  1. Been there done that, but you won't find my name against any caches, I used my own account and when I finished up I asked for the reviewer status to be removed and return my account to a general user account. This was back in 2003 thereabout. A lot of work and effort, and a thick skin is required.
  2. Thanks, I don't normally use this function, but it is handy to know...
  3. A friend just contacted me about the post code search engine on geocaching.com, when she put in a postcode it was taking her to caches in the US. I just tried with a few postcodes that I have used over the years that I know were valid on gc.com, and I am getting the same. Anyone else?
  4. The date is set from the server in the States,(Washington time I think?) so It is generally 15-17hrs behind us. So when you logged your find at your friends place, the server in the States may have clocked over midnight and was now the "same day" as Aus. Timezones are your friends.....
  5. And where were was America when we needed help with bushfires? We HIRED the aircraft from the STATES... but we sent over volunteers to help in the California fires a few years ago.... This Tsunami was more devastating than another natural event that I havebeen witness to, I can't see the harm in allowing the cache in question to stand, and yes I did claim a find, but I have now changed that to a "Did Not Find" to appease the Politically Correct people who frequent this forum(and tp prove that the game is not about the smiley but about the find, no matter what it is for...) But after finding out that there was such a cache before hand that WAS sanctioned by the same people who now cry foul of the Tsuami cache, I have to wonder at the double standards being displayed. And as for the Hurricanes of Forida... If help had been requested no doubt we would have responded... as we have done so many times of late.. two "world events" in particular stand out. I have just made all of my current caches inactive until I decide what further action I should take, I do this as a protest for the archiving of the Tsunami Appeal Cache
  6. It might be early morning to you, but it was late Sunday afternoon, "what the heck is J and the QOFE up to now..... But I will say, whatever you have done of late - please keep it up
  7. Having been a visitor to a small area of your wonderful country, Cold Lake Alberta, these stories bring back some good memories, and you have same "fondness" for the seppos as us Aussies....... Can someone send me a carepackage of Tim Horton's Coffee and Timbits please? That place was the best!!!!! loved the Chillie in the breadroll meal. And for those of you going to visit Australia at any stage, watch out for Dropbears.... the feral cousin of the cuddley Koala, This beast has a mean habit of dropping out of the gumtrees onto unsuspecting overseas tourists, strangley enough Yank and Japanese ones. The driver stories are similar to Aussie ones, I married a UK girl and when her Uncle came out to Australia to visit, he wanted to visit us in QLD right up north at Townsville, he was in Sydney, he was guessing that it was only a daytrip, I just laughed and told him to get on a airplane and fly up, and that still took 4hrs, to drive nup you need three to four days. If any of you decide to spend your loonies and toonies on airfare to the Great Southern Land let's us know, I promise not to call you "Yanks" Swampgecko MapleFlag2001
  8. Being a retired reviewer(Australian Reviewer) I know how hard those reviewer folk work at keeping the site and the caches ticking over, They do have lives other than geocaching.com, and on the whole it can be a pretty thankless job, you cop a lot of abuse at times for your actions or decisions about cache submissions. I generally was able to punch out reviewed caches within a 24hr period from time of submission, on the odd occasion I was able to surprize the cache-owner by listing their cache within 5 minutes of submission,as long as there were no problems of course, I have a pretty extensive map collection for Australia. On the other hand there were times when work or family commitments just would not allow me the time to review, so it might take up to a week to sift through the list and get the "good submissions" up on the site and work with the cache owners of the"dodgey caches" to get them through the review process. Having spoken with the rest of the reviewers about the process and their "working lists" of caches, my load was quite light, I averaged 4 caches a day, the most I had reviewed in one day was 21, will all but 5 of those getting on to the site the same day, one was archived a "lame virtual" the rest needed just some form of verification for safety or placement reasons. The US reviewers in particular can have on average 30 "new" caches to be reviewed a day, thats NOT including their "working" list of caches, that may have a problem to be resolved before being listed. Also when a reviewer has to take some "time off" they normally ask if there is another reviewer avaible to take over their area for that time, so that can slow things down too. And reviewers don't like being called "approvers" , we review the caches for their suitability for being listed on the geocaching.com website, and if they do then they are listed. They also review the cache lists for their areas of operations, just to ensure that all is well and there are not too many inactive caches on the books. My reasons for stopping? Well family and work should come first, and work has made more demands of my time. I enjoyed my time as a reviewer, abuse and all, maybe at a later stage I might be able to do it again, and to my friends the reviewers, You all do a wonderful job and I for one greatly appreciate it. 10. As a reviewer for geocaching.com I only come here out of need, I go to where the volume of my "customers" are, which is the Local Aussie Forums as listed in the link supplied by Leek. Ideally yes one place would be the preferred option, but since our geocaching scene varies in a number of significant areas to the rest of the world, it is better to air our "dirty laundry" in a more private forum. And anyway I do know from the other reviewers worldwide, that there are many local forums out there that run independantly of this site. Should they also just belong to one forum? I know of aussies that frequent this forum and the other parts of it and don't visit the "local aussie forums", that is their choice. We have two local aussie forums, one is on Yahoo and that has an even lower volume of traffic than here. People will go where they feel comfortable.
