  1. The allure of a good geocache can be very powerful. It can often cause some of us to take chances that maybe we shouldn't. Especially us seniors. A very sad story.
  2. Many thanks for that link. Wow. There is a lot of information there. I like the method using the geocaching map and relocating the map cursor to a desired point and then downloading the caches for that area. Works great! Also, many thanks to those that took the time to respond. I appreciate it.
  3. I've been playing around with the Geocaching live feature on my 66s and registered it with geocaching.com no problem. However, I can't seem to download more than 7 caches using "Download Near" and I have no refresh button on the map. Am I not doing something correctly?
  4. If those found logs were okay'd by the previous CO, I'd let them be. Now that you're the owner I would deal with "found" caches from this point on, if you desire.
  5. To be honest, I deleted the extras. It's not hard to do. I hesitated mentioning it in my first posting as I thought maybe they were necessary as part of the Wikiloc download. I would feel kinda dumb if that was the case. Sorry....
  6. After plugging into my PC, I noticed an update available when I opened Garmin Express. It was for Wikiloc. After the update, I noticed two Route Planner, two Routing and two Routes icons on one profile (Automotive) and all of the above plus two Geocaching icons on another profile (Geocaching). All duplicate icons are functional. I went through the normal sign-up procedure via IQ connect and signed up for the Wikiloc free trial. Does that sound normal?
  7. I'm a retired senior having lived most of my life here in Canada. What that means is I grew up on feet and fahrenheit well before everything changed to the metric system. As a result, I like to have two main profiles on my 66s. My geocaching profile is in statute units so, when I'm on a trail, I can flip to the compass page and follow the big red arrow to the cache while counting down in feet. In automotive profile, I like using kilometres as all of our road speeds and distances are metric, but when I change units it affects both profiles. My old school self (stubborn, lol) finds this to be a minor annoyance. Did I miss something? My apologies if this has been peviously addressed.
  8. I guess it's those "new and improved features/functions/graphics" that have some of us confused, lol. I'm very pleased with my 66s, we'll get used to it.
  9. Alas, it's a sign of the times. Along with the buggy whip went hard copy manuals, lol. Enjoy your 64st, it's a really great GPSr.
  10. If you haven't done so, I highly recommend downloading the manual for your 64st. I also keep a copy of it in my smartphone for quick reference. The manual can be found at Garmin support.
  11. Okay, I get it. I need to be actively pursuing a cache in order to get those extra details. A bit of a learning curve from my 64 series, but I really like what I"ve seen so far. It seems there's a lot of technology in this GPSr just waiting to be unleashed. Thanks for your reply.
  12. I spent a few hours today getting aquainted with my new 66s and have been very happy overall with the set-up process, with only a few minor hiccups that were quickly sorted out. I'm up to date with version 280 as well. I am puzzled about one thing, however. When I look at a geocache's description, I notice there is no 'Additional Hint'. The name, description and logs are all there but no 'Additional Hint' on all the caches I loaded. For the record, all of the caches do have additionl hints, lol. I'm not sure if this has been addressed on this forum. I didn't get a hit when I searched. Regards.
  13. I've got my maps. Everything is irie again.
  14. The site's back up. I just requested maps.
  15. I love it when a CO spends a lot of time scouting out an appropriate area, camouflaging a container and ends up with logs like this, and only this: ): or this (: or 'FTF 458'
  16. Thanks for that link. Very interesting. I just might buy a couple more packs, lol.
  17. I purchased a 4-pack of those batteries for $9.99 (CDN). The minimum rating of 2450 mAh, the 500 recharging cycles and the fact that they're made in Japan sounded very familiar to me. Hmmm.....
  18. So funny. I thought I had too many. After my wife saw this, she's backed off. Thanks for the help.
  19. The Garmin website has step by step instructions for removing preloaded geocaches on the 64 series for both PC and Mac. Check under Support.
  20. Have a look at the Garmin Etrex 30x. I was able to buy one on sale for $220 (CDN). For what you're looking for, I think it has everything and more. A solid unit that has been my go-to GPSr while travelling and generally, the one I most often use for geocaching. I have other more expensive devices but I like it's smaller size and ease of use.
  21. GPS City in Calgary indicates the Garmin GPSMAP 66st comes preloaded with both U.S. and Canada TOPO maps.
  22. Thank you Cheminer Will. Yes, it is both. I was hoping the Canada portion would be beyond version 4 which has been around for quite awhile. Perhaps there's no real way of finding out.
  23. Hey, thanks for the heads up. I can check the Raptor score during commercial breaks! Looking forward to it.
  24. Does anyone get burnt out when they DON'T find caches? I seem to be averaging 50/50 lately, lol.
