  1. I started caching before I met my husband. I introduced him to it, but I think he just does it most of the time to humor me. He DID say that for my anniversary present next month, I can pick out a new GPSr =) I'm a lucky girl...
  2. Recently I grabbed a bug from someone, and I'm not sure if doing that was "inconsiderate" or "impatient". I took the bug from a cache where it was not logged in, waited about 4-5 days, and it was still shown in this person's posession, and not in the cache i found it in. So I grabbed it, logged it into that cache, and logged it out. I did this because I was wanted to place it in another cache, and if i hadn't "grabbed it" it would have been 3 steps behind... so the next person to find it would have had to wait on both of us. It seemed like the best thing to do for the TB was to grab it and get the logs up to date. You might also consider that the person who grabbed it from you so quickly may be new to the sport or new to TB's, and may just not realize how it works. They may just be anxious to log that they have it and may not have thought that you could be on vacation or something... Just a thought.
  3. i'll take 3 please. thanks
  4. I can relate. I too am a 21-yr old female who is leery of caching alone. My hubby loves to go, but I have the summer off and he has to work every day! I'm in the same boat, although I am in Indiana. I don't know many people around here either.. Good luck.
  5. I'm kind of new to the forums here so I hope I am posting this in the right place. Please let me know if I'm not... Anyway, here's my question: I was logging a find in which I encrypted part of my log because it mentioned something that gave a clue as to the hiding place. I got a friendly email from the cache owner asking that I remove that part, because he got an email from the next finder who told him he would have had more fun finding it if it weren't for my clue. Of course I went back to make sure I did encrypt it, and indeed I did. It wasn't a big deal, I agreed and immediately edited my log to remove that part. However, my question now is did I misunderstand the etiquette for this? I thought the whole point of the encryption feature is so people can avoid seeing clues if they choose not to. So this person who complained about my log had to decrypt what I wrote. What other reason would someone decrypt something? The next finder is experienced (500+ finds), so I am puzzled as to why he would even read it if he didn't want spoilers... Maybe I'm missing something here. Enlighten me please
  6. hi there, i've been geocaching sporadically since 2002, but have never met another geocacher (other than the people I converted myself..haha)! i never really participate on the forums either... but this sounds like a fun event! My question is: do most of you people who are going know each other? My hubby and I are from New Castle, IN and the idea of meeting other geocachers sounds like fun... Thanks for the info! Amanda
  7. Hi there. I have been geocaching for a while but never really read the forums here. I used to live in Cleveland, but now I live in Indiana. I just thought I'd say hi. My husband and I would like to meet up with some other geocachers in our area sometime. Have a nice day Amanda
  8. i'm just east of Cleveland... just moved from Chardon to Mentor
  9. i think im the youngest to post on this thread... i'm 18, i go caching with my friend who's 18 also, and my bf who's 25.
  10. It means that the descriptions (or pictures, links, etc) might spoil the suprise. It might give away too much info, and ruin some of the fun for you if you are planning on hunting the cache yourself.
  11. from cleveland ohio. i found out about geocaching from jish, and was hooked after taking one look at this website. i've recently converted my boyfriend into a geocacher as well.
  12. Hi there. I haven't been geocaching too long (8 attempts/7 finds so far), and I haven't paid much attention to the "travel bug" until now. I read the FAQ and posts on this board, and I'm just trying to understand a little better what makes a good travel bug. I'd like to hide my own cache eventually, once I find a few more. As for the travel bug: Can you attach whatever you'd like? For example - What if I would like to make a "poetry bug" and attach a small notebook to the bug, asking everyone to jot down a poem (limerick, haiku, whatever) and once full, return back to the beginning place? Is this something that would work? Of course it would have to be small enough to fit in most caches, and instructions. But besides that, are there any other things I should know? Thanks in advance for your help!
