  1. Up until about a week ago, We had a cacher in our area, ibwacko that holds a bit of a legacy for frustrating caches. This kinda thing would be right up his alley. On an unrelated note, if you happen to live in the Tampa, Florida area, be ready for headaches...
  2. Isn't that against Groundspeak rules, using a cache for commercial gain? I could be wrong, but something sounds hinky here...
  3. We actually never cache on our own. We make a point of making sure that this is something we do to spend time together, and use it as a solid excuse for "us" time. That being said, we went out and cached today, as our little happy valentine's to each other. We attempted (and failed like crazy) to locate the first part of a 5/5 puzzle cache, then decided to collect some lonely travel bugs for a Meet & Greet event on Saturday. We tend to use Geocaching get-togethers as an excuse for "Date Night".
  4. We're actually in the process of rewriting some old logs. When we started, we didn't exactly know the do's and dont's of log writing. As we've made more finds, we find ourselves looking more from a CO's point of view. Would I, having taken the time to find a hiding place, make my cache, fill it with goodies, and post it online, be happy with someone only bothering with a 4 letter response? The thing that really changed our perspective was a cache over in our neck of the woods: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f6076bd5-ecdc-4482-955d-f986d58474b7&log=y Might not be a bad idea to look at instituting a "Log Improvement Boot Camp" of your own...
  5. A great example is the parks in our neck of the woods. Sandy Bottom Nature park in Hampton, VA and, to a larger degree, Newport News Park in Newport News, VA have a great system set up for caching. They have a permit system set up, and every cache in the park is labeled as such. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=8a3b558f-38ec-4109-a360-3092df26c278&log=y&decrypt= Might not be a bad idea to suggest a similar system, to make sure the park rangers are aware of where they are, and have an idea of what's going on when they catch folks wandering off in the bushes. The biggest suggestion I would give is trying to make sure the rangers patrolling the area have been educated on the sport.
  6. I don't think many reviewers (none that I am aware of) really care about the FTF game, frankly. I'm relatively certain that any Reviewer that shanghai'd FTF's like that would be bludgeoned to death with Lock-n-Lock containers... Just sayin...
  7. We're of the opinion that "TFTC" is a phrase to avoid like the plague. With the two of us looking to put out a number of caches soon, we've gotten more and more into the mindset of looking at logs from the perspective of the cache owner. If you took the time to find a place to hide a cache and go through the steps to make it findable, the least we could do is take a fraction of that amount of time to make you feel like the time spent posting the cache wasn't wasted. We're actually looking at going back and expanding older logs we wrote to get rid of our "TFTC" logs from when we were starting out. Part of the reason we've been making more of an effort is because we attempted our first 5/1 cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f6076bd5-ecdc-4482-955d-f986d58474b7&log=y Put a different perspective on things... (Also, if you need a laugh, read the logs on this one)
  8. We have one around here that has that same kind of request. They decided to make it a Premium Member only cache, as your more serious cachers are usually more apt to follow posted guidelines.
  9. The trackable issue makes the most sense on our part. Say we activate a Geocoin we've paid $25 for (and we've paid that much for some). We would feel a lot more comfortable dropping it somewhere that we know is visited by folks that know what's up with trading rules, and are more likely to play along and send it on its way. There's never a guarantee that it won't go missing, but PMO caches are, IMHO, a safer bet for trackables. On that note, would you guys consider a TB whose mission is to hop from PMO cache to PMO cache bad form? Maybe attach it to a little velvet rope or VIP tag?
  10. Cool, nice to see others blogging too. Mine is Geocaching Treasures I need to get it updated but it is hard to get out in the winter with my Fibro.
  11. I chose Kesara because it means "young and young at heart" and that is how I feel. I feel younger than I am and my hubby is younger than me so it kinda fits who I am. Him on the other hand, just wanted something cool and that flowed with my name...
  12. I totally know what you mean. I put handmade chainmaille bracelets in mine. I like the fact that I personally make what goes into them and it makes it special. Plus, you can never beat handmade items because you know someone took the time to create something instead of just throwing junk in there.
  13. I've bought some and just waiting for them to arrive. But some of them I bought in doubles so I can keep one and then put one in caches.
  14. There is a list on here where you can buy coins from... Someone should be able to provide the link since I can't remember it. I have an amazing coin that I would love but I already know the cache it is going in next. But then I think that I have a coin order already coming... What I do is buy coins in doubles so that I can keep one and then activate and travel one.
  15. Well we are now officially a Premium Member!! Hubby bought me the membership for my birthday so now I am so ready to have all the cool stuff and this is perfect since we are planning a trip to Nags Head tomorrow and then to a local theme park Saturday. This will be great because I have plans to drop off a specialized TB. It'll only be a short detour... I hope.... He also bought me my own camo'd backpack. He even got it in one of my favorite camo patterns too, Real Tree Hardwoods!! AND it says Remington on it!!! I LOVE Remington. (Can you tell I love guns, plus I worked in the Camo dept of bass Pro...) I am planning on getting my own handheld GPS for Christmas. Yeah, I might be just a wee bit excited....
  16. I am also very reluctant to be in large groups of people, I get severe anxiety attacks. But I have been considering going to one of my local events but I keep going back and forth on if I really want to go. I would probably do the same thing, just go and meet a few people, look around and when things get too overwhelming head out. I would hate to have to explain myself once I had already been there and then not be believed.
  17. Thank you all. Thank you for helping me get that log fixed. Now when we go and get it, we can do it right...
  18. Hi everyone, we are brand new to this and just wanted to stop by and say Hi. We have found our first 2 caches. (I know it says 3 but we accidentally marked the wrong one, so that is going to be our next stop at the beginning of the week, as soon as I get over this cold.) I am very excited about this, as it gives me a chance to get out and hike and get some exercise. I have Fibro so this is great for me to take my mind off the constant pain and try to work through the condition. I have been wanting to do this for many years and my husband just kinda set it into motion. So I hope to get to know some of you and I'm glad that I can be a part of a great community of people who enjoy the same things that I do.
