  1. On the "My Pocket Query" page, to the left of the pocket query name, is an icon that looks like a map. That will allow you to preview your query in Google Maps.
  2. RATS! We will be staying at a cabin .61 miles (.97 miles driving distance) ...4 days AFTER the event. Well, if it's still there (yeah, Right!), we'll bring it back for you to use again next year. Here's hoping # 9 is going to be placed at Summit & Republican, on Capitol Hill in Seattle. (crossed fingers) Oops - meant to reply to the message for # 8, not 18! Blonde moment! I did mean 18 - wrote down the number wrong. Sigh.

  4. It took us a while to get here, but we finally made it to our 1000th Find today at "It's A Secret Park" on Mercer Island. Why this cache? Because we decided a long time ago that this milestone would have to be the first hide by someone with less than 50 finds. That's why. "It's not about the numbers, it's about the milestones."
  5. Where can I find these third party cables. These problems all sound similar to my explorist 400. Here is my thread: My explorist 400 has mysteriously stopped going into file transfer mode. I can still charge the battery via the usb cable but will not connect to my computer. I have turned it off and back on after a period of time, unplugged completly and plugged back in, drained the battery and recharged, reset to factory defaults, basically everything I can think of. Anyone else with an explorist experience a similar problem or just any other suggestions that I haven't thought of Try an online shop called Overdrive Electronics. They have a goog price on the cable, excellent customer service, and fast shipping. We like our eXplorist 210, but we have reached the conclusion that the cable is a serious design flaw. The cable has too many moving parts, when it really doesn't need any.
  6. We'll vote for the "broken cable" possibility. We have an eXplorist 210, and we have had to replace the cable twice. The first time the cable broke, it was obviously a broken tab that was somehow preventing it from making contact correctly. The second time, the cause was less clear - we just suddenly couldn't screw it on to the base.
  7. It's automatic. As soon as you post a "Found It" log on the cache page, it will increase your Found number.
  8. Upload your background image to the cache page, using the link in upper right corner of the page. Once the image has uploaded, click on it so all you see is the image. Highlight an copy the URL of the image from the navigation bar of your browser. Edit your cache listing - in the Background field, paste the URL of your image. We hope this helps.
  9. And ours. Welcome to geocaching! If you want to go geocaching sometime, drop us a line.
  10. We don't own one (yet) but we've been caching with friends who've used their TomToms for navigating to geocache coordinates.
  11. Our Seattle FTFs happened because of: Insomnia, the University Bridge going up and delaying OldBaldEagle, and insomnia.
  12. So far, this one has been muggle-proof: 1-976-DIAL-A-CACHE
  13. We do a lot of geocaching in urban areas. We've found a few caches by studying Google maps and knowing which side of the park, or which street corner, the cache is hidden, and then going out without our GPSr. It takes a lot of searching, but we've done it. Of course, with GPS reception blocked by tall buildings, maybe having the GPSr might not have helped much.
  14. Since it's listed separately in your trackables list, it should eventually get a custom icon. Sometimes it takes a while for Groundspeak to load the icon. Oh! Thanks for the information. We'd never seen that happen before. We'll keep an eye on it.
  15. Our coin arrived this weekend. Looks nice! We just activated it tonight. There's no custom icon.
  16. But, with no puzzle caches to work on, how will we get our geocaching fix when we're stuck behind a desk at work?
  17. There are several geocachers in our area (including us) who note the find number in our log. We also have a yellow notepad at home where we've listed all of our finds. Why? Just for fun.
  18. Welcome to geocaching! We think it's great that you're deciding on a GPSr that feels right to you, not one you feel you're "supposed" to get. We wish you lots of great fun in the future.
  19. Thanks for the info, everyone! Now we feel kinda foolish for buying that $20 adapter Oh well, live and learn!
  20. We think we've found the answer to this question, but we're just looking for a confirmation: We just bought an eXplorist 210 and several accessories for it, including a car cigarette lighter power adapter. At first, we thought we'd bought the wrong adapter because the package says it's for the eXplorist 300/400/500. However, the Magellan website says it's the right one: accessories page. Now, the problem is that we can't find any documentation, anywhere, that tells us what this adapter plugs into. There isn't a plug on the unit itself. So, does the cigarette lighter power adapter plug into the USB cable, which attaches to the unit? Thank you for any information you can provide.
  21. How about setting up a free email account at Yahoo! or gmail just for your geocaching account? Then you can visit your emails at your convenience, or do a bulk delete.
  22. There are three caches in the Seattle area that we know of (one is ours) that involve knowing a combination to open. None of those three have had problems with muggles, as far as we know. We won't be more specific about the caches, for fear of giving too much information. One is a puzzle - you have to figure out the combination from the cache description. One is set up like a multi - you find a micro, and the log sheet has information, and a combination, for finding a regular-sized, locked cache. With ours, the combination is listed in the cache description - the cache is a common object not typically used as a cache container, so it doesn't attract muggle curiosity.
  23. Here is an excellent example of a sudoku geocache. It is, in fact, this geocache that introduced us to sudoku puzzles. Seattle Sudoku
