  1. Does that mean that the problem is solved in Chrome or that viewing it in Explorer or Firefox solves the problem. In my case, Chrome still shows "Forbidden" although the profile is view-able in other browsers.
  2. Same problem here, and in addition, most if not all icons and photographs added to logs are currently inaccessible. Seems to have begun with yesterday's changes to geocaching.com
  3. If you need help in/near The Woodlands, let me know. teamtroglodyte@gmail.com
  4. Looks like JoeyBot has morphed into AutoJoey http://www.geocaching.com/profile/default....3f-7935310c712d
  5. We use %typ1%con1%drop2 for the "waypoint name" and %name for the "cache description format" when using GSAK in Mapsource export mode. This gives a waypoint such as TRTFMD (traditional regular . . .) and the complete name of the cache (ALLANABANANAs First Cache) in the note panel of the 60csx display.
  6. When "Super GPSBabel Plus Pro 3000" is available, I'll likely be standing in line to purchase it. In the interim, if there's anything you'd like to feed to my 2720 and see what it regurgitates, I'm game. Seems we were successful on a similar endeavor before.
  7. We recently posted a gripe about the new Street Pilot 2720 in this forum (8/26/05). We have since found that by exporting a .mps file from GSAK, importing it into our old Mapsource program (left over from our SP III) and then using Mapsource to transfer the data, waypoints can be loaded. It would be nice if they would transfer directly from GSAK, but this will work until something better comes along. I'm guessing that something would have to be added to GPSBabel to make that happen. Robert Lipe has mentioned that Garmin seems to be very fond of changing data formats, so I guess it's possible they've come up with another new one.
  8. horsegeeks is (are?) correct. By exporting a .mps from GSAK, importing it into the old Mapsource program left over from our SPIII and then using Mapsource to send it to the 2720, waypoints can be transferred. If you don't have Mapsource handy, Garmin will be happy to sell you their "Trip and Waypoint Manager" for a mere $30 or so, and it sounds like it should be capable of sending a .mps to the 2720, although I'd certainly talk to their tech support first, especially when I'm being asked to spend additional money to add functionality that should have been included on a unit with a suggested retail of well over $1000.
  9. We recently purchased a Street Pilot 2720. Briefly, all maps are loaded. There is no CD. The only thing you can use the USB connection for as provided is to upload so-called "custom POI's" which must be in a very specific .csv format. You cannot export waypoints directly from GSAK. We found a fairly convoluted way to load waypoints, but then they did not automatically appear on the map. Based on hints from a user of a similar unit, we have found that you can export a .mps file from GSAK, import it into Mapsource (which came with my old SPIII) and then transfer waypoints to the 2720. Hopefully Robert Lipe will address the issue at some point since it's probably a GPSBabel problem. As RL has pointed out, Garmin seems to change their data format at the drop of a hat, so it's probably changed again. Now that we've found a way to load them, the 2000 waypoints will certainly make life easier when adding waypoints for a trip. The old 500 waypoint limit on the SPIII was a nuisance. As we experiment with this thing, we may find an easier way to accomplish the task, but that's where it stands at the moment.
  10. Will it accept tab delimited files? (these do not have the quotes around each item) However, for absolute control over what gets generated to a CSV file use the TextOut function in the macro language. This function has the option to remove double quotes from all the exported fields. With the use of the quote function you could also have some fields output with double quotes and some without. Clyde, the promptness of your response was unbelievable! It accepts the tab delimited file, however it doesn't process correctly. It tells me there are no locations within 500 miles. I guess it needs the commas, even though it accepts a file tabs. Looks like I'm about to get an education in macros. Or you could just do a search and replace in the generated tab delimited file and replace all tabs with commas (just in case some of the descriptions have a comma inside them you may want to replace commas with a space first. ) Well, that works. Here's hoping I can find an easier way to do this though. Thanks again Clyde!

  12. We just received our Garmin 2720 which was to be a replacement for our Street Pilot III. So far I'm extremely disappointed with it - actually that's an understatement. I'm infuriated with it. It seems Garmin has done everything possible to make it unusable as a caching tool. With the old SP-III, we could upload waypoints from GSAK and they would be displayed on the map along with their names as you drove along. GSAK doesn't seem capable of uploading to the 2720 via its USB interface. The device is recognized, but nothing is transferred. Garmin provides a loader, but it requires that the info be exported as a .CSV and then transferred with the loader (and it chokes on the "quotes" that GSAK inserts into its .CSV exports. Even when the data is in place, it does not seem to be displayed on the map when you are driving. Also the SP III allowed us to drive along with "nearest waypoint" selected and it would show a list of the closest waypoints with their distance and direction from present location. It doesn't look like you can do that either. The owners manual for the 2720 has been "dumbed down" to a point where it too is almost useless. So, if you're planning to use a 2720 for caching purposes, you might want to hold off on that purchase till more reports come in. If we find a way to force this thing to cooperate, I'll post more info. Till then, beware. If anyone still wants a 2720, I may have one for sale at a good price.
