  1. We have a fellow cacher in our local area that is usually the FTFer when a new cache is put out, but he doesn't brag about it. He is actually a cool guy, funny too. He is a stay at home dad with a 2 year old son, so yeah, he can get to a FTF while the rest of us are at work. That is what makes this activity so great, some people are in it for the FTFs, some are in it for the numbers, while others are in it for the LONG hikes. I used to be gung ho on getting FTF, but that was back in 05 and 06 when gas was under $2/gal. With gas prices much higher (although they are starting to come down now), we tend to cache when there are a bunch of caches building up nearby. Getting more "bang for your buck", so to say.
  2. our local Cracker Barrel has a cache as well...GCN9GE...has been there almost 2 years and one that I will never forget. We didn't have a GPS at the time and a fellow cacher asked us if we were "looking for something" wink wink....That is probably the best part of caching, running into other fellow cachers
  3. Done....34 here....wow, 5 are over 90?!?!? Hmmm
  4. I travel light...GPS, 1 pen, a county map with dots and the corresponding coordinates with diff/terr/size listed in the page's border...depending on the weather, bring a couple bottles of water...for swag, I usually leave a WheresGeorge in caches that I know get a lot of finds...
  5. Agreed, no muggles around when there is snow on the ground, plus the satellite reception is MUCH better in the winter time without any overhead foliage...
  6. I try blaming my wife for my Caching addiction, she was the one who introduced this crazy hobby to me about three months ago. I work two jobs, about 70 hours a week, so finding the time to do this is pretty hard to do. I have tried taking our 5 year old daughter along, but she gets bored rather quickly, even after letting her "find" a cache, if you catch my drift....My first cache I hid I entitled it "Little One's First Cache" and every time someone finds it, I tell her that "someone found your cache, kiddo!" All I get is a "Uh huh" I am sure I am not the only one who will use his lunch break to go find a cache or go to work a little early to stop by that cache that is on the way to work. A perfect Saturday to me would be to wake up at about 5am and just take off for about 6-8 hours and do nothing but cache, no cell phones, no interruptions, just pure caching! OK, I am done ranting, I guess I am just looking for other guys out there who are in the same boat I am!
  7. My family is just starting with the geocaching and we are looking for a good used, simple to use(I am mechanically challenged!) and being on a tight budget, fairly inexpensive unit. Ive done some research and possibilities are the geko 101, yellow etrec, etc.... Can Anyone help?
