  1. They put it in the cache on 8/21 and posted a note on the TB page but not a drop log. Since they had time to post a note, I'll guess that they maybe made it a note by accident and e-mail them asking that they switch it to a drop. For future reference for myself, you're saying that, after waiting a reasonable amount of time and not hearing back from the previous holder, I should: 1. Post a "Grab from current holder" 2. Place it in the cache I found it in using a note and not a "placed" log 3. Post a "retrieved" log and take it in its way...can I do that since it wasn't put in the cache with a placed log? Thanks. Right, if you have already logged your Found it, Grab the bug, post a Note on the cache you found it in and here you can either do a Drop and Retrieve or just select action Visited. This will give the bug credit for having been at the cache. Thanks for the clarification.

  3. I grabbed a TB from a cache today and when I went to log it on GC.com it still is listed as being held by the person that previously had it. Should I do a "Grab it from current holder" log or a "Discovered it" log and how to I assure that it gets credit for being in the cache that I found it in? Thanks.
  4. Hi, When I started caching, I created a single premium account for myself. As time has passed, I have started to involve my wife and kids in the hobby. I ended up changing my account name to Micachebandits to reflect the fact that there actually were more than one person in the team. As my kids get older, I can see them wanting their own individual accounts but I'd still like to track outings that we do as a family. Wouldn't it be nice if Geocaching.com would let us create teams which individuals can be assigned to allowing us to track finds as individuals as well as a family (team)? Does this functionality already exist? Thanks for reading.
  5. The Geobeagle logging feature logs to coord.info with Textmarks which finally puts your log into your field notes at Geocaching.com. For more info on how to get it all working, read this write-up here: http://coord.info/textmark.aspx Once the field notes are there on the website and when you get back home to your PC, you can click post and the the finds or DNFs with get put with their associated caches. It's been working well for me so far and the Geobeagle folks are very receptive to suggestions on how they can improve their app. They even implemented a suggestion that I made which allows you to still log finds when you don't have cell or data coverage.
  6. Those people are actually having emails sent to their phones, not SMS text messages. Or some of them may have come up with an elaborate scheme to have their email application send out a text message. ...................... Oh, a comment on this one too. "Most" cell companies give you an e-mail address that you can send an e-mail to which gets converted to a SMS message and sent to your phone. Verizon, for example, is phonenumber@vtext.com. So, sending mail to 5175551212@vtext.com will send a text message to the person with the cell number of (517) 555-1212. Also a good way to send your friends text messages without burning your allowed messages in your monthly plan...assuming you don't have an unlimited plan.
  7. Geobeagle (http://code.google.com/p/geobeagle/) the app I use with my Android G1 phone integrates txtmarks and that's a key part of my paperless setup. Get to a find using Geobeagle, which also functions as a GPS unit, or using my Vista HCx then log the find in Geobeagle, it sends an SMS to textmarks which pops the message into my field notes and tweets my find to all my Twitter followers. It's great, I love it.
  8. There's a cache near me that I have logged before, but today, I see someone has put a travel bug in it. I'd like to go get the TB to take up north with me in two weeks. If I go back to the cache to get the bug, is it appropriate to log it as a find again? I know to log taking the bug, I'm asking about logging the cache. Thanks.
  9. Found a cache today and took the last spot in the log. Was a nano so there was no room to add more paper. I posted the find then I posted a request for maintenance? Was this the right thing to do? Thanks. The cache was GC1TCD2
  10. Tested and works fine on my Google Android phone (T-Mobile G1).