  13. Is there any way to prevent GSAK from adding the quotation marks when exporting a CSV file? I just bought a new Garmin Street Pilot 2720, and it seems the only way to enter waypoints is through Garmin's uploader, and the uploader chokes on the quotes. A bit of advice: If anyone is thinking of purchasing a 2720 with an eye towards caching, my advice (so far, at least) is DON'T. My old Street Pilot III was a marvelous caching tool. It seems Garmin has done everything possible to inhibit any useful waypoint upload/mark/display capability. Perhaps I'll find a way to beat this thing at whatever game it's playing, but so far I'm not optimistic.
  14. The exact same setup with no configuration changes works fine with a Garmin eTrex Summit or Vista, but not with the SPIII. And it's the same setup that worked fine with the StreetPilot at revision 2.50. This is where I fake shock that Garmin changed the serial protocol in a minor firmware upgrade, right? Is there anything in the version notes that offers any hints? Treat this as a GPSBabel issue, not a GSAK one. To the GPSBabel-misc mailing list, send the full output of gpsbabel -D9 -i garmin -f COMx [ edit: original had upper case F which would be wrong] (where COMx is, of course, replaced by whatever your serial port is.) I can't say that I know of anyone else using a SP III with GPSBabel, so it'll be up to us to figure this out remotely or by having you send me a unit. Actually someone else is using SP III with Babel/GSAK. It makes a great "cache radar" when traveling. I don't know if you communicate with the authors of EasyGSP, but they've apparently solved the problem, intentionally or otherwise, with their latest release. The hot weather is upon Houston again. Doesn't that mean it's time for you to make another caching run on the area?
  15. The exact same setup with no configuration changes works fine with a Garmin eTrex Summit or Vista, but not with the SPIII. And it's the same setup that worked fine with the StreetPilot at revision 2.50. The same hardware setup and cable and StreetPilot works fine uploading or downloading waypoints using MapSource. My workaround is to export the caches from GSAK to MapSource, then to use MapSource to download the waypoints, but that's a minor pain for something that worked fine before. Any suggestions on what to try to get it working again? Jon We've encountered the same problem. The bad new is, Garmin does not maintain archival copies of software for use by their customers (shame on them ). The good new is the latest version of EasyGPS recognizes the 2.70 software in Street Pilot and will upload waypoints. The version of EasyGPS we had on the computer from pre-GSAK days would not work, but the upgrading to the latest version fixed it. Of course, you don't have all the features that make GSAK such a great utility, but it's better than nothing.

  17. We as travelers have enjoyed placing cache all over from Texas to Mass. and back. We always count the # of items we place in this cache and put them out so we can keep track of when their gone. Because we can;t always stay on site to maintain this is our way of sharing with other states the fun of geocaching. Like all other caches there is a risk of them being stolen or damaged but that the chance taken in any cache. We have set out many cache that have ben archived when they were completed and never had problems with people trying to log something they should't. I think this type of cache should be allowed by goecaching.com as long as the owners are in contact with that site. Maybe its time to develope temp cache sites they are very popular and great for diiferent holidays and seasons.
  18. We have found that many people don't know what to do with travel bugs. We have had several that were out out and moved a few times and stopped. We have been very discouraged in placing anymore. At meetings we have had this was a topic and also are recent meeting. They seemed to end up MIA. Point also metioned is some people think there trophys collect as many as you can. There sure don't help for encouragement in placing more.
  19. We are trying to get Geocaching plates from the staten of Texas for Geocaching. We need to get commitment for 600 people and they will make them. Anyone interested in this please log into www.houstoncachers.org and go to forum and post your request. While there brouse the Houston web page. A big Texas Thanks to all
  20. Our Pocket Queries have been intermittent lately and one, (the most important one in some ways) hasn't shown up for several days. We had one configured for locationless caches, and the query seemed to run fine until a week or so ago. Now it doesn't run at all. I've tried changing some of the parameters, but short of changing the whole nature of the query, it won't run. Of course it's hard to experiment too much since you can only run the query once a day. Any ideas (Jeremy?)?
  21. Try this one, it was placed in December of 2001 and no one has logged it yet. Noticed the log while visiting in the area, but it's out of our league. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=11690
  22. We'venoticed a number of posts with replys addressing how to change the background of a cache page, and that's all simple enough. I notice though that most people have uploaded the image to the Groundspeak server for use as the background as in this example: BACKGROUND="http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/21082_300.jpg" How do you get an image posted to the server without making it part of a cache log or something similar? ...or is that how it's done? Thanks. Team T.
  23. If you are going to buy the software anyway, it sounds like a good deal. I haven't seen anything, so far, substantially better.
  24. I trust you've noticed that you must also purchase the MapSend TOPO CD or a MapSend Streets & Destinations CD to qualify for the $50 rebate. I was doing some shopping the other day, and found several possibilities in the $285-290 including shipping range (w/o rebate).
  25. Just spent an hour figuring this out and thought I'd share it and possibly save others some time: If the ad-blocking feature of Zone Alarm Pro is set to "High" it will prevent the button that enables uploading pictures to your own cache page from appearing. It does not block the other buttons, or the buttons that allow uploading a photo to a logged cache. Wierd.
