  1. You did not say which Android app you are using! Give Locus maps a try. Its a steep learning curve but worth it. Make sure that you get some vector maps for off line use.
  2. I am not sure that your log length is the issue we should be discussing. But you inappropriate choice of foot wear!
  3. Sorry little misunderstanding, my bad. I meant create the cache description using an app' like GSAK. I don't belive you can download the GPX file until a cache has been published on geocaching.com
  4. If you click on the other attendees names next to their "Will Attend" log, it will take you to their profile. From here chose "Gallery" and you will find pictures. So you have an idea who to look for.
  5. http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ Have free worldwide maps based on open street maps.
  6. WoW it's amazing how quickly people jump in with a negative response. You never asked to publish them! Of course you can do it. Another option to look at is GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) (Assuming you are using Windows). This should allow you to create your own GPX files to download to GPS's and is support by most Android Apps.

  9. Think very carefully about the container and maintenance. A little time and extra money spent now on the container will save on maintenance. Don't rush it and make your first hide a good one.
  10. Locus maps, loaded up with caches via PQ's. And vector maps, or pre downloaded tiles from online maps. Functional this will put any GPSr to shame. It just the ruggedness and battery life of the tablet that let it down.
  11. There is an old saying "Don't put all your trackables in one cache", it's often miss quoted by muggles as "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". So as others have said keep the inventory small, but keep it topped up. So there is a TB for every visitor. We get very positive comments on our largest cache, well worth the little extra effort.
  12. We also use a Nexus 7 for Geocaching. Mainly for OS maps, and choosing which caches to go for. When on the trail we use an Etrex30. As others have said tablets are large and more fragile than GPSr's. I also use the Nexus with a GPS averaging app to hide caches, as I have found it more consistent and accurate than the Etrex.
  13. Logs not Blogs!! Sorry bit of a rant, but it is on subject, sort of! Does anyone else hate it when you get a log on one of your caches, which is just a link promoting a blog. Please, Please, post a nice log. Then you can feel free to add your blog address. But not just your blog address. Sorry, I feel better now.
  14. To me CITO is about giving back to the environment that we cache in. I have only done one, but that was coppicing willow.
  15. Don't rush into hiding caches. This was the best advice I was given when I started geocaching. I did not appreciate it then, I do now. As well as the location, consider very carefully the container and maintenance. Film pots and bison tubes will get wet. A few pounds extra on a genuine Lock'n'lock will save 10x its cost in fuel. A nice but quiet footpath in the country will provide less hassle than a nano in a city. Sorry back on topic. I recommend GPS Averaging take at least 50 measurements. And you should have a great set of co-ords. I now use this on my Nexus 7 in preference to our Etrex30, but that’s another story.
  16. http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm If you are in the UK.
  17. Our Mile Stone series; Daventry Mile Stone #1 Daventry Mile Stone #2 The lost Mile Stone (Multi cache based on #1 and #2)
  18. I have one that is heading for the International Space Station. But I guess there are plenty of others with that goal.
  19. That is the best bit about contributing to OSM, seeing your new footpaths. I have taken to rendering my own so that I don't have to wait for Martin's updates.
  20. There is, its called "needs Archive" this brings the cache to the reviewers attention. Put your concerns in the log. In the UK there is a rule that no caches are hidden in Dry stone walls to prevent this type of damage.
  21. Which shows that they are aware of our feelings.
  22. Ouch! Premium membership in the UK has just increased from $29.99 to $38.21 per year, which is a 27% increase!! I realise that this now fixes the cost, and removes hidden currency charges. But at a very high `Premium`.
  23. Also many people will read the description via App's so at best the formatting is lost, at worst it can make it unreadable. So stick with simple black on white in default fonts.
  24. This sounds the best suggestion to me, when looking for a cache I never look at the attributes (They don't show on our GPS) and tend to read the clue before the cache listing while at GZ. If dropping a trackable I will look see if there are trackables listed that are no present. If this is the case I will find another cache to drop the trackable in.
