New Here... Having Some Trouble W/ Etrex Legend
birddog14 replied to r8dr_hntr's topic in GPS technology and devices
I don't have any problems with my 60C and GSAK, but if I tried to send data by the serial cord to my eTrex legend I get the same error. If I close the hotsync icon (from my Palm software) on bottom right of my toolbar of my computer that shows what is running, it works fine. For some reason they conflict for me, I don't know why but maybe it is because they are both serial port connections. -
I can understand someone finding a jeep TB that does not cache very often and possibly holding it up to a month. But there is a one person who seems to just search Jeep TBs around hmy area. He is a new member that found geocaching from the Jeep website. He has 38 finds and has grabbed 8 Jeep TBs. In a few of his logs he even mentioned that he was looking for the jeep TB and it was already taken. Currently he has 6 Jeep TBs in his possession and has held one of them since 8-11.

I have noticed lately in my area (DFW, TX) that there are very few white Jeep TBs coming up in caches. Now I realize that a lot of cachers in our area search or track white Jeep TBs in order to go get them, so when one is placed in a cache and logged it does not stay very long. But I have noticed that one person in particular has been grabbing Jeep TBs and holding numerous ones (up to 6 at a time) and holding them up to 5 weeks before placing them in another cache. This prevents others from entering the contest. The whole contest is to grab a Jeep TB, enter the program and pass it along so someone else can enter. The contest is not to see who can collect the most. It even says on the Jeep TB page - Current GOAL: Log your visit, and move me to a new geocache! I have sent this person a message twice stating that they have held certain Jeep TBs for over a month. I did not get reply either time, but they did place the Jeep TB in a cache shortly after that. So I knew they got my message.

Garmin Topo And Mapsource Together?
birddog14 replied to rrules's topic in GPS technology and devices
when you say you cannot view the topo and street info at the same time does that mean for all the maps or just blocks sharing both info (topo and streets) also if you have areas that have both topo and streets uploaded can you switch back and forth? and if so, how? I have heard that the most detailed map will be shown for an area -
didn't know GSAK will unzip when you drop it in, I will have to try that.

in GSAK when you click on send waypoints, you can change the icons on the LH side

I have been using winzip. I remember when it used to be free. well, it is starting to give me a nag screen when I use the evaluation version. I need a free unzip tool to unzip my pocket queries. what do you suggest?

I send the waypoints to my GPSr from GSAK with a 10 character smart name (Garmin 60C).....then I look them up on my palm by waypoint name since I don't have them in my GPSr in waypoint code....once found I log found and it sends them to my found folder on my palm....then when I get home, I convert the waypoints from the waypoint name to the waypoint code GCXXX then I log them on gc.com

birddog14 replied to ClydeE's topic in GPS technology and devices
thanks, got my registration number earlier today I can't wait for the next version if you are able to remove the ", it will make it a lot easier to find them in cachemate one more ?, when I download points into my GPSr and palm, when I view log, there is only one 1 log per cache on my palm, is there a place where I can designate it to load more than one? -
