  1. I'm a little confused. I need some clarification on the rules. On the wild card letters. We have three of them: E 0XX R; H 0XX A; and B 0XX N If we recover the designations starting with the wild card letters of R, A or N are we suppose to recover only triangulation stations for them. For example: E 0XX R- We could use ME2699 But not ME1901 For H 0XX A- ME2893 this one would be okay. ME1772 would be wrong. For B 0XX N- ME2796 good but QW0599 wouldn't work. Jo Ann
  2. We recovered MF0073 - A142 - 1947 I have a question. Would a designation of NE 32-40-10 work for N 3XX ? Jo Ann
  3. 50 FTR 10 5 65 I though you all forgot about that one but I see there is one who is(was)thinking. I have added it to the list of points now. Good going on your FTF. We thought we were going for a FTF for week 2. It turned out to be a crumbling culvert and the benchmark was gone. Jo Ann
  4. One Benchmark for Week 2 MF0114, M140, 1947 Jo Ann
  5. We have one benchmark to log in for week one. It's one we recovered previously in 2006. Recovering the benchmark this time, we included the GPS in the picture. ME1749 R 139 We logged on it geocaching.com Jo Ann
  6. What if R3 was randomly drawn. Then you find a benchmark with the designation STEWARD RM 3. Would that work for R3? Or say E2 and you found a benchmark with the designation JASPER 2. Would that work for E2?
  7. I also think that since the fine is so minimal, even if prosecution was enforced, what's a few $250 fines to a project that costs tens of thousands or millions of dollors? Brendan
  8. I have always been curious as to the procedure to set BMs. For instance, you have a long run of them alongside some road roughly a mile apart. Did a local concrete contractor go through first and set all the monuments and the surveyors came back later or did the surveyors themselves set them and come back later to measure. Also, many times you see where a local firm replaced a destroyed RM. Did they get reimbursed somehow? Inquiring minds. Brendan
  9. Boxes are used in Chicago by both Chicago and NGS. ME1796 box ME2751 box Brendan
  10. Hear hear! And if we are around, we will probably be having problems with BMs of a different sort. Merry Christmas, Brendan
  11. I guess I will send this one to Deb. Maybe some paperwork was filed on it that never made it into the database. Thanks, Brendan
  12. The answer (and much more) is in the FAQ Brendan
  13. I went benchmarking with CoyoteTrust last Friday and we found MF1498. When I was going through the pictures later, it appeared to me that the disk looked like a newer type than the type used around the monumented date (1956). Another oddity was the date 1993 stamped next to the 1956 date as is found on resets and looks to have been done at the same time. The stamping description doesn't mention the 1993 either. The datasheet does not indicate any activity in 1993. I am reluctant to log this as a find with NGS. What do the experts think? Thanks, Brendan
  14. Looking at the aerial, it seems to be a top secret subdivision now . Brendan
  15. Wow! Cook county (largest by population) only has 985 and McLean (largest area) has only 391. Brendan
  16. Thank you. We (Illinois/Indiana) have some counties with a small number (30) and some very large ones (391). It is nice to see logged v total to see if it is good for hunting (or at least logging). I realize perusing the datasheets gives some indication, its just that a visual is easier to digest. It is also interesting to see from a nationwide perspective as well. Thanks, Brendan
  17. I realize that percent found would be relatively useless, but I meant all logs; not just found logs. It just struck me while viewing the graphic that it would be interesting to see at a glance if a particular county was thoroughly searched or not. Brendan
  18. The graphic with a color indicating the number of logs is a good indicator, but is there a graphic showing the percent of logs compared to the total benchmarks available per county? Thanks, Brendan
  19. Which county is needed? Is it the southeast Michigan ones? Brendan
  20. I wasn't running it from winzip, just trying to unzip it. I got by using unzip from the command line. Brendan
  21. It crashes Winzip. Do you have the source so I can compile it for Mac (if it doesn't have win32 stuff)? Thanks, Brendan
  22. Not quite as cool as finding an actual one, but I did find this one while scouring some 1938 aerial shots of Chicago. It is pointing to what is now Midway airport which used to be Chicago Municipal airport. Brendan
