  1. for me getting a text notification just means that something has published in my home turf... but the notificaiton it's self for me is worthless. it has so much repete and meaningless info for a short text message that there is really no value so what i need to do is go to the hand write out the waypoint id on paper, hit the wap site (which no longers works) re type it back in to get the Lat and Long to plug into my gps to see if it's something i would like to hit. [GEO] Notify:"name of reviewer... (do i need this?) published (first letter of cache) This is an atuomated message from GoeCaching For GC1H0ZD: Caching A Class" thats all I get. example: From NoReply@geocaching.com Subject:[GEO]Notify: Prime Reviewer published C This is an automated message from GeoCaching For GC1H0ZD: Caching A Class (Tradition thats it. this point it almost pointless :[GEO]Notify: Prime Reviewer published C This is an automated message from GeoCaching For so now i have identical notification running. one to my Text Message and a second to my email that i can get from my cellphone. the text message tells me there is a cache. i can get the distance from zero from cellphone access to mail, but to get anything else like Lat and Long (cuz the links dont work) i need to do the wap site by hand. Cant we come up with a notification that says (type) (waypoint) Geocache (action): (name) was publsihed at Lat Long. It is a 1/3 (dif/ter) cache..... (put in all the other stuff)

I was thinking it was just me a few nights ago, luckly i was able to hit a wifi spot and get what i needed. when i try to log in from my samsung phone (which did work a few months ago) I get a message that says... Server error in '/' application. valuditeon viewstate mac failed. if this application is hosted by a web farm or cluster ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationgKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster..... it continues on for awhile.... including a paragraphs that starts with DESCRIPTION, EXEPTION DETAILS, SOURSE ERROR, STACK TRACE and VERSION INFORMATION
  3. I am going there one day! Looks good to us! Well, where is it? And what does PI mean? It's in Texas and PI is Poison Ivy. Well, I assumed Texas because the original poster is from Texas, but where in Texas exactly? It looks like it might be a fun caching trip, poison ivy or not. I get to Texas once every month or so and meet up with a few caches... would love to know where this is!, might be fun just for the "I DID X# in 3 hours" bar talk. can ya give us just one waypoint?
  4. I have noticed this too... a few of my cache pages that have been working great have started acting strage by making the window smaller BUT on evening opening it up to 1280X800 still creates an issue where he to overlap the left nav bar covers over the cache page. yes for IE6
  5. all i can say is thankyou. just last week i was in dallas (I live in SoCalif) coming in from a long night at work. cellphone went off with a publish notification in the area. pulled up to a McDonalds (free wifi for att users) pulled out my touch and was trying to get the info from the GCwebsite. Even though have done this before, it just was not working that night. got zoomed into a map so my attempt to scroll the page was moving the map and all I could do was say to myself... this could be so much better.... problem solved. bought within minutes of hearing about it. thankyou
  6. Caches found after forest/wild fires are always fun....
  7. The problem with cache along route and ignoring the distance from route seems to have been solved... which also moved the cache names from the bottom to the side. looks more like the old code.
  8. let me take that back... it works but seems to disregard the distance from route looks to be finding caches up to 5 miles away.. which if your route goes thru a major cache area, it wipe out the 500 caches before the route is done. on a seperate note, it also comes back with over 700 caches... so I am assuming the 500 limit is not working?
  9. works with no problem using Apple Safari on the PC
  10. depending on your skill/age and ability to quickly pick up interfaces, i find that a great geocaching new person gps is the garmin gps 60 (non map). couple of reasons 1) good gps 2) larger screen 3)easy to use and read buttons and 4) has garmins geocache mode (not a big deal but nice). Used ones sometimes come up on ebay, just under a 100, one sold last week for $53. I use this as my "friend" gps. having tried to teach someone the vista buttons for just a day seemed like it was pointless with the non labled icon buttons, but the 60 clear labled buttons, and being the same as my gpsmap 60csx really made the it a breaze for a first timer.
  11. nate falls thru, i know a single mom family with two boys that would love this. and I would love them to quit borrowing my CSX! call it a late christmas present
  12. under the preview feature WAS a map option. It is now gone, I loved this feature, as it quickly allowed me to get a quick view of (what ever was in the pocket query) TB in area for example that I might go after during lunch or on the way home from work. Was a nice graphic that didnt require me to run the query or attmpt to figure it out in my head if I could make it during the time I had. But it seems to be gone now. please bring it back!
  13. What I leave always seems to get taken... which is a good thing... I leave cookies, cokes, french fries, and/or icecream! now before someone starts yelling about leaving food... and a cache owner has... (cuz i put in the log i left cookies and drink) they are gift cerf's for McDonalds. Kids love getting them. Check your local Mikey D's for "after school packs" they cost about 2 bucks and you get 15 or so. They also do one for Halloween... which, might I add, is just around the corner.
  14. so... here's the question. do you sign the log or just throw something into the can? I would think that if ya didnt sign the logbook, then I'd delete entry. I'm getting tired of opening small cache containers and they are full of junk, stickers that are not even put into log book, beads, business cards, cut up inkjet prints, a few 35mm cans are so full, that the log book hardly fits anymore. I love the pencil but, if someone takes it, and you havent signed the logbook, then what happens of the owner starts to compare the logbook to the logs?
  15. I have access to two computers, one uses firefox with the script monkey that puts the note date at the top of each cache page, the other doenst. It is sure nice, when going to a cache to be able to quickly tell when I was their last, even if it is just to drop off a travel bug. Funny when I am using the MSIE computer, i really miss that feature.
  16. The current message contains so much nothing info... ID Nofity: <name of reviewer> published Can, This is an automated message from GeoCaching.com for <cache code> <cache name>. how much do i really need of this? Do I really need to know who reviewed or it's name? how about Geocache <cache code> was published D<difficutly> T<terrain>. and maybe an option for distance from home.
  17. I used the handy dandy search function and typed the word "Nano," it took me twenty seconds. Enhancement Request - New Cache Size NANO My vote is no the Nano Size. Do you have any idea how big a "nanometer" really is? A nanometer is a unit of measure. Just like inches, feet and miles. By definition a nanometer is one-billionth of a meter. A meter is about 39 inches long. A billion is a thousand times bigger than a million, as a number you write it out as 1,000,000,000. That is a big number and when you divide a meter into one billion pieces, well that is very small. So small you cannot see something a nanometer in size unless you use very powerful microscopes like atomic force microscopes. Until cachers need Atomic Force Microscopes, no Nano size description is needed. then maybe we shouldt call them caches becuase they can only fit books... opps sorry book shouldt be there too cuz i dont think that a single role of paper is a book. and for the person who said only GC larger as there are lots.. try NY or downtown chicago... they aint any but one or two.

