  1. 1000 caches in PQ?! Wow, at this rate I'll never make it into the Penasquitos Canyon Hall of Fame. That would be Pocket Queries for Garmin GPSrs. I just saw it on the Garmin update page. Not caches in PQ Canyon... PQGT
  2. Anybody up for something a little different? I'm creating San Diego's first Geo Car Rally. A little driving, a little caching, a little puzzle solving. Maybe I could get TT to jump for joy (or maybe even cry a little) because there are no life lines in this one (if he happens to be in town). Oh, I will post a phone number if you get lost, but the Finish is a secret. So come one, come all - GC1MKVG - on Sat April 4 at 10AM sharp. Meet at the Park N Ride off Scripps Poway Parkway in front of Chili's. It's just a short little drive in the country from the cacher who brought you the Cruella de Vil cache, you know, that little walk in the woods... Oh, this is also a Farewell party for Beta Eagle 1 who has to move to Wash DC at the end of April. And Hof05 should be back from Iraq, so give him a big warm geo-welcome home. Hope to see y'all there for the fun and festivities. A BBQ Picnic (hotdogs and drinks, non alcoholic) will be waiting for you at the finish, if you find it (don't forget I'll have that cell phone on in case you get lost). You may bring extra food in the form of a picnic pot luck if you are so inclined. And trophies for the whiners, sorry, winners. PQGT and DTN
  3. Car driver enthusiasts unite with cachers. DTN92129 and I are putting on what I think is the first San Diego Geo Car Rally. I know there are some up in LA, but we don’t have one down here. The event will be on Saturday April 4th in the morning. Start time will be 10AM, but you must be at there before then for instructions. Check out the basic information at GC1MKVG. You will need a Driver and Navigator at a minimum, but you can have as many people in the car as you can squeeze in legally. We are going to have a BBQ at the Finish with Hot Dogs and non-alcoholic beverages. If you want to bring some Pot Luck food, be my guest. Chips, cookies, veggies, whatever. The Finish will be at a park, but that is a secret. There will also be some caches along the way. Caches will be activated After the Event. So make sure you put your individual names down in the logs. I’ll provide links to the caches on the Events page afterwards. I’ll post some more information on driving directions information as we make them up. This is also an event to say good-bye to Beta Eagle 1. He is leaving us and moving to the Washington DC area for a job at the end of April. Also, Hof05 will be returning from Iraq around this time. We’ll have to welcome him back into our fold. His return will depend on the US Military, but I’m hoping he will be back by this time. So come one, come all. And join in the fun. PQGT and DTN
  4. I made a mistake when I said this was tied to Opening day at the lake. That actually happened this past weekend (I know cuz I was stuck in traffic Saturday). The caching event (two days) is now not on the same weekend. 28 and 29 June. I spent Sunday with Habu! scouting places for him and his team to place caches. We also did some cache maintenance on some of his caches from last year! I didn't realize this was a chamber of commerce sanctioned event. It will be good folks and again I recommend doing it..... Pass the word!!! Traffic won't be as bad as I thought! There is also a meet and greet event at a restaurant/pub Saturday night. I was planning on going to meet up with Travelin' Gnomes from Placerville, but Trekker Daughter just left for Europe and I've been out of town too many times lately. Time to get some work done around the house. I keep saying I'll go the next time, but really, the next time I will go. This will be the third time I'll miss this event. Travelin' Gnomes say it is reallly fun. PQGT
  5. What are you taking about? There aren't any spiders in there. he he That isn't what I heard! They are only little ones. Most are smaller than your hand! Y'all gonna die! I was that Tall Person. Not fun until I got a pointed stick. I suggest putting the smallest person first and everyone else crawl. When I walked through the middle of one of those webs that make a snapping sound as it breaks - I wasn't fazed after I frantically wiped my head while everyone else as laughing. No spiders ended up in my hair. So it's no problem. But watch out for the Door. Who knows where that leads... There's a door, eh? Aw geez. You don't have to go through it. Or do you? Mooo-ha-ha-ha. Do you know what you have to do for this cache? It took us a good 20 minutes to even get started. We knew what to look for, but very difficult to initially find it. Give yourself at least a good hour or more for this cache. Plus bring a long stick to swing up and down in front of you to snap the webs. Everyone else should walk behind the leader, unless they want to get freaked out. I also recommend getting a long twig when walking around and tickle someone on the back of their neck or hair and plug your ears for the screams. Ahhh, you don't need long sticks! You just need a tall person to lead!

I read that FATBOY hasn't gone in there yet, where is that guy? I bet he'd help us clear out the SPIDERS !! I've done it twice myself. I highly recommend it. But I don't need to do it a third time (only logged it once). In fact I highly recommend any DAK Girls cache. I think Beta Eagle 1 hasn't done it yet either. Not sure about Hof05. You could try those two guys. They would both love it. Does anyone know what happened to the DAK Girls?

  9. My first posting, so we'll see how this goes. I hope this ends up in the right place. For those interested, my daughter (Trekker #2) was interviewed by The Nexus which is the newspaper at Westview High School for Issue #9, Vol 6 Apr 21, 2008. She was interviewed about Geocaching. When I get a chance, I will scan and post the article. A couple of facts are off a little, but it's mostly correct and it's interesting to read. Especially since I got to see how my daughter sees this sport.
