  3. I'd love to, but my new laptop came with vista. I'm hoping that someone has found a way around this. Sounds like there are many of us who are facing this dilemma.
  4. I was using plucker just fine with windows xp, but now I cannot get it to run on Vista. the error I got the first time was.......D:\wx242\src\common\file.cpp(356):assert"Is Opened"()"failed. once I somehow got past that warning and it appeared that I had plucker all set up and ready to go, I click "finish" with the "launch plucker desktop" bix checked, and the folliwing comes up at the same time as the desktop app........Cant remove file'C:\Program files\plucker\plucker.ini'(error 5:access is denied). Anyone know what can be done about this? I already tried the compatibility check in the control panel. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
  5. I had been paperless caching for a while with my Palm Tungsten, Plucker, GPX Spinner and windows XP. All was great in the world! Enter Vista.... I keep getting errors with plucker. It just won't work. Spinner seems to be doing what it needs to though. Any suggestions? Perhaps a new program that will work with Vista? Thanks!
  6. Thank you all for your responses, I am looking forward to my trip!! As TopangaHiker mentioned, we are definitely visiting Bryce, Arches and hopefully the Grand Canyon. I'd love to attend an event out there but they all seem so far from where we are staying.
  7. Hi, I'm having a tough time trying to get GSAK files onto my Palm E2. When I try to export as an HTML file, it wants to send to an SD card instead of the Palm during HotSync. It won't let me change the destination either. Maybe someone can walk me through the process. Thanks!
  8. That feature is no longer available. Full discussion can be found here. Any idea as to what is a good program to use for a Palm device?
  9. Hi, I will be staying near Zion for 2 weeks this September and of course, I'll be caching as well! I'm from New England and am wondering if there are any precautions that I may need to take while out there. For example, I won't think twice about fishing around under a rock in my area, but if I do that there will I get stung by a scorpion? Struck by a poisonous snake? I guess I am wondering what wildlife I may want to look out for while in/near Zion, or any other info that may be helpful to me. Any tips would be appreciated!
  10. Is it just me, or is the option to get the e-book for your Palm device no longer in existence? That was one of the things I liked most about premium membership. Any help out there?
  11. Hi, BerkshireHiker and I will be Honeycaching or Geo-mooning near Zion NP from 9/7-9/22. We are hoping to get to an event out there if there are any closeby while we are there. Also, if anyone wants to move TB's or coins out to Massachusetts we'd be happy to let them tag along with us. Any help in locating events would be appreciated. Thanks! Crpnter1
  12. I just got the Tungsten E2 and used it for the first time over the weekend this past weekend. I'll never go back to my cache pages again! 200 caches into my GPSr and ALL the pages plus the last 3 logs for each cache into the Palm in about 3 minutes! The E2 is a nice unit and I also have a wi-fi card on the way for it. Incidentally, the TX with wi-fi costs a bit more than the E2 and a wi-fi. I bought my Palm on CircuitCity.com for $149 after a $50 rebate and a Palm brand wi-fi card at Gizmos2go.com for $60. (They go for $99 on Palm.com) I considered the Zire 72 as well, but there were a few things about it that did not suit me. Trust me, I will research a purchase for DAYS before I pull the trigger and I feel strongly that I made a good choice with the E2. If you're comfortable buying a used unit and saving a few bucks, keep in mind that you won't have any warranty if you buy used. Hope this helps.
  13. I have Mapsend Topo 3D. The background on my Explorist 600 is white and is supposed to be. It uploads with all of the details that you can see on you PC monitor, and you can select how much of it that you actually want to see on your GPSr screen. I don't believe that the 3D is available on your GPSr screen....why would you want it to be anyhow? It's TOPO software. I "only" have a 64 mb card in mine. I find that smaller sections of map for the active setup load faster and are less jumpy that a large map file. Example: I have my basemap consisting of my entire state of Massachusetts and about 50 miles into each surrounding state. That works very well for me. Hope this helps you.
  14. I started out with the EX 300 and upgraded to the 600 for the connectivity. My personal choice would be the 500 except that I love the electronic compass that the 600 has, which means that the needle will point you in the right direction even if you're standing still. I've seen the 600 online for as "little" as $299.00 on a few sites. Hope this helps
  15. I have the Explorist 600 and just purchased a Palm Tungsten E2. I run my pocket queries and save my cache pages using Mobipocket and read the query as an e-book. The E2 was $149 after rebate at Circuit City.com, the cheapest I could find for this unit. My other choice was the Palm Zire 72. The E2 seems to be working very well for what I need, and aside from a slight connectivity issue with my Ex600, that has been a good investment as well. Hope this helps.
  16. Ok, but if I try to save my *GPX files in my POI folder, it won't come up on my map. Can it be done in *LOC format? If I had 500 *LOC files that came up as poi's and it at least showed me the waypoint of the cache, I can look up the entire cache page on my Palm anyways.
  17. I have the Explorist 600 and cannot get the PC to recognize my GPSr either, and the cord is connected properly. In fact, there is no way to correctly connect it upside-down. (There's a flat spot on the cord side of the connector. I have to save my data to my SD card, then transfer things to the internal memory from that. It's an extra step but still alot easier than manually entering data.
  18. I have an Explorist 600 that I FINALLY took the time to start uploading those pocket queries onto. When I save individual queries in my Geocache folder, they of course come up as individual files. You can only have ONE file selected as a default in "active setup" to have the caches show up on the map. For example, I have one pocket query for 100 caches from my home coords and another for a separate area that I will be visiting this weekend. I can only choose between one or the other to be active on my map. Any way possible to combine the 2 so that both are visible simultaneously? ANother question is that I tried to upload a 500 cache query and it said that some info could not be read due to amount of info. Can a larger query be uploaded in *loc than in *GPX? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
  19. I guess I'm looking for the fastest and/or easiest way to put cache pages onto my PDA. (software, method, etc.)
  20. I just purchased a Palm Tungsten E2 so that among many other things, I can load the full cache pages on it and eliminate carrying around my paper files. Anyone familiar with mobipocket downloads for this unit?
  21. Hi, I have the Explorist 600 and had a similar problem with the cable. I took the small washer off of the part that threads into the unit and it works fine now. It's unfortunate that I had to do it, but it worked. I think that the USB part of the cable is messed up as well. My PC doesen't recognize my GPSr when I plug it in. In order to upload my pocket queries, I have to save them to my SD card, then transfer them over to the internal memory once I re-install it. It's a pain but still better than manually entering them all in.
  22. Thanks for the input everyone! Now as soon as I have a little time I will try it!
