  1. Oh thank you! I have followed your advice and entered the new coordinates as the actual cache coordinates and posted it with a note explaining what I have done
  2. Hi, So I have been having the old issue of a hide being rejected due to the proximity of hidden waypoints etc to caches that I can't see... It happened the first time, so I, rather stupidly, created a whole new cache page pretty far away from my original location, and submitted it to review, only to have the same thing happen - this time. I responded to the reviewer's "Temporary disable listing" note with a "Post Reviewer Note", where I said "Could you please tell me if these coordinates, xxxxxxxx/xxxxxxx, are suitable, before I make yet another page?". Is this an ok thing to do? Will the reviewer see it? It's only been 2 days since I posted it and I am sure they have lots to review, just making sure I'm not just shouting into the wind..! Thanks all
  3. Thanks for all thr replies guys!! So I can only delete them via the computer, fair enough. When I go into the relevant folder in windows explorer, you can only see the caches by their GC code. So you have to look them up to know what you're deleting. I don't suppose that can be changed..?
  4. Is that functionality something that's only available to premium members? I've only had it a week and how I currently use it is I just use the "send to my gps" button when viewing a cache on this site, then I go find it - then once found I'd like to delete it. Today I tried logging it as found on the device itself. Sure enough they disappeared from the list, though when I connected it to my pc, nothing happened, they didn't show as logged on the site, so maybe I'm not understanding that. When I log them as found on the gps, and they disappear, do they actually disappear so the space can be reused?
  5. I've seen a few conversation on this topic - Caches downloaded directly to the unit - how do you delete them from the unit itself? You can delete waypoints you've entered manually, but not Geocaches... can that be true..? :-/ Thank you!
  6. To make me feel worse, the next log after mine is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a DNF! But then one on the same day (today) found it, so my new hiding place can't be THAT hard! It's right by where it originally was... Not heard anything from the CO as yet, knowing my luck I did this on his first day of a 2 week holiday! PS thanks for the multitude of reassurances guys, really did help
  7. Hi guys Quick question... In my area when I do the map search there seem to be an awful lot of archived caches. Do these sit on the map forever? Or am I misunderstanding - is it the disabled ones that appear on the map a different colour? Thanks!
  8. Thanks... does sound a little complicated though for my small brain! However I have discovered that exiting the map and going into the Compass does pretty much what I wanted
  9. You know, I was actually feeling guilty enough to consider going to Currys or somewhere on the way home to see if they sold metal detectors... Thanks all of you for making me feel a little less bad about it.. I wasn't sure if I should log it as a "found" even though I did find it!
  10. Well today I broke my first cache :( It was a magnetic nano. I was trying to get the log out, when the magnet also fell out and into long grass. After half an hour searching in the grass I had to give up. What I did with the now non-magnetic cache was hide it (pretty well I think) in a place about half a metre from where it had been placed (i.e. as close as possible without leaving it visible). I then messaged the cache owner straight away to tell him in a grovelling tone and let him know where I'd hidden it so he could find and repair it. Needless to say I feel absolutely dreadful that I broke a cache - but what should I have done? Is there an "etiquette" for this sort of thing? Yours clumsily Mart
  11. Hi guys Getting the hang of my eTrex 10 but when you navigate to a waypoint it defaults to showing you the map view where it shows the diection but not the distance... Any idea how to get it to show both? Thank you!
  12. Thanks so much for all the replies guys! No, there are no young kids to be found in the area, no swings or slides. In fact I have been back there several times since my first post and it's been clear every time. And the football pitch is further from the cache site than I initially remembered. I'll give it a go! And I'll add the warning about Sunday mornings too Thanks again!
  13. Haha, I was about to reply "Oh well, fair enough, the search continues".. then read your last line. Well see that was my worry - the few times I have seen matches going on there, it's the typical sunday morning under-18s affair with the parents spectating. Having said that, today after work, at about 5.30pm, the whole place was deserted apart from a couple of joggers. I'll see if any other seasoned cachers have an opinion before taking any action, but thank you very much Sir for yours!
  14. Hi all We are looking to hide our second ever cache. Our first was down south where one half of us lives, and has had lovely comments about being in a very nice place. Now we want to hide one up North where the other half of us lives, in Manchester. The area in question is a public playing field, well that is, there are a few playing fields with some rough ground in between. Tha area is very popular with joggers and dog walkers and has an interesting history which is part of the reason for hiding there. The site I am thinking of is actually in direct view of a football pitch (though by no means on it), but I have only ever seen games played there at weekends - but that's obviously not guaranteed. Clearly stealth is required at quite a lot of cache sites in cities, so it's not that unusual, but do you guys think this sounds like an okay place? We take hiding quite seriously so would value your opinions thanks! Tara & Martin
