  1. Howdy, I'm trying to load up the software from Garmin and it is asking for either an 8 or 25 digit unlock code. I' can't find them anywhere. Any clues where they are and/or what I'm doing wrong? The s/n: on the back of the case is a 9 digit number and begins with an alpha letter bringing the total characters up to 10. Thanks, Bill
  2. That's what I'm looking for but haven't found any for sale in the searches I've performed. Any ideas who carries this map?
  3. I've been looking for the Garmion Roads and Recreation map but unable to find them in stock anywhere. Are they just out of stock or has this map been discontinued? If discontinued what map replaces it? Thanks
  4. What is the difference between the MapSource City Navigator NT North America V8 and the MapSource City Navigator North America V8. If my unit will accept the NT version should I purchase that one? Thanks
  5. That's what I think although I've only been able to handle the units it in a store as I still haven't purchased one yet. But it is down to the 60 or 76 and I think the 76 is winning. all things being equal the price drop may be the push over the fence I needed.
  6. Since many people are going to spring for a 1 or 2 mg card anyway, the extra memory isn't a factor. So unless you're intending to use this for marine purposes, the question become, why wouldn't you buy the more compact, easier to hold model? Excellent point and unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to hold either one of these units. The 76 shows to be a little more than a 1/4" wider (2.7" - 2.4") than the 60, a 1/10" taller (6.2 - 6.1), a 1/10" deeper (1.4 - 1.3), and finally 1/10 oz heavier (7.6oz - 7.5oz). Anyway, with these specs being so close compactness didn't seem to be an issue however the 60 being easier to hold could be a factor. Another decision to ponder.
  7. wrz0170 or anyone reading this, if the 60csx can be had for $363 and the 76CSx goes for 366 why wouldn't you spring for the additional $3 and purchase the 76CSx? They both appear to be about the same except the 76CSx is a tad larger, more memory, and it floats (not that I would intentially test this claim). What am I missing as I approach the point of no return and hit the Purchase button?
  8. I've been searching for a 76CSx also and found many of the prices were right at $449.99 (real close to $450) but there were some for about $100 less. Do you suppose the units that are about $100 less expensive are factory reconditioned or is there something else to consider?
  9. benjamin921, So you are saying that if we purchase a Garmin, like the 76CSx we must use the Garmin MapSource Topo maps and not be able to use Maptech's Terrain Navigator Pro?
  10. Thank you all for the outstanding suggestions you have taken the time to type out and help me make the decision for the department. Now we are at a point where I need to read about and decide what software to use for this project. Currently I'm looking at the MapTech Terrain Navigator Pro or the MapSource Topo. 11. Howdy, I'm with a S&R team and have been tasked with making the recommendation for GPS units to be used on an S&R mission. There is a section of the Cumberland Trail recently opened that travels across our jurisdiction and in this section of trail there are many hazards in which we believe hikers will get themselves in trouble. Out intended use for these units will be to transfer waypoint information of the trail and have this information stored in a laptop. Then when we are at an incident the Incident Commander will have an opportunity to view where we are on the trial and develop the easiest way to extricate the patient. So far we have been looking at the Rino 530 and the 76CSx. Of these two units which would provide us the best support for out intended use and are there others we should consider. For the most part there is a heavy canopy so we are more interested in units that can deal with this sort of terrain. I'm new to this type of technology and so any help or information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all, Bill Sale Creek Fire & Rescue
