I'm out again today and as suspected my 66s is working flawlessly, lol. I'm doing a couple of things differently and changed a setting. I'll monitor it's performance. Sorry about the first post, I'm usually more patient.

I finally packed the day in after a few hours of frustrating geocaching. Generally, I can put up with a lot regarding Garmin GPSr's quirky ways, but today was too much. I encountered three random screen freezes where the only fix was to re & re the batteries. As a rule, I often recalibrate the compass after doing that. It took at least 30 tries to get past stage three and finally, after using several "magic" words, I succeeded. I own many Garmin GPS receivers and some have compasses that calibrate instantly and others that don't. I'm surprised that I had such trouble today because prior calibration attempts with this unit have always been quickly successful. But, adding that to the screen freezes just makes for a disappointing outing. Tomorrow it'll be back to working like a champ. Go figure. Thanks for listening.

The advice on the GPSrchive forum is to wait and see why Garmin has not made the 2.70 upgrade available to all. My 66s is working pretty well, except for the occasional hiccup, so I think I'll follow that advice.

Is it possible to add a GPX folder to an SD card that has a downloaded map on it?

And you have Satellite page as your home page and you press FIND from that page? If so, I think I need to contact Garmin.

It appears so. As if I was creating a route. Were you able to duplicate it on your 66? Not having the ability to have different unit types (metric/statute) in different profiles is something I can put up with but this latest occurance is very annoying. I have the Satellite page set as my home page on all my GPSr's (64 series X3, 62 series X3, 60cx, 60csx and several etrex series) and FIND allows me to choose any waypoint or geocache and GO to it.

Stupidly, I just solved my problem. If I press FIND from the map screen, or any other screen, I get GO every time and the same is true for waypoints. It's pressing FIND from the Satellite screen that's causing the problem. Good grief......

Thank you for your response. I've been struggling with changing bitmap screen captures to jpeg format. I managed to do that but I stalled at trying to add them to this response. I can't get them in order and my text is partially covered by them. I apologize for that. Meanwhile, I should mention that my "home" screen is the satellite page and that is where I press FIND.

I'm certain the following problem I'm experiencing is just a setting, but for the life of me I can't resolve it. While in Geocaching profile, when I press FIND and then GEOCACHES, after I make my selection of geocache, I never see GO, it's always USE. Drives me nuts. The same thing happens with WAYPOINTS. However, when I select GEOCACHES on my page ribbon and then select a geocache, I get GO. I also have WAYPOINT MANAGER on my page ribbon and after selecting a waypoint via that method, I get GO. It's me, right? My highest praise offered to the FTF (First To Follow-up).

I'll be in Palm Desert, California this October and I'm hoping to nab a few desert geocaches. Nothing specific as yet, but I was curious if there were precautions one should take before sticking their hand into a nest of rattlesnakes, etc. I'm cautious about plant and animal life where I live in Canada but the desert is a whole new world for me. Many thanks!

Ha ha. I've tried several times to find geocaches with just my phone. I mean, how handy can it be? I have the app in it, I can log a found (or not) right there in the field and it fits more comfortably in my hand (and back pocket), but how do I brighten that screen where I can see it!!?? I'm being serious.....

I forgot to note that the newest version of GE (6.14.2.0) has been acting weird on my PC. The blue syncing progress bar was fully blue and never stopped syncing although GE indicated a successful sync. After 15 minutes of syncing, I shut GE down and re-plugged in my 66s and the syncing seemed to work okay...still took awhile, although not as long. I incorrectly thought perhaps that was the 2.70 version loading up, but it wasn't. This has happened more than once since the GE update. It never happened before that. The syncing duration was always short as there's really not much to sync. For what it's worth...

Well, I'm halfway there, lol. I decided to close down Garmin Express and checked for updates via WebUpdater. It indicated I was up to date but also indicated there were additional updates available. There were two; Chipset 2.60 and a Micronesia Time Zone Map. I downloaded both and now I'm up to GPS Software version 2.60 (from version 2.50). So that's a good start. I tried turning off/on my 66s and rechecking for that elusive 2.70 using both updater and GE, but no luck as yet.

I have a Samsung phone with a micro-USB port and I charge it via that port everyday and for the last four years. The port's fine. Why would the 66s port be any different?

It's up again. On May 9th., I experienced a similar result and never got an email indicating it was ready for downloading. When I tried again, just now (May 13, 5 P.M.ish), I selected the map I wanted and noticed there was no option for email but there was for "Download Now". Which I did and bingo, back in business. ,

I guess I can see their point but, as you stated, it's a working feature on previous models. I spoke to them once about it and the person I was talking to confirmed my concern by testing it on his own devices. It could also be true that maybe I'm the only person who uses that feature, lol. I'll call them back...

I was hoping the "Units" setting not changing from profile to profile would be corrected but, unfortunately not. Maybe on the next version, lol.

What issues does version 3.00 cover? Anybody know? Garmin Express only shows the update, not the details. I can't google an update beyond 2.80. I wonder what bugs, if any, have been adressed?