    route caches

something is screwy with routes... i cant delete or modify PQ that have been created with KML files. they seem to run ok, but when i click on them to modify or delete them i get an error message
  19. Hello, I like the Stat Bar option which i use in the footer of my emails. but I would like an option that instead of hidden it would show Bugs: So my options would be Found: ## / Placed: ## OR Found: ## / Bugs: ##. As there is two lines in the Classic Configuration someone can choose between what is on each. Cachies Found: ## Cachies Placed: ## Trackable Found: ## Trackable Placed: ## custom text
  20. Micro by def is a 35 mm film can as stated by example on geocaching.com. these nanos are almost impossible to see would like to know it if is over 90% smaller than 35mm can. (Maybe I should ask a different question.. as I have seen logbooks and small items in a film can... what is the difference between micro and small?) Just becuase someone can write with a bit of lead with a twezers I am not sure that this was the intent of the person when they came up with micro. Maybe the question is... who are we hiding the caches from? Was the orginal intent to get someone to go someplace and find something or have someone go someplace and make a fool out of them becuase the item is so small and so camo'ed the no one in their right mind could find it? (I played with a nano hidden behind bark on a oak tree - get real) All I know is that last week I was in Chicago and a older person was caching with me, they commented that they are starting to give up on this because the nano is wrecking the fun for them in the city. And without a way of determine film style/size cans from single pill holders they are thinking about giving up the entire sport. So with that said, what harm does it do to make an addtional catagory if a portion of the population would benifit from it? I guess we could say screw them... if they cant see it then maybe they shouldnt be caching.
  21. Hello, Was thinking the other day about all of the pocket cache file that show up in my email that I throw away and the times that I wanted to file NOW, only to create the querry and then wait hours until it showed up. Started to wonder if the everyone is scheduling pocket caches daily that are not used, would it not be better to just have a run querry and get it on demand than waste all of the processing of thousands unneeded files just so we could have them in our email box just incase? Then the file that I would be looking at would be current as of the time I ran it that evening and not 11 hours old because that's the last time it ran. Just looking at my account with 3 scheduled querries that run daily, and in reality I only want 2 or 3 a week, but I keep them running just incase... 21 scheduled vs 3 on demand then assume that I can only need that 2 weeks out of the month... 84 vs 6.... times that by 10,000 users... just a thought -retro-
  22. Suburban 2500 4x4 - enough room for the family, dog, and picnic. GCJP87 GCJZKC
  23. Agree, As the PQ is an electronic file, what harm does it take to have addtional info that not only includes TB's included, but what they are? My guess is that on a percent, they would take up very little space. heck, even on the index page there could be a symbol for example (TB -2 ) 2 travel bugs in cache -retro-
