  1. Started with a Garmin eTrex camo. Good price online.Got the old federal tax return and now am the proud owners of a map60csx. Still learning it and dont have any mapsource cd's yet but it did put me 5' from the only cache we found using it. I understand about the multiples. I wouldn't sell the eTrex.
  2. Found the new maps to be quite user friendly. When it takes a while to load I just figure I have a bad connection. Reconnect and it solves my problems. I love the satelite pics as far as access points. Too many times driving around the block looking for access when I'm 100' from GZ and in front of a row of 5 or 10 homes. " Excuse me can I just cut through here? I'm on a high tech scavenger hunt" usually won't win any converts. LOL.
  3. My nieces and I often go caching as a way to pass the time. It's pretty cool to hang with them and they love the swag that people place in their caches. We are over 60 find's now and they have been with me for more than half of them. If Caity has the gps in the car, Aly gets it in the field and vice versa. Caity is 8 and gets a little distracted at times. Aly is 10 and does a little better...unless Caity can spot the cache first. On a good day the competition can be fierce. I wouldn't trade the time we spend together for anything. I think a gps for the girls is in the future.
  4. We had our Billy Bear TB logged out but not removed from the cache description. I went into the logs and removed it, posting a note to that effect. The finder also told us in the TB log where it was so we also posted a note there and loggid it in to the cache. It ws just an inexperience mistake. Some people don't realize that there is more to TB's than you expect at first. It's easy to track them if you only have a few out there but if you have a lot I bet it can get kind of hairy. (Better get that TB on my desk on it's way tomorrow!)
  5. It's us. We tried to get a liltle help and be a little cryptic. Why bother. We are who we are. We're not ashamed of who or what we are. We seek caches. Want to do something about it? Caity (my blonde bombshell) will take care of that! And whomsoever may outlast her will be taken care of by Aly (her sister). All in fun, we're here and we're having a blast. See us and say Hi. Please. The only thing more fun than finding a cache is finding a cache in the company of another brother or sister cacher! The joy found in seeing a fellow geocacher intently focusing on their GPSr while relentlessly advancing on your position after you have found a cache is amazing! A face placed with an avatar when you don't visit na=many events ia great!
  6. I'm sorry but I just don't aquaint #'s with how successful I am as a geocacher. it's real hot and humid today. I went caching. Found 2, DNF'd 2. No biggie. Am I crazy or did this become a competitive thing? I get what I can. If I don't I log my DNF's and hope that it wasn't me. If it's too hot Caity doesn't want to go. She can't hack it. Aly doesn't like it cold. I hate the vines and thorn's and tick's. We do what we can. And most importantly when and where we want. Freedom of choice. Our country was founded on it. Embrace it.
  7. My personal faves are signature items. The only dupes we have are devil duckies in various colors. We leave a wooden nickel. Happy to trade with out of area cachers. Drop a line. Best find was a rubber ladybug. Squeeze it and goo comes out of the eyes. Caity likes it. I want to do a book TB. We'll see.
  8. Theye are your caches. You make the rules. We find the caches. We put our items- and I think they are all signature items- in the cache if they will fit. Take the time to do regular maintenance and remove the items you don't approve of or consider appropriate. Do a little research and become a numismatist if you have the time. But most of all please ENJOY this wacky pursuit of ours. It is a lot of fun, as it should be.
  9. Being pretty much computer illiterate I figured out that an avatar is the picture on the posts? Am I close? I don't have one but most do. Any ideas for a dragonfly, a ladybug, and a fire helmet? Caity loves ladybugs, Aly dragonflies and I'm a firefighter. Thanks for the help.
  10. I like the hints and I must admit they do help when you're wandering aimlessly in the woods. The girls love decoding them too. We are pretty new to this with around 30 finds under our belt's. Every bit of help is gratefully accepted. Not always used right away but welcomed none the less. After a half mile walk today we decided to return to the truck to check the clue. It didn't help a bit so maybe in the future we will copy it down and bring it when we start walking and use it only if we have too. The girls are VERY competitive about finding the caches so I am sure there may be a little subterfuge between them when it comes to reading the hint's. Time will tell.
  11. We always TRY to log what we take and what we leave. But there are certain instances when there have been mistakes made. TB's, geocoins and FTF are important but regular swag is no biggie. We do keep signature items when we can, but WG$ are passed along as soon as practical.
