  1. Thanks for all the feedback. I have no intention of placing a liar's cache but someone commented to me the other day that they did. I personally think they are pretty silly although the logs could be somewhat entertaining to read. ALso agree that using this type of cache to manipulate the D/T for Fizzy Challenges or not disclosing that the cache is a liar's cache are more ridiculous for the reasons stated.
  2. Can't seem to find anything on gc.com about whether or not these are still allowed. I thought I remembered that they were not but I could be wrong.
  3. [quote name='TriciaG' timestamp='1489868484' post='5642257' You pull up a thread that is 3 years old, to post that people are overreacting? Strange, I agree.... Now that I am here, I think it IS still fine to delete a bogus log.....because it's bogus......fake.......it never happened
  4. As part of a presentation I did (a continuing education symposium for other recreational therapists), we had an experiential portion in which we actually paired up therapists with local people who had different "disabilities" One girl had CP as well as autism. She found the social interaction which came as a natural part of Geocaching as a group to be very beneficial. She described it as "fun" and performed above her normal level of social interaction with others without even realizing it. Good stuff!
  5. Bravo to the OP! I am a recreational therapist and have done numerous presentations on using Geocaching as both therapy as well as a means to remain active and improve quality of life after a stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, etc. I applaud your desire to learn a new hobby at a time when so many abandon activity.
  6. Here in southwest Ohio, I am blessed to be part of (what I think is) a great Geocaching community. We have two active and welcoming organizations. Both of them put on events regularly in addition to the other events hosted by other cachers. We have trackable races, zombies, great food, and meteor shower watches. We welcome new cachers and encourage them to hob nob with some of us veterans. The cachers in the area include some prolific hiders too. We have some of the most favorited hiders in the state which (I think) gives inspiration to other hiders, new and veteran. We routinely host Geocaching events at other, larger gatherings in order to introduce the larger community to Geocaching. (Parks, Scouts, schools, etc). Plus we genuinely like each other! Many of us hang out apart from caching. I have been to Super Bowl parties, taken vacations with people I met caching, attended weddings and funerals of other cachers. We really are a family!
  7. Caught this pic in Denali National Park last August.
  8. NM logs. Of course, the same is also true for NA logs. More likely in a scenario such as this http://coord.info/GC162YB where the CO is pretty much done with caching.
  9. Makes no difference to me whatsoever. Nothing personal. I would admit he has probably done more to get the game where it is than anyone else, but I don't like the part about "Making Geocaching better". That's the main problem with Groundspeak (or whatever it is called at this point), they never know when to leave things alone. But that's another topic I believe.....
  10. Around here (SW OH) the reviewers give a 30 day notice for most NM logs which are being unattended. Then they simply archive the hide.
  11. The link that Keystone provided for the area that the OP requested was pretty specific on policy. One was "Containers used cannot be metal or resemble anything that might cause public alarm". Another is "Annual applications are required for all active caches by April 1st of each year. Nice of you to do that for one just starting, with no hides or finds yet. Whoops! Missed the link in my haste. Thanks!
  12. I can do it. I don't live in Toledo but that is my hometown and I have a cache placed there already with the understanding that I can perform maintenance routinely on visits. This park is close to my brother's home and his kids have been wanting to place a cache. I will gladly do this with them. But I would need to know: If you have any specific intentions for this hide (a traditional or multi, anything to be said in the description besides some history about Ellie's project or Juliette Gordan's history, some information about your project, etc) You mention having a trackable placed in the cache. I would obviously need to have this sent to me. Unless you have some other idea, I would probably use an ammo box so it is durable and good sized for fun stuff Does this have to be done by a certain date? I could probably do this in the next few weeks but will first have to get in touch with the park headquarters. A good deal of what can be placed (size, maybe they don't allow ammo boxes, probably have a requirement about it being only slightly off the trail, etc) will depend on what I hear from them. There seems to be no proximity issue so it seems as long as the park is willing to give me the permit, we should have no problems. Let me know (and Keystone, if you have any knowledge about park permits in Toledo, I'd love to get a heads up since I wont be able to get hold of them until Monday. goecat_ AKA Mike
  13. I wish the new one would be put on death row at the very least
  14. As stated earlier, the easiest way to to check with your local reviewer. I have done this many times and they are very glad to help out.
  15. I like to do it the "old fashioned way". Basically, I make a bookmark list. Then I simply use the map view along my planned driving route. Depends on how long of a trip and how much time I have as to how many, how far off my route, or what types of caches I look for, but when I see one, I put it in the bookmark list. For example, I drove from Ohio to Alaska last summer. A very long route so I didn't want to keep stopping for random caches. I viewed caches on the map using various filters like caches with tons of favorite points, caches that would fill my month placed (Jasmer) holes, webcams, Virtuals, etc. Project-gc.com has some additional ways to do this easily in map views. Yes, it takes some time, but it a great way to find very interesting caches or caches with some value related to challenges (challenge caches or personal challenges).
  16. Around here, we know who the "advanced cachers" are We have a super secret network
  17. - Possibly start on getting all the remaining counties in Ohio (my home state) completed - Try to complete double Jasmer - Surpass 2000 favorite points on my caches I'd love to get one in Hawaii and complete all 50 states but that's not likely this coming year.
  18. Seems this is really up to you but if you are looking for my opinion, I would probably just give each individual a ticket. Seems easier and less stressful.
  19. I know that I would travel to get this one if it is reactivated at GZ. Same for others in my area (SW Ohio). We would LOVE to do a road trip out there together! (Drove to Alaska this summer so this would be a park and grab, lol!) Maybe they can secure it with a heavy duty chain at GZ. Not sure about the location but it might deter some muggles.
  20. I bet many of you have already heard that the muggled APE cache has been found! They have a survey to try to help determine what to do with it now. In my opinion, this cache needs to be restored to its original location and reactivated. That would be awesome! I would make the trip out there just for this find (and, of course, making lots of other fun finds on the way, lol).
