couple of places that have maps that you can turn on the states or counties that you cached in. (I do not have an url for them) You can use GSAK and a macro call findstat3 to produce lots of good info. (see my profile) Their is also a couple of other programs you can use that process you finds PQ and produce allot of stats. I hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
