One of our most memorable swag items was a battery. We found it in a cache that was in like a weird cookie tin with kittens on it. The battery was memorable because it was the exact battery that we needed for our garage door opener - kind of like a short AA. We traded for it, and got many years use out of it. And it came out of a remote, rarely found cache with a ridiculous container. Don't you hate it when you replace yer watch battery every three years and they only sell yer size battery in packs of two?

Whaaaa? Is this the new excuse for everything in high school?

Although it was posted in 2008, I still find it a bit offensive. We travel full-time so can't maintain any hides. Our karma is achieved by leaving the caches we find in better condition. That means a new log if we have one with us or dumping out the dirt or removing trash from the area. From time to time we post pictures of the logs for the CO to peruse.

Pffffft! And what a perfectly sized branch on that log!

My watch has a little box with the date in it where the number four should be. It is so small I haven't been able to see it since I turned 40-something. I put the "calendar" icon on the face page of my GPS. Since retiring it requires a bit of thinking before I can guess the date. After reading this topic, I don't think I'll worry about recording the date so much anymore.

The CO seems passive-aggressive by not telling you which one out of three answers is wrong. Not offering a suggestion/hint or to 'teach' you, s/he sounds like a bitter old school marm IMHO. Do nothing. If they delete the smiley, my suspicions are confirmed.

No good deed goes unpunished...sorry for your troubles.

If you can't praise a cache to high heaven. . .

Thanx for today's chuckle! -
Well, I guess its unanimous then: Garmins never fail. What was I thinking.

Really? After 834 finds! I've had two green ones, a silver one, a yellow one and my current Oregon 550t. The stick wore out on the first one, before paperless (entering all coords by hand), the second would shut off every time it was moved. I don't remember how the others went bad, but my current expensive is starting to flake out with about 1/4" of the screen blank. I'd be more apt to take your advice after 10,000 or so smileys so... what was the LEAST accurate you have used???

My experience has been that after about a year of moderate geocaching, any dollar level of Garmin is going to conk out. Don't pay for extras you're not thrilled about.

Which date can you use to log a challenge cache
tallglenn replied to camillabacher's topic in General geocaching topics
I recently went back and corrected some of my challenge cache dates to when I had physically found them. My decision was obvious when I qualified for a cache I had visited in Alabama while I was in New Mexico. My found log looked like I had flown to Alabama for the day to get one cache. -
Bike caching - Some Observations
tallglenn replied to Dread_Pirate_Bruce's topic in General geocaching topics
I never considered every-other-one on an out and back trail - good idea. My thinking was that if I DNFd one (or more) on the way out, I might find it if I look again on the way back. -
Are some of the caches listed under "waypoints"?

Several times while geocaching I've caught a whiff of a bad odor. Hoping not to find a body, I develop tunnel vision and get out of there as quickly as possible. I've found plenty of dead squirrels - they make a little stink for a little while; an overwhelming, permeating "big" smell quickens my step...

Geocaching. Is it really hiking with a purpose?

Geocaching is anything with a purpose! -
The event calendar is truly horrific to use. I'm assuming it is on GS list of things to fix?

I don't see any ads

Several years ago I logged a cache belonging to a paranoid owner I had never met that I had bent over, or looked down, or kneeled down or something (I dunno, the log has vanished). He asked me to edit that part out. I changed the log to "." Nothing left for him to worry about or edit! No wonder there are so many "TFTC"s when owners want to censor every find.

Pause on New Challenge Caches

Oops, double post. There are lots of threads discussing these issues ad nauseum. Basically we all play our own game. If it seems like the right thing to do, do it. Consider each "throwdown" on a case-by-case basis. Do you know the owner? In the quite obvious case you mentioned, I would've replaced the film can.

Randomly ran across another "mistake" by the same "big numbers" cacher. Is this how we rack them up??? This time it was a DNF and a "Found" on a cache that was archived the same day. Found it 3/22/2015 By 90K+ "finds" Visiting from X. Enjoyed the hunt. SL. Thanks! Follow my adventures on Facebook! Didn't find it 3/22/2015 By 90K+ "finds" Visiting from X. No joy here. I just happen to know who you are talking about, and he has no finds logged on the dates you have listed, could have been a mistake. We must be thinking of two different people...

CacheReqs Game - Goal-oriented caching
tallglenn replied to GeoJono's topic in General geocaching topics
I just cut & pasted your example above and it looks really fun. I'm going to do it! It makes Geocaching so much more fun. I don't remember having to download anything or run a file for the Quests. Cut & paste works just fine, everybody knows how to do it, and it works for any gadget. Maybe you could post your lists on a free website - even a free photo site would work. Kinda limits what you want to do with them though. Thanx for the list and best of luck!
