In 6 months, only 3 people ever did, and two of them were this week. At first (before BassoonPilot proved them wrong) many began accusing us of faking it....that the cache never even existed. Even today, I know that some people have their doubts. This ever happen to you? Here is the cache I am referring to.... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=8249 I think most new cachers and some old caches just dont understand the rating system. Its not the systems fault its pretty clear. However, it took me a few caches before I knew exactally what to expect. Also the fact that some cache hiders dont take the time to understand the rating system doesn't help either. A cache with a terrain rating of 1 1/2 and the cache was on a tree branch over a 20-30 foot drop. Read over a few entries. Some people expected to find a difficulty rated 4 1/2 cache in less than an hour? Some people thought that a terrain rated 2 1/2 cache was going to be a hard cache to get to? See what I mean. Peoples expectations are NOT in line with the actual cache ratings. - Lone Rangers

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-- I took the one less traveled by, ... http://www.arlut.utexas.edu/~banks/geocache.html As long as the bill stays in caches that will be fine. However, we have enough trouble keeping plastic toys and stuffed bears in caches. I think a dollar bill will disappear from geocaching quicker than any plastic toy or stuffed bear! At least you'll have WG to track the bill when it doesn't get put back in a cache. - Lone Rangers
  8. quote:Originally posted by lowbluethunder: It is wrong for you to use the wheresgeorge site for this. You are not even passing the bill around. Even if you were passing the bill it is not circulating the bill in the normal course of business as required by wheresgeorge. I don't think that we geocachers should be using the caches to pass our wheresgeorge bills. In fact, I think that we should all discourage the use of the caches for marked bills and do every thing that we can to stop this activity including reporting offending serial numbers to wheresgeorge and destroying marked bills found in caches. Just my 2 cents worth. BTW... I have already reported your bugs serial number to wheresgeorge and asked that it be removed from the database. Placing WG bills in caches is natural circulation. I've placed US coins and bills along with other nations currency (coins and bill) as cache bait. If your thinking that natural circulation is get bill from bank or as change and then spend bill. Well, your wrong. Georgers have left bills on busses, in malls, in books in the library, all kinds of places in hope that someone will find it. "Destroying marked bills found in caches"? Call me cheap if you want but any money I take from a cache is either going in my collection or will be spent. However I do agree, ESFKids did step beyond the nature of WG. Using WG to track something other than a bill is using the site in way that the site created does not intend it to be used. IF you would have kept the bill with R2D2 or the bill was the TB then there might be some room for argument. But, assigning a serial number to R2D2 isn't how WG was ment to be used. ESFKids if you are looking for a cheap alternative to travel bugs, like it sais on R2D2s webpage, then you should learn HTML, PHP, and MySQL. Then buy some web space somewhere cheap and write your own tracking database! Oh, and you shouldn't have posted the link. Considering what you wrote in your post you knew that you were going start some contraversy. Without the links the 'WG Police' would have to at least have do some work to find your TB. Instead you lead them right to it. - Lone Rangers

Where you place the cache and whats in the cache. For example here in Sicily the larges wild animal we have on the island is fox. Place a rock on the cache and its going to get disturbed. Australia has big animals however the enviroment tends to keep them for disturbing caches if I'm understanding the posts that I'm reading from Australians. If your in the states however the animals seem to be a little more misbehaved. It seems you have to be careful not just about putting food in caches or even putting things that smell like food in caches. But, anyhting that has a scent of any kind can attract an animal in the states. You just need to know the area you are going to place or hunt a cache in and take the proper precautions. - Lone Rangers

    personal travel bug

I think it would be easier for Jeremy to just add a field to the "My Cache Page" that calculates the mileage for you based upon your logging a cache. Should be the same technology as the TB; just without the confusion! Could be one of the member's features or something... Just a thought... B. And a map! - Lone Rangers

  24. If you can't get to the cache itself in a wheelchair then the overall terrain rating should be no lower than 2. A terrain rating of 1 means that someone in a wheelchain can find the cache. A terrain rating of 1 1/2 means that someone on crutches can easily find the cache. quote:Originally posted by Alan2: I had a pretty simple cache that except for the final few feet would have been a 1 or 1 1/2 Terrain but I rated it a 2 1/2. The last leg was on shoreline rocks piled up a 10 foot slope. It could be dangerous when dry; treacherous when wet. I posted the following in the non-encrypted section. THE LAST FEW FEET CAN BE DANGEROUS. WATCH YOUR STEP. ADULTS ONLY FOR FINAL LEG OTHERWISE OK FOR KIDS. I don't want to be responsible for someone getting hurt because they aren't reading the spoilers that are encrypted. I believe we should forewarn hunters to potentially dangerous situations especialy when the Terrain is not otherwise worthy of a 3, 4 or 5. It should be up-front not hidden in the "cheat" section. - Lone Rangers