  11. Jeremy and Crew, Nice work, Geocaches (mine), I like it, thanks for the rapid response. Swampgecko
  12. You insult us then expect us to do an interview? Do you know why Irwin married a yank woman? No Aussie woman was dumb enough to.... (my apologies to the U.S. ladies) But on a serious note I'll post your requests in the local aussie forums.
  13. Honestly I did prefer the old page... Takes too long now to see what has been happening with my caches, where as before I could tell at a glance. Can it be set up so that we can pick which "my page" we can have as a default? Maybe as part of the account details? Or please place a tab on the page to take me to my cache list? This is IMHO the most important piece of information that I require access to.
  14. I'll post a request in the local Aussie forums for you.
  15. I will relay your request to the local Aussie forums. But geocachers are a bit thin on the ground in Far North Queensland.
  16. As I pointed out in the "local" forums not all Aussies read this forum and not all aussies read the "local" forums.
  17. I'll post a link for you in our local aussie forums as well... might get a better response that way... I would do it but I am too far out of Sydney to just duck in for that one reason.
  18. Mate I don't like your chances of a quick rescue... that is in the neither regions of geocaching for New South Wales. Your best hope is for a passing traveller to pick it up. I'll help you a little and repost this thread in the local aussie forums.
  19. Dru's Nuts are fine, I have physically checked them out. This was all handed in the aussie based forums and via email. No trolls were harmed in the movement of this tb.
  20. I have in my possesion Dru's Nuts, and He would like them back. What I am looking for is anyone travelling to the States soon who might be in the position to drop Dru's Nuts off, preferably in California. If anyone can help me out please contact me via here Swampy
  21. An interesting thread, and quite a funny post there Criminal, I now feel like I have known Travis for all my caching life. but for the topic's sake, I use DNF's as a to-do list. I have one on my log list that dates back to the first month I was geocaching nearly 2 yrs ago. and having it sit there is now spurring me on to have another go at the cache. This would have happened sooner but work is the curse of the Geocaching Class... now what do I do with my DNF's? well I convert them to a find, but I leave all the previous details and dates in there so that the people can still access it all. But I also leave DNF's there on a as required basis. It really depends on how I see the DNF fitting into the overall picture for the cache.
  22. This looks like a good place to bring this little problem up..... I changed my email address the other day for geocaching.com(hense forth "main site").. and I followed the instructions and did the confirmation bit. That all went fine but now from my watch list I get two notification emails, one to my old email address and one to my new email address... or will it just take time to change? And as I am about to close the old email address down I don't want a bounce going back and then having my main site account being closed or my status there being changed to inactive or unconfirmed.... Secondly I want to change my email address for this forum,as it still displays my old email address So, once again it will take time for the changes to filter through from the main site?
  23. Biggest Cache Container found? The biggest I have found here in Aussie was a blue tub big enough to hold coffee table books... But the largest I have placed was a metal drum that i had floating around, that is a Garmin 12 beside the cache and here it is in use You can read all about the cache heresanD on Track
  24. You could go to the Sundial at North Richmond, in Hanna Park as it has a bench mark set in it.... but remember I have already logged it for the sundial Locationless cache
