  1. Forgive my ignorance... but how do I go about "filtering" the poi's Would I open the downloaded mydata file with another application? (what application)? Maybe I can import it into Mapsource? I also just discovered an online tool that allows rremote reading/overlay without GE ??? Like I said - although not new to this (I've used GPS for years.. before it was popular), I've been out of the loop lately.... TIA UPDATE: Yep, I can open the file with mapsource and then I guess pick & chose which to add to my unit. Now, is there an easier way to filter thru 12 hundred waypoints to use what I want for just Phila & NJ ???
  2. Here's the d/l page: http://www.gps-data-team.com/gps-poi.php That help? I have to look at the Garmin POI Loader... I don't know whether I can create seperate folders? Can I? Do you need removable media to do so? My 60c dosen't
  3. Hi people, Its been awhile, but I know & trust where to come when I need answers. I came across a site which offers free poi files - (red light camera/speed trap) & even allows remote upload to my unit (60c). Now, I d/led Garmin's communicator which works just fine with Firefox (the only browser I trust) but my question is: I get a prompt saying "MyData.gpx already exists" and do I want to overwrite it? Well, naturally I didn't (saved to an alternate removable source) - - I'm wondering if this MyData file is my Garmin POI's ?? I surely don't want to overwrite, but merely add to my units data... Any help, experience, suggestions will be appreciated! As always, thanks in advance.
  4. I seem to remember that it WILL [eat more battery]. I have mine set to pretty much stay ON in the vehicles but time out on battery -
  5. haven't did it yet... Did you recently do a web/firmware update as well??
  6. Thanks Dan - A hard reset might do the trick?!? How do I go about that exactly? - I never had to
  7. I've had my60c for about 3 years now - no complaints. It goes from my Jeep to my Supercrew to the trail daily. I've noticed, in the last few days, that my backlight now seems intermittent?!?! Sometimes it works, sometimes not - lately more often not........ At 1st I checked my display settings, but nothing was changed? I sometimes adjust certain settings when out of a vehicle and on a trail or canoe. Now that I think of it.. (just as I type this), I DID do a web update Friday or Sat while looking for an old waypoint from a canoe trip last October!!! Could this be it? or is she simply going? Tell me people? the backlight is a major prioirity for me. All suggestions are appreciated! TIA
  8. Thanks guys... If its been out, why did I just get the notification this morning???
  9. I received my notice via email this morning... What do the vets think? I expected to see many threads on this when I logged in?!?! I have a 60CS w/7... worth my time & $ ?? Thanks in advance people.
  10. FYI - No need for a system restore. Simply UNINSTALL the newer GE, then RE-INSTALL with the PRIOR INSTALLER - works fine & I'm back to cross-viewing Mapsource/Google
  11. Yes, I admit to being the eerie one Although my reply was appropriate to the errie post I wanted to FOCUS on [the] Google/Mapsource [issue]. If its not too much trouble; Can you reach into your browser history and grab me the link to my specific concern thread [on the] GE support group ?
  12. So - you think its better to GO BACK to our previous version as this will likely NOT be fixed anytime soon?
  13. MAJOR BUMMER - I just (today) made a canoe trip with my son, loaded the TRACK into MapSource, viewed my paddling in Google Earth then noticed a update (Google Earth) was available I updated & when my son came back from a B-Day party I went to show him our track & NO GO - nada Suggestions????
  14. Can't speak for GSAK but I am having a problem doing the same from MapSource City Select V7 - MAJOR BUMMER - I just (today) made a canoe trip with my son, loaded the TRACK into MapSource, viewed my paddling in Google Earth then noticed a update (Google Earth) was available - I updated & when my son came back from a B-Day party I went to show him our track & NO GO - nada So I came here to see what the census was and I see this post What do we do now????
  15. I found another one - this one for 50.00 here: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ele/227432818.html
  16. I saw this while browsing my local CRAIGSLIST listings - Its a GPS V with MS CD, Manual & acces. - I have a V, which I used for years until upgrading to a 60c . . This isn't E-bay people, so its not a bidding war thing, just 1st come 1st served - they only want 120.00. (So my pointing fellow cachers to it WON'T increase the price) Its listed in Norristown, PA It looks like it was posted 3 hours ago - so I doubt it will last long PLEASE Let me know how it works out LINK: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ele/227237694.html *edited to include posting time
  17. I live in south jersey & have just taken my caching partner (8 year old son) canoeing for [his] the 1st time. I would love to canoe cache! Can anyone direct me to a list and/or link to these caches? Much appreciated!
  18. OK, this is getting there, now I just need to know if there is a way to get it into something more "transportable" for when I am mobile. >>>is a way to get it into something more "transportable" <<< If you have a laptop & Google Earth, you're set!
  19. For what its worth; my recent locks (60c) are: 01 03 20 23 25 31 51 (19 blinking) ALL "D's" w/ 6 ft accuracy - This is w/o a reset & only the recent update - How is that?
  20. Hold down ENTER and PAGE while powering up. I did the reset and it worked for me using my 60CS. Then don't I have to COVER the atenna for a bit or something?? Thanks
  21. I think the original question of my thread was lost somewhere? What are the steps for the reset & should I perform them? Thanks, in advance......
  22. Thanks Paul - Yea, I checked - the 410 I updated (via webUpdater) with is the latest - unless I missed somethin' I'm still waiting for suggestions people!
  23. This 3-minute process reset the receiver, and the GPS unit immediately picked up satellite 51, with "D's" appearing on the other signal bars. I wrote Red90 directly and let him know how much I appreciated this tip. But I'd also like to express my gratitude to all those in this Forum who take time away from their "hunting and hiding" activties to help others with advice and information. This is a great group! Best regards, -Paul- Paul, Are you sure this would apply to [60c] me?? This didn't come up when I used the webdater?!?! (I always d/l the latest anyway) - - This "GPS Chipset Type G software version 2.70 as of July 19, 2006" would: • take the place of procedures described elsewhere here? • And / Or simply make it easier? If this is an app that runs & adjusts/updates my unit itself, it would certainly seem simplier
  24. Forgive me people, I just picked up a new laptop (switched from MAC to Pc AFTER A DECADE), so aside from a new toy, I now am acquiring software & enjoying my GPS twice as much, So.. I haven't been here browsing as I should. I read the long thread about the new sats, their test times & that they're live as of last week. Simply put, do I need to reset/upgrade my 60c ? I am updated to 410 via the garmin site - is there another up/firmware I need? And finally, I have to do a almanac reset? Aside from backing everything up 1st, what is the safest, simple, step by step procedure I need to do to [now] get the best performance - in lieu of the new hardware up above? I'm on the East coast - philly/jersey area. As always, thanks in advance!
